Book #1 in Samantha Chase’s popular Montgomery series

There’s no time like the present…unless you’re still running from your past

Executive assistant Emma Taylor is desperate for a little time away; away from her job, her life and from thoughts of her boss’s son who doesn’t seem to know she even exists. Tired of waiting for the time to be right, she takes advantage of her boss’s generous offer for a little weekend getaway to thank her for helping out with a difficult business deal.

Former NFL superstar Lucas Montgomery is still suffering from a career-ending injury. His self-imposed exile from life is exactly what he wants; a sanctuary where there’s no chance for disappointment or distractions and that’s exactly the way he likes it. While his family has been patiently waiting for Lucas to come around and embrace life once again, they don’t realize that it wasn’t just his career that was lost, but his sense of identity.

Lucas thought everything was fine until sweet, sexy and completely off-limits Emma Taylor comes crashing into his carefully constructed world one snowy weekend and turns his entire life upside down.

I hate to say it, but this story did nothing for me. I didn't like the storyline, I didn't like the characters and the sex scenes were fade to black. I found the lead heroine (Emma) a tad annoying and the main Hero's (Lucas) issues were something that a 16 year old boy would throw a fit about, not a grown-ass man. The ending seemed rushed and I just simply did not feel the connection between the characters. The story had potential, but unfortunately fell flat.

Alright, I'll admit it.. I'm a review scanner! Before I read a book...even if I know I'm going to read it anyways...I scan reviews to get a general idea for how people rate it. I was given a signed copy of Wait for Me at a Authors in the City and was super excited to start reading.

Wait for Me was my first Samantha Chase book and when it was handed over I honestly had no idea what to expect....so I hit the Goodreads reviews! Much to my surprise...

well, the reviews overall weren't good. People complained about the "played out story line" the "whiney characters" and so much more....I was honestly scared to start reading for a bit...I mean I was excited and had already agreed to a review. ..and I really hate having to do bad reviews :/

Luckily for me...I must have read a different story lol I honestly cannot figure out how anyone would give to Wait for Me a 2 star review!

So what if there are a ton of books that have a rich gather figure pushing for his kids to marry...yep it's been done before...but honestly as I read this book I never once compared it to the ones I've read in the past. The way Samantha twists the story and the way that the romance flows totally blew me away. I loved it!

Well yes...Lucas was a bit whiney and Emma a bit stiff at times...so what?? They are both BEAUTIFULLY developed and written characters! I was so very attached to them that I found myself yelling at Lucas when he did something stupid...or crying with Emma when she over reacted to something. I also giggled and sighed and begged for more...don't judge! lol

One reviewer gave a bad review based on the closed door sex scenes?!? Really?

Come on people...it's a SWEET ROMANCE! There are plenty of books out there that have sex scenes so explicit...so detailed that I cringe and blush as I read them! I found the fade to black and left to my imagination sex scenes a welcome relief from the flood of rather erotic books that have fallen into my review shelf lately.

Overall, while I couldn't give it 5 stars...it is a solid 4.5 (If we did halves lol) that I abso-freaking-lutely recommend you read!

Now, while I'm over here starting Trust in Me (book 2 in the Montgomery Brothers series) why not head on over to Amazon and check this one out for yourself!

Favorite Quote:

Darlin’, if all you need me around for is to make French toast, then I’ve got to step up my game.

My Review:

A career-ending injury didn’t just mess up Lucas’s knee; it messed up his head, robbed him of self-confidence and wiped out his identity. And as a result, he became a crabby hypersensitive and depressed hermit. His family allowed him two years as a recluse before their well-meaning but presumptuous ways got the better of them, and once it started, they couldn’t seem to stop. The storyline was entertaining and moved at a comfortable pace with heavy portions of angst and conflict and bits of steam and meddlesome family plotting before reaching that sweet HEA.

William Montgomery is worried about his youngest son. Lucas injured his knee two years ago which ended his professional football career. He has since become a recluse, venturing out of his mountain home only once per month to come into the family business offices in the city. William devises a plan where he calls his executive assistant, Emma Taylor, and asks her to bring some paperwork to his vacation home. William gives her his son's address knowing Emma has a crush on Lucas. Emma hurries to the mountain home, but is injured when a snowstorm pops up and she drives off the road hitting a tree upon arrival. Lucas can't figure out why his father's assistant is at his house. He helps Emma into the house and learns that his father gave her the wrong address. Now Lucas is stuck with Emma at his house during a snowstorm when all he wants is to be alone.

I thought this would be a nice light contemporary romance to listen to while on my morning walk. Well, Lucas and Emma bickered continually which got old fast. Williams manipulation was obvious, but neither of them figured it out. And I really didn't like the characters, especially Lucas who sat around feeling sorry for himself. The worst part of the experience for me was the narrator. His voice had an odd stilted quality that drove me crazy. I switched to the ebook to finish the story, but I still had that voice in my head. This book just didn't work for me. My rating: 1.5 Stars.

