The Legend of Bear Bryant by Mickey Herskowitz (McGraw-Hill 1987)(Biography). Mickey Herskowitz is a Houston Chronicle sportswriter who unabashedly professes that he stands in awe of the accomplishments of Paul “Bear” Bryant. Bryant set the highest of standards for success as a college football coach by winning everywhere he was hired: at Kentucky, at Texas A&M, and at Alabama. When he retired, he had the record for most wins by a Division 1 (big time university) college football coach. He is still immortalized thirty years after his death in 1983 – one month after he retired from coaching. My rating: 7/10, finished 2006.
