Senior and Stephanie’s love story really stood the test of time. A second-chance romance that had ALL the feels! The fact that this love has lasted for decades! 🥹 I loved seeing the depth of the relationships, the family dynamics, and how all of it came together.
Big Stanley applied JUST the right amount of pressure 😂👏🏾 And the introduction of Sevyn and Daxon added such a beautiful layer to the story. I especially loved seeing the family through the parental lens.
Duece and Mama Stephen’s bond! 🥹❤️
And the sisterhood between Allison, Tavia, Step, and Maddie? LOVED IT!
Also… NO ONE GOT KIDNAPPED! 😂🙌🏾

I wanted to love this book… but I couldn’t. 😭 I’m a firm believer that sometimes you can love a person and still not be meant to be with that person, and I think that’s the case for Senior and Steph.
At times, I felt like the author was pushing the whole “that’s my person,” “that’s the love of my life,” “I’ve loved her my whole life” narrative so hard that it felt like we were supposed to believe it was GOOD love. In my opinion, Steph and Senior had real love, but it wasn’t good love.
Maybe if this book had been first in the series and their storyline had played out differently, I would’ve been more willing to accept and love their story. But in this case? I couldn’t. I hate cheating, and they’re both cheaters.
Yes, Steph didn’t owe Maddie any loyalty, but as a woman, how could you willingly play a part in breaking another woman’s heart? How can you love a man who betrayed another woman in one of the worst ways possible? And how could you sit in that woman’s face and admit, “I absolutely was” fucking her man while they were together, with almost no remorse? I felt no genuine apology from that scene between Steph and Maddie.
That being said, I had to DNF at 69%. 😭
I also believe Deuce had every right to feel the way he did. And Salima was REALLY pissing me off, talking all crazy and telling him to shut up and sit down. Like girl, PLEASE. 😭
And honestly, I feel like the whole “four baby mamas” thing didn’t bother me as much while reading the other books, but now that I’m looking at Senior and Steph’s story specifically, it’s like… if Steph was always the first choice, Senior should’ve stopped being in the game. He shouldn’t have continued creating broken homes, because that’s what he did. Yes, he’s a present father, but that doesn’t change the fact that the situation created broken and unstable homes. Steph pissed me off when she said he didn’t create broken homes because… girl, he absolutely did. 😭
And honestly, I want to say Steph deserves better. Because why would you go back to a man who had FOUR other baby mamas but was still claiming to love you throughout all of that?? But hey… she’s right where she wants to be, I guess. 🤷🏽♀️
I also felt like Deuce being the ONLY person who had a problem with everything, while literally everyone else seemed perfectly fine with it, was almost a way to convince the readers that it was okay. Same with Maddie getting married—it felt like the author wrote that in so there wouldn’t be any issues or consequences surrounding everything that happened.
But yeah… this was NOT for me. 😭
I enjoyed some of the other books in this series, but this one wasn’t it for me.

I was like ehhh 2 stars until about 75% in 🥴.
It was repetitive. I felt I was being forced to see their love, instead of just feeling it through the story. For instance, if we would have read when he helped through her grief, then maybe that would have gave me the feels.
I didn’t like how her side piece behavior was minimized in the name of love. Like why you lowkey beefy, while saying you’re not, and yall was playing in my face. 😒
Then talking about SenIor didn’t make broken homes. He absolutely did. It worked out but he did.

