Truth is a powerful weapon…but explosives never hurt.
Sophia can run but she can’t hide. RedZone is on her tail and those of the six tech-augmented soldiers who escaped its clutches with her. If she could only focus on fighting her way to safety, she might live long enough to disappear. But it’s not just her own backside she needs to watch out for.
At her side is her boyfriend, Kyle. He’s the reason she found the courage to escape, and she’ll do anything to keep him and his secrets out of RedZone’s hands. Only problem is, since she was once sent to capture him, he has good reason not to trust her.
In fact, there’s not much trust to go around. RedZone keeps finding them, suggesting someone is a traitor. And if that’s not enough to recapture the group, the organization has a backup plan. One that will force Sophia and Kyle to choose between safety and risking everything one more time.
Contains killer robots, mutant college students, and dangerous super soldiers. And those are the good guys. It’s enough to make a rogue assassin wish she were taking her philosophy final instead.
At A Glance So much action and suspense! The Good Let me just warn you that this is the second book of a duology, so there will be spoilers of book one in my review.
Boy, this book starts with action from page one and just doesn't stop. Sophia and the other super soldiers are just hours into their escape and hiding from the secret government agency RedZone, a horrible place of lies, experiments, and death. Despite their best efforts, the bad guys always find them and the group is getting desperate. Should they keep running or should they fight back?
I loved the set up of Sophia's altering POVs in different points of time. It built the mystery and suspense up to perfection. We got one piece of the truth at a time, just like Sophia did, until the pieces of the puzzle all fit together just at the end. I like how Kyle and Cole fit into the picture but we weren't sure in what aspect. I really had my doubts, so Martin did her job.
Sophia and the other characters all grew a lot. I am hopeful for their futures now. The ending was satisfying in every way. I love when an author makes sure to answer all the questions we might have. The Bad I expected a little more complexity in some areas. Except for that one surprise/mystery aspect, the plot was pretty straightforward. The Snuggly I am trying to steer clear of romance for a couple of weeks just to kick myself out of this reading slump, so Resist was perfect. Yes, there is slight romance, like almost every book has, but it was subdued. A little angsty but I think Sophia and Kyle are cute together. There is sex but it's completely skipped over. Final Thoughts This was a very good set of books and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a YA/NA suspense story with a little sci-fi mixed in.
Quotes At RTC, I read Audrey's copy of Frankenstein one afternoon, and staring in horrified pity at the E, I understand that story in new ways. It is Frankenstein's monster, not comprised of dead men's body parts but of mad technologies. A fully empathic creature that was failed by its creators and is seeking revenge. A step in my own evolution.
I don't want to help hunt it down. I want to set it free. But that's not the right reaction. It can't be free for the same reason Frankenstein's monster couldn't be free. The outside world is no place for it.

I enjoyed reading the RedZone duology. It's was full of action and adventure, it was definitely a great ride. You can read my review of Revive (book 1) here.
Resist picks up where book 1 was left off. Sophia and the whole gang are on the run from RedZone but they keep finding them somehow despite their best efforts to stay hidden. It's not long before Sophia finds herself in the starting point once again when she is kidnapped and brought back to RedZone and they try to wipe her memories again. She is kept as a prisoner in the place where she once called home. But stakes are even higher this time, if her memories don't come back soon, then they may not be able to stay alive to see the next sunset.
What I liked the most about this book was that it was filled with suspense and action from the very first page. We are kept in suspense about what is going on which kept me fairly interested. The beginning of this book was a bit confusing but when I realized what was happening I was startled. Sophia was back to square one which was a bit dissapointing, it was a lot like reading the first book once again. I wanted to see something new, more risky tasks but thay didn't't happen but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy this book. Although I felt the ending was a bit rushed, I would have loved if there was a much more detailed scene but nonetheless it was satisfying.
The characters were pretty good and enjoyable. I liked Sophia and this time, although when her memory was gone she was confident and trusted her instinct and that probably the things that saved her. We don't get to see more of Kyle, but he is present in the flashbacks of Sophia when she starts getting her memory back in glimpses. I'm so glad there was no insta-love or that sort of thing between Sophia and Kyle because seriously, they don't get to spend much time together in all the chaos. Although I was not a big fan of Cole in the first book, I warmed upto his character towards the end.
Overall, Resist was a good ending to the RedZone duology. It was action packed and laced with suspense. The characters enlived the story and they were pretty enjoyable. The writing style was smooth and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book.
Resist is the second and final novel in the Red Zone duology by Tracy Martin and is concludes the series nicely.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor Revive, Resist is told through the eyes of Sophia Hernandez and picks up where the previous book left off, with Sophia and her friends on the run after their escape from Malone and Red Zone. With Malone and the organisation he heads taking drastic measures to force the runaways home, Sophia and those loves decide it’s time to take Red Zone down once and for all…….
I want to be honest here; I’m at a mixed mind when it comes to this book, and this series as a whole really. Overall I did enjoy it and don’t regret reading it, but I wasn’t sucked in or blown away by the story. Resist featured a steady pace that at times lagged for me. I wanted to adore the characters, I wanted to be swept into the story, but I just wasn’t. Resist was decently written and has all the elements to make a great mysterious read; there was just something missing that could have taken it from an okay read and to the next level for me.
