Tired of playing the same old openings? Worried about having to learn too much theory? Then these books are what you're looking for! All-new and attacking opening repertoires based on the moves 1 d4 and 1e4 are provided. Concentrating on constructing easy-to-learn systems against all of Black's possible defences, lines are chosen which are fun to play, easy to learn and will pose your unsuspecting opponent lots of problems.
The best chess book I have ever read - albeit one which only deals with a specific area of the game. I purchased this at a tournament in Portsmouth, and over the following weeks was able to study and incorporate what I had learned into my (admittedly club-level) game. The key benefits are that it is a well-written and well-researched book which enables the player (opening as white) to memorise and adapt through transposition a range of lesser-known alternatives to give themselves an advantage over their opponant. Even a decade later, I am still using what I learned from this book most days in online chess (despite having not actually looked at the book for five years!). The best few quid I ever spent on chess!
It's only a shame that the companion books ('1 d4' and the associated black responses) were much less influential, and hence disappointed.