Quick Summary: A Montgomery Brothers romance

My Review: Wait for Me by Samantha Chase was book one in the Montgomery Brothers series.

About the Book: A former NFL player gets injured and has a pity party. His therapy of choice is grumpiness and isolation. The only time he comes out of his shell is to conduct business for his father once a month. When his path crosses with his father’s executive assistant, he takes notice. Upon seeing this, wheels are set in motion to pair the two up. Unfortunately, things don’t go as smoothly as hoped.

My Final Say: This was a pretty bland read. I had such high hopes for it. I just did not feel the connection between Lucas and Emma.

Other: There seems to be potential for this line, however, I don’t know if I’m sold on it yet.

Rating: 2.75/5

Perfect heartwarming love story

Taking chance on love isn't easy, especially for Lucas Montgomery who decided to become a recluse after a knee injury derailed his football career. No longer interested in doing surgeries for his well-being, he lived a solitary life up in the mountains, coming down only on the mandatory family/business meetings at the Montgomery office.

And those were the only times that his face could whip up a smile for Emma Taylor, the Montgomery's executive assistant. Emma loved working with them, she even bake brownies for them on special occasions. She'd do everything for them, like driving through a snowstorm. Unfortunately, things got complicated when she met an accident.

After a busy, grueling week, all I wanted is a light read that will make me smile before sleeping. Samantha Chase won me over with this second chance romance between Emma Taylor and Lucas Montgomery. It's perfect heartwarming, romantic and really had me smiling through the night. A pure, clean fun read with chaste kisses in between the sheets. Wait for Me just made my weekend super!

Reading through this story I was a bit disappointed with the lack of feelings I felt towards the characters as well as their feelings towards each other.

Emma Taylor and Lucas Montgomery have apparently been making "eyes" at each other each month that Lucas finally brings himself out of his self-inflicted isolation. So because of this little interaction William Montgomery (Emma's boss & Lucas' father) takes it upon himself to play matchmaker.
I absolutely was in to the idea of the father playing matchmaker and had high hopes for this story, but alas I was left annoyed and disappointed.
Lucas is a self-centered, whinny man-child. A former NFL star who has been sidelined due to a knee injury, he's taken it upon himself to refuse all help and surgeries to possibly make his life easier to live with said injury all because it won't give him his career back.
Emma was a bit flat in regards to her character. She works...alot...and that's literally about all we know about this character.

I really feel this story could've been better had there been more interaction between the characters to help readers feel the attraction between the two.

There are a few reasons I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 3. I did like the story and I liked the characters, but some of the writing and conversations annoyed me enough to lower my star rating.

This is yet another story about a wealthy family patriarch who is ready for his kids to settle down, get married, and provide him with grandkids.

William is the patriarch and head of the family business. Emma is his executive assistant. William and his wife adore Emma. She's a sweet girl and the perfect assistant.

Lucas is William's youngest son. He was a professional quarterback until a career ending knee surgery. Now here's one of my big issues with the story. I liked Lucas a lot. But after his injury and he faced the reality that he'd never play football again, he decided to quit his physical therapy and didn't have the last two surgeries to fix his knee. So for two years he's holed himself up in his mountain cabin, working for his dad's company from home, and only going into the office once a month. First of all, suck it up Buttercup. He's a sexy, wealthy man and he's so depressed about the loss of his career that he becomes a hermit? WHAT? I don't mind if my hero has some weaknesses, but I have little patience for stupidity and that just seemed immature and ridiculous. Why would anyone CHOOSE to live with almost constant pain when a simple surgery could get rid of it? Because the pain was a constant reminder that he wasn't a football player anymore. It made no sense and that just pissed me off.

So anyway, William asks Emma to bring some paperwork to his mountain home, but he intentionally gave her Lucas' address instead of his own hoping it'd snow and Lucas wouldn't want her to drive in the snow once she was there. So there's a blizzard and even though it's white-out conditions, Lucas can see her car spin out in his driveway and down a 10 foot embankment because evidently his house is on the edge of a cliff or something. So she's unconscious and he gets her in the house. One thing leads to another and she ends up staying the whole weekend and the sexual tension becomes too much to resist.

So they have a somewhat rocky, hesitant, intense short-term relationship. They break up for awhile and then he begs her to take him back and they have a lovely happily ever after.

Like I said, I liked Lucas and Emma. I really liked Emma. She didn't mess around and wasn't taking any shit. Lucas was troubled and too hard on himself, but the whole surgery refusal business just pissed me off. I liked how much he liked her and wanted to spend time with her and opened up to her when he hadn't ever opened up to anyone before. While I liked them, there was nothing real special about them and I won't remember them by tomorrow.