Resist unfolds across two different tenses; the past and an unknown present where Sophia has no memories of her time on the run and her feelings about Red Zone. Resist picks up where the last novel left off and bounces back and forth between the timelines until they ultimately meet and the novel moves forward. I have to admit that despite my issues with Resist, the stubbornness in me had me eager to know what was going on, and it was this streak in me that kept me reading a lot of the time.
Personally I think Sophia had potential and was easy enough to follow, but she didn’t blow me away as the main character either. Her voice was easy to follow, but honestly, I didn’t feel one way or another about her. Although I was glad about some of the choices she made.
Martin makes a real attempt at creating a character dynamic that shines and though I loved most of Sophia’s unit (Cole, Summer, Jordan, Lev, Gabe) it was she and Kyle who’s chemistry and dynamic I found the most lacking. It was another one of those instances where I tried, over and over to connect, but kept failing to do so.
The concept within Resist, and its predecessor Revive was something I thought Tracey Martin explored very well. Personally I would like the chance to explore Martin’s world more if the chance ever arose and would kill for a series featuring Cole as he won me over from the get go!
I am going to preface this review with the fact that I have not read the first book in this series. With that said, I found it works as a stand-alone. Sophia, aka Sev, is an enhanced human with many abilities. She is part of a team of operative sent on missions for the group known as RedZone. Sophia and her team escaped from RedZone, but they kept being found each time they moved on to a new location. Kyle, her boyfriend/human target RedZone sent her to find in the first place, does not like the team leader, Cole, with good reason. Cole is in love with Sophia. The story begins with Sophia and Cole on a mission at a business holiday party. Her job is to download information from a bank officer’s computer and turn that information over to the RedZone leader, Malone. It’s a test of her allegiance to the group after the team’s failed escape.
Sophia has flashbacks of the team’s escape. But, she doesn’t fully remember all of the details because RedZone wiped her memory clean. She remembers Kyle and her feelings for him, but can’t act on them or else she will be destroyed. She tries to piece together what happened after their escape and how she was recaptured. She, also, does not know if it her rest of her team was brought back to RedZone, too, because she is being held in a cell where the rejects are kept.
I found the flashbacks to flow well within the main story. Sometimes, they can take away from the main theme of the story, but that did not happen in this case. Also, the story is so full of action, twists, and turns that make it easy to keep going without wanting to put the book down. I was on the edge of my seat, egging Sophia on, during the flashback sequences. Honestly, the action was my favorite part of the book! The author’s creativity with the world building is so good and imaginative. Great job, Ms. Martin!
Overall, this book is a must read for any Sci-Fi/ New Adult fan!
This is the second book in the Redzone set and starts off with Sophia back in the camp. Cole is also there with her, and she finds out that Kyle is also there. Her memories are missing again, although she is having dreams and flashbacks which are confusing as they seem very real. Sophia has to play a game with rules unknown, not knowing who she can trust, until she can get her memories back and figure out just what the hell is going on.
This is once again packed full of action and attitude. I loved how you are with Sophia all the way, only learning bits as she does. This made for one heck of a page turner! I am torn on how I feel about Cole though. At one point, I really disliked him (and I do mean REALLY!), but now I just sort of feel sorry for him. I hope that he gets his HEA at some point.
Well written and totally gripping, I loved every scene in this book. Yes, I am completely happy with the way things turned out, and no, I can't think of a single thing that I would change. Loved it! Highly recommended.

This is book two in the series and it is great. This story is even more suspenseful than book one. It also has many twists and surprises. i loved the action and the fast paced nature of this book. Right away it started off fast and suspenseful. The flashbacks are very well done with no confusion due to them thank goodness. I loved them as they are a neat way to give us readers little important bits of information we need. Many authors do not do these well but Tracey did a marvelous job.
With a memory that was wiped away Sophia has to deal with much confusion and questions. Her strange flashbacks shock her and many of them involve Kyle. Oh Kyle I kind of miss you in this story. But then there is Cole who is an interesting character. Part of me dislikes him while the other part of me is quietly rooting for him to find happiness.
This is the second book I have read and enjoyed by Tracey Martin. Her writing is fun, fresh, and very fast paced. Her stories are full of action and adventures with many twists. And most of all her talent of writing suspenseful stories is amazing and impressive.
I received an arc of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
The action packed second book in the Redzone series, Resist, delivers on its promise of excitement, some answers, more questions, and a satisfying conclusion.
From the very first page we're plunged right into the action with close calls, top secret tech, Sophia kicking ass, and... more missing memories. Poor Sophia. That girl cannot catch a break. Every time she thinks she's got solid ground under her something comes along to through her off balance. I felt for her, desperate, confused, not knowing who to turn to, who to trust, how to save her friends, but she never gives up.
Like in the first book in the series Resist jumps back and forth between the present and the past, slowly revealing secrets and betrayals. While the time jumps aren't my favorite writing style it is very unique and kept me reading to find out what happens next.
I look forward to see what Tracey Martin comes up with next!
