I liked the story. It was exciting, but there were confusing aspects to it. Initially, I assumed that this story was picking up after the end of the original P&P, although having Darcy and Elizabeth wait six months to marry was strange. But while reading, I realized that the story didn’t seem to be a true sequel of P&P.

I liked the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. I liked how Elizabeth handled her situation.

Some confusing elements:

What happened to Bingley’s house in London? Why are the Bingleys staying with the Gardiners?

How can an author who has written at least twenty P&P variations not know that Meryton is half a day’s travel from London? Instead, the story talks about “two long, hard days of travel” between London and Hertfordshire.

What, exactly, is the timing of this story? ODC have been engaged for six months. The Bingleys are already married. It claims to be autumn, but at one point there is light snow covering the ground. That’s a stretch. Then the epilogue is “a year on” and it’s late spring.

Lady Matlock reflects that “she had never told a soul in sixty years” about something concerning her marriage at age 19. There’s no way she is 79 years old. And where was the viscount? He is completely absent from the story.

Why did the Bingleys marry months ahead of ODC? Did Elizabeth visit Pemberley with the Gardiners? Are we to assume that the Lydia/Wickham marriage never happened? A search of the text reveals neither Lydia nor Wickham is ever mentioned.

There were so many questions that kept taking me out of this otherwise engaging story.

Read through KU.

I feel bad for Anne. And I can't help wondering why nobody tried to help her before.

Gothic goodness

A very darkly brooding and gothic toned variation inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by April Floyd. I liked it.

ohhh this story had me locked in

Clean, suitable all ages non regency syntax. Possible Triggers: ANGST. Like slow burn & bam it’s a rollercoaster angst after unexplained disappearance of a loved one, truly sneaky ninja deviltry, loss of physical health, mental cruelty; perhaps consider reading in stages if u suffer PTSD triggered by any of the above (i chewed my nails ugh). PLOT: Elizabeth Bennet disappears on what up to then was happiest day of her life after falling in love with Fitzwilliam Darcy. Not one person saw nor heard anything when it’s discovered Lizzy has disappeared from a dressing room as she had her final fitting on her wedding dress. Strangely enough several ppl including her beloved Aunt Gardiner were with her & poof….in the following days NO ransom note, NO proof of life, NO taunting messages. Complete & mind boggling silence…truly a haunting tale & i read it straight thru. Main characters are basically written as in canon except Darcy is more …Darcy. Fervent in his devotion to his loved ones, honor bound esp by duty, handsome, wealthy, taciturn & totally in love w/Elizabeth. His suffering after her mysterious disappearance was gut wrenching & w/o relief. Oh! Lady Matlock is the mother wish all the Bennet daughters had been blessed with & glad she was there for Darcy and Georgiana. Lady M is seen mostly in the background, as she holds the families together while the search for Lizzy ensues….No spoilers, but adamantly say the bad guys are probably the creepiest bad guys encountered in all the bazillion JAFF books ive enjoyed & no comeuppance = what happened to ODC. So. Hope author takes that into consideration if ever she rewrites (im bloodthirsty aren’t i *eeek* ;-) Already on my TBRA list and enjoyed every angst filled moment. Def recommend.

Very Interesting

I found the story very interesting. The plot was moving, emotional and intriguing. I loved Darcy in this story. He was everything kind and loving and I loved Elizabeth’s strength. Lady Matlock had a wonderful role and strength without false pride.
It was very entertaining and I highly recommend it.

Could not put it down!

A beautifully written chronicle of love, hate, determination, faith, and character as we follow a villainous plan to keep Elizabeth from marrying Darcy. The best work I have read from this author.

Finding Lizzy

Oooh, what a great mystery! Loved the sneaky deviousness and devoted searching all wrapped up in a family disagreement. It was satisfying to see strong belief and dedication win in the end.

Good Read

We all knew this is what Lady Catherine wanted to do..... So April Floyd wrote it.

Really enjoyed the main characters here. Lady Matlock was my favorite.