This was a short story and it only cost me a dollar, so I feel like I got what I paid for, really. A mediocre short story that I didn't really develop any particular attachment to... It was a sweet read, but the writing fell a tad short for me.

I liked Emma until she ended up at Lucas' house. She was acting like a child, trashing things (she did end up fixing it but only to remove all traces of her ever being there), yelling at Lucas, stomping around (not sure how this was possible considering she had one injured foot but whatever), smashing things (okay, so it was only a frying pan, but who does that in a house that isn't theirs and all over someone not listening to you?). I liked Lucas too until the whole "my life is so sad because I no longer play football for the NFL". Then he just kind of went crazy and started lashing out at Emma because of it and his injury. As much as I didn't like her attitude earlier in the book, I'm glad she didn't put up with his theatrics.

I didn't enjoy the romance. There wasn't much romance at all. It was a lot of child-like behavior from both characters with food and a lot of sex tossed in. A typical day was wake up after a night of having sex multiple times, have morning sex, cook breakfast, have sex, attempt to cook breakfast again, have sex, eat cold breakfast, have sex, do something else for a few hours, have sex again, find something to eat, have sex, have more sex, sleep...repeat. So romantic? No. Is it a steamy read? No. There is a lot of sex, but it doesn't go into detail. I'm quite thankful for that.

Would I recommend this? No. I see this is the first book of a series, and while it gives a small glimpse into the Montgomery brothers, it doesn't do a very good job of making me interested in knowing more about these brothers.

Alright. So although I am not jumping up and down about it, I did enjoy this book. What I enjoyed most about this book was that it showed the PROCESS of fall in in love with someone. Most books people fall in love and it is smooth sailing- with no issues. We all know that this is not the case. So although I found the reason why they were fighting 90% of the time a little silly, it showed the true emotions of two individuals who cares about each other but did not know how to act when hurt. Overall, a nice read.

I couldn’t finish this. I think I’ve just had it with pushing through lack luster stories with uninteresting characters, but this just was annoying.

Emma is a melodramatic shrew with such a contradictory personality that the term bipolar could easily apply, so could multiple personalities. Lucas is a self absorbed, self pitying ass who has not one thing to recommend about him. Outside of some not so great characters, the story and set up was so contrived that I thought I was going to strain a muscle from all the eye rolling going on.

I was probably close to half way through this when I decided to just stop. If I was really that not into it, why torture myself by forcing myself to finish? It is something I do way too often and there are just too many books that I do want to try and read to waste time on something that just isn’t doing it for me, so down it went.

Lucas that boy gets easily distracted, "when she nodded to the bubbles and then looked back at him, he got the picture. “Oh, right. Sorry,” he said and backed out of the bathroom, closing the door behind him." I liked that he gave his girl compliments, "he’d grabbed the magazine from her hands. “Ten positions to make him crazy in bed?” He looked at her incredulously, reading the rest of the headlines on the cover of Cosmo. With a chuckle, he handed it back to her, then leaned down and placed a searing kiss on her lips. “Trust me, Emma , there’s nothing that article can teach you." The boy has some stamina, "it’s been a long time since I’ve had sex standing up like we did last night,” he gave her a sexy grin, “multiple times. My knee is just a little sore today." I liked this book.

I liked both Emma and Lucas from the beginning. Emma seems somewhat stiff and Lucas is a somewhat whiney but broken hero but they are both really likeable.
I also enjoyed the idea of his father setting them up.
I just don't know how these two were so into eachother. I guess I didn't feel it in the beginning because this is a quite short read.

However, I enjoyed the story development and most of all the development of these two. Their emotions just seem so authentic, how they both realize they have feelings for eachother but not knowing how to act on it.

All in all this is a sweet, short romance fun read.

Lucas is awesome

Great book. Great start to the series. Can't wait for more of this series.
This is the story of Emma who works for the Montgomery family and their firm. She is the assistant to the head boss. Emma has had a crush on their son Lucas. With some meddling her boss and wife try to get Emma and their son Lucas together.
Loved this book and can't wait for more.

Emma is the executive assistant to William Montgomery, president (patriarch) of Montgomery Enterprises (okay, I admit I don't remember the name of the company- but it may not have even been mentioned either). William's youngest son, Lucas, used to play in the NFL before a career ending injury. Since that time, he has become a recluse only coming into the city once a month for the family business. William sees attraction between Emma and Lucas and decides to play matchmaker.
I liked Emma and Lucas only somewhat. Lucas was annoying and immature at times. I thought it was ridiculous that he didn't want pity from anyone, but (essentially) threw himself a pity party for one for 2 years. I thought it was ridiculous he would rather be in pain (and not be able to play football) vs no pain/mild discomfort (and not be able to play football). But, that is me.
I thought the relationship buildup was nicely paced. I appreciated that Emma was able to call bullshit on Lucas. More than once. Their relationship had very obvious highs and lows. The events also led Emma to get the courage to pursue her dream. I liked the idea of the family patriarch being the one to set his kids up too.
I did think the resolution was rushed and weaker despite the good start.
For those that like closed door sex scenes, this book would work for you! I'm assuming the rest of the series (and maybe most/all of the author's works too) is like that as well. (I personally like steam, but not at the expense of plot. 90% of the time anyway. Haha).

