Olive & Myrrh: Book Two of the Heartland Fae Series

Rate this book
Violet’s last relationship was…complicated. So, she was quite surprised to learn that
Rafa, her vampire ex-boyfriend, had a will naming her as a sole beneficiary of his assets- including a historical property in Maine. Eager to put several states between herself and her sisters, she moves to Folly--just in time for the annual holiday festival.

As the halls are decked and snow starts to fall, Violet feels anything but festive. In her isolation, she unpacks decades of grief and regret, until she is ultimately forced to leave her cozy abode and walk into town, where she finds a family of kitchen witches. Cup by enchanted cup of coffee, she feels herself returning to life.

That life was rudely interrupted when a fisherman was found dead on her property. The sleepy coastal town is immediately consumed by a murder investigation, complicated by the fact (unbeknownst to the police) that the fisherman wasn’t exactly human. Can the creatures of Folly solve the murder case and protect themselves from discovery? Or will the police—with the help of the charming Detective Mattingly-- uncover Folly’s (and Violet’s) secrets?

Olive & Myrrh was such a fun fantasy romance! I really enjoyed the mix of fairy and vampire elements and the way the story brings together characters who really shouldn’t be together.

The chosen-family aspect was one of the things that stood out to me, and I loved the forced proximity and forbidden romance mixed into the fantasy world. There was something really fun about watching these characters navigate everything being thrown at them while figuring out where they belong.

If you enjoy fantasy romance with found family, forbidden relationships, and supernatural characters, definitely add this one to your TBR!

Thank you to the author/PR for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The sequel to Lemon and Thyme (second book but stands alone) shares the story of the violent love affair between Violet and Rafa. This book is like a warm cup of coffee on a cold wintry day. It’s set in a charming coastal town in Maine with a community of secret magical beings. Violet melts right into fantastical friendships as she immerses herself in the holiday festivities through a local “witch” restaurant selling soups and pies to seasonal tourists. When a murdered siren ends up on the sea rocks under Violet’s lighthouse, the community of magical beings has to work together to solve the mystery before the hot cop can frame Violet. I loved Violets fiestiness and finally getting the heartbreaking tragedy of her and Rafa from 50 years ago. Magic, murder, smut, and lingering thoughts of famous clam chowder and sugar cream pies will leave you with a warm tingling in your heart.

I love a good found family story, and Olive & Myrrh delivered! Add in a mix of vampires, fairies, and romance, and you've got my attention!

Vi's emotional turmoil and grief at the beginning? Whew! 🥺 You could practically feel it jumping off the pages. Her pain was palpable, and it made me connect with her character early on.

Overall, this was a fun, engaging fantasy romance with a little magic, a lot of heart, and a found family element that I absolutely loved!

Thank you to Flying Pig PR & Paige Darling for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.

Book One pulled me into a realm full of creatures and romance and action. Book Two took me to a cozy corner of that world and made me relax. This series is wonderful for anyone interested in mythical creatures and how they could relate to our modern society, but also exemplifies a lesson on the acceptance of others and their differences. I highly recommend this series and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