I am also counting this for #rippedbodicebingo for the "heroine inherits a business" square. "...because I can't think of anyone better to take over this business for me." and "It wasn't every day that you got handed what you wanted without really trying." This was a nice, unexpected surprise since I needed this square!

Meh. Honestly I found myself a little bored. And that's sad because I do like a 'snowed in' trope. I didn't connect with the characters and found the plot to be a bit flat. I do need to say that the company CEO (and Montgomery father) sending Emma out into a blizzard was pretty horrible. She could've been badly injured or killed because of his match-making.

Cover: Okay. I found the kindle cover to be more compelling.
Narrator: No. He was shout-y during about 50% of the book, including times when shout-y wasn't warranted. I turned down the volume at one point.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: This is tricky because I didn't really like the H and h and didn't feel like their characters were developed very well. Lucas is all about his football injury angst and we don't get to know him much more than that. Hufflepuff? And Emma is maybe a Ravenclaw???

Themes: snowed-in, family, injured athlete, baker

I read this book a few years ago and loved it. Re reading it and knowing what's going to happen...I still loved it just as much. How can you not love a book with a broken hero? This is why Samantha Chase is one of the best out there. ❤️

See more of my reviews on my blog Thoughts At One In The Morning.

My Thoughts:

A snowed in love story? Gimme gimme gimme! I started reading this one and fell for the premise instantly, then fell for Emma and Lucas. The two of them have an attraction that has been there for awhile. Since Lucas has been hiding himself away from the world, his father decides to send Emma his way in an attempt to bring him back to normal civilization. His plan gets them together during a blizzard that ends up being much worse than originally anticipated. Emma and Lucas are stuck together for a long time, and their desires begin to take over. Once things are back to normal post-snowstorm, someone is going to have to speak up before they lose each other forever.

Wait for Me is one of the sweetest little love stories. Two people being snowed in together while fighting their feelings makes for one of my absolute favorite cozy reads. Emma and Lucas are both stubborn, but they care. It takes some time for them to learn how to meet halfway, to really get to know each other and understand, but they're willing to try. Definitely a great book to start The Montgomery Brothers series by Samantha Chase!

My Rating: Very Good

DNF Chapter 5.

Cranky hero, childish, self centered heroine, cliche dialogue, it is a 'No' for me.

As a side note, I wish to explained why I labelled heroine as self centered. I found Heroine overly concerned with me, me, me. I find to be really unlikable. In one instance, after hero blows hot and cold towards her, she went into the bedroom in a huff. Wanting to make herself feel better, she decided to draw a bath to make herself feel better. Which created a perfect opportunity for hero to walk in on her in the bath..... Anyway, my gripe is, knowing a friend who lives in a cabin, hot water for him comes in small short supplies. Once his tank of hot water runs out, that was it, no more hot water for him for that day. It is snowing, meaning hot water is specious, it just irks me that the guest of the house decided to draw herself a bath without consulting the host, and potentially deprive of others (the host himself) of water water for the day... seem selfish to me.... but, I guess it is just me and my strange dislike of heroine...

FABTABULOUS!!!! I am so, so glad I decided to start re-reading this wonderful series. I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed it the first time. I love the sense of family that Ms. Chase brings into this series. It is definitely an emotional roller-coaster ride. I was really glad as some points I was reading alone because the tears were really flowing. I had forgotten how emotional I got from the first time I read the book. There were also times that I wanted to reach in the book and smack Lucas up side his head and yell at him to OPEN HIS EYES, the love of your life is right in front of you. One of my absolute favorite characteristics in a book is how emotional it makes me. This one certainly fits that bill.
If you like emotional contemporary romance, this one is definitely for you!!!
Thank you for reading my review.

This was a snooze fest of a novel. I have barely any idea who the main characters are, they're vaguely introduced and then we gloss over half of their interactions. I couldn't tell you what kind of business they run, or what kind of work they do. I can tell you that the main character (Donovan? Liam? I have no idea, I finished this less than a day ago and he was so unmemorable his name didn't even stick in my head) is a whiny baby who refuses to get surgery because he's too busy sulking. The female lead, Emma (I am fairly certain) seems to have no friends, family issues (that we are told about, but ultimately lead no where and seem to be purposeless), and feelings for the bland male lead because he's hot? They've almost never interacted, he shows up once a month at work and then leaves.

I enjoy a cheesy romance novel, but this one was a total waste of time.