August 21, 2026This is a different type of review for me because I started capturing notes as I read so I could write one later and decided to just use those as my review. Keep in mind they’re my real-time thoughts so proceed with caution. 🚨Spoilers ahead!🚨
Let me be clear this review isn’t about quality of writing. Kimberly is great and I have always enjoyed her. Sometimes as readers we’re not fans of how a story unfolds and that is this for me. I’m sad that it turned out this way, too. But it’s ok. I’m glad we were able to see updates on the kids and grands but for me, this book did more harm than good for how I view Senior and Stephanie. I’m probably in the minority with that feeling and that’s ok, too. The beauty of books is they allow each of us to have our own opinions and perspectives.
37% It’s sad to say I think I just don’t see it for senior. Which is so sad for me because I have been looking forward to his story. I just…idk. I feel like it didn’t have enough remorse from him. Admittedly I am of the mindset that women need to make a man’s chest hurt when they have them f’d up. And yeah ok he had to watch her marry Aaron but that wasn’t enough to me. He still had too much access so it was like she never actually was able to separate from his grasp and that’s frustrating and disappointing. I didn’t think I’d say this but I’m team Deuce because at the end of the day, whether it was being unfaithful or being neglectful senior still mishandled the f out of Stephanie and she deserved better. I’m still reading but I’m capturing my sentiments so far so I don’t lose them. Also it’s possible my stance evolves I’m only 37% in…
Ok at 47% I feel like I’m coming around a bit now. One, I feel like my grievances and concerns are getting space on the page via Deuce’s perspective and even Stephanie’s own acknowledgment of how jacked up the dynamics were between her and Senior for so long. I appreciate the flashback specifically around her right after Aaron’s death. It does help show her navigating grief after her husband’s death, how she didn’t hide that from senior and he did show up for her. I just appreciate when accountability has a place. I loved Deuce’s scene where he called his father on his ish. Shout-out to KB for recognizing that someone needed to give voice to how trash Senior was in the past.and Shout out to Deucey! Standing on business behind his mama! Folks may say he was doing too much but his second chapter explained his character’s perspective beautifully and I think he’s more than justified for it. It’s bringing me around in this book now.
57% and I’m annoyed again cuz what you mean he walked in and you kept going?! And Deuce why did you stay?!?! And wtf is Salima on?! Cuz why is she coming at Deuce like that?? I’m sorry what is happening here?? But Deuce. My guy. LEAVE. Cuz see had it been me? ERRYBODY GETTING BLOCKED! Enjoy yourselves. Happy you’re happy. Go be happy as a clam. Without me. Tuh.
Stephanie, girl - I’m not even sympathetic for your lil feelings being hurt. Yeah, it is the beginning of a rift. Live ya life, do ya thing, but you don’t get to tell Deuce how to feel about it - or force him to be around when he doesn’t want to be.
58% I think I hate him. Him being Senior. Which is crazy to say but it’s almost like in the light of his own book I see his ways and I’m just not with it. I don’t think he ever took full, genuine accountability for how his own actions have contributed to how his son feels about this relationship. I don’t. At this point I’m ready to write my own fanfic from Deuce’s perspective because Senior keeps fixating on how he never cheated or lied as if that absolves everything else. And why keep mentioning how you don’t need to explain yourself - ok so don’t? Carry on. But you want to do this, not explain yourself, and want Deuce to smile and celebrate. Why does he owe you that??
Me looking up War About You by Nek Mills because at this point I wanna read about a FMC who beats men up cuz I wanna beat Senior’s a** right now…
63% This is crazy work. This book is undoing so much of the respect and love I had for these people cuz this convo with Stephanie and Maddie in the kitchen?! WHAT?! Stephanie. You got a little too much dip on ya chip for me sis. Nah. She got way too much bass in her voice for me. Nah. Maddie should’ve whooped her a** off GP.
64% We got close to some kinda redemption with the scene with Deuce and his brothers in the gym. But then here comes Salima. What is going on?! I’m so irked with her and how she’s carrying this whole thing. Salima girl - I liked you!! Why are these people really acting like this man is being wildly dramatic?? Imagine spending your life seeing your mother and father go back and forth, seeing her cry, watching him build broken homes all over the place, then she gets true happiness and love. Loses it. And that same father comes back as if you supposed to be over the moon that he wants to supposedly do right by her now. PLEASE. You can’t force him to deal with you. You wanna be together, fine but stop treating this man like he’s overreacting or his feelings aren’t valid cuz that’s bs. And then Senior slapped him?! So my you mad at Deuce for telling you about yourself?! What is you on?! (This book got me defending Deuce. Help. )
67% and I’m calling it. I’m done. I’m sad. I’m sure Kimberly does her big one with how the rest of this book goes, but I can’t. The whole you can’t say how you feel or hold boundaries when you disagree thing that’s happening is not it for me. Maybe I’ll revisit at a later date and see if I can finish.

Senior by Kimberly Brown was the PERFECT ending to the Dillinger Chronicles series. ❤️📚
I read this book extremely slow because I simply did NOT want it to end. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the Dillingers. 😭
Unpopular opinion: I have always loved Senior. 😂 So getting to see what his life looked like after retirement made me so happy. Even with all the unexpected turns along the way, he somehow ended up exactly where he was supposed to be.
I also loved getting those little glimpses into how the other Dillingers have grown, changed and expanded their own families. It was such a nice way to close out the series and see where everyone ended up. There wasn't a single second of this book that I didn't enjoy. It gave me everything I wanted from a series finale, while still making me incredibly emotional about having to say goodbye.
The Dillinger Chronicles will definitely be a series I miss, and Senior was such a fitting way to bring it all home. ❤️ 4/5 ⭐️

I am always going to be a fan of Circle the Block tropes!
Senior & Steph have to be my favorite book couple so far. This man put the pressure on then pulled back when Steph needed a friend. Their love story is one for the ages. The love they shared is unmatched.
Dicey was a fool in the book and got checked by his mama, daddy, and wife! lol
I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us with the newest Dillinger’s.
The editing issues is the only reason I didn’t give this book 5⭐️

Beautiful! All joy and just everything I have loved about the Dillingers. I only wish there was just a little bit of Organization action, but overall, I loved it and I am so happy for Stephanie and Stephanie. I really hope there are more Dillinger stories to come.

While I’m happy that Senior got a HEA, I was kinda bored with this book. Mainly because it just seemed so repetitive. I swear every other page was us reading how Deuce was going to go off and he folded like laundry cause big poppa was never running from the smoke. And he let us know that every other page as well. The “I’m the dad, he’s the son, he came from my nuts” just got old fast.
I did like the various chat groups between the family members and how much Senior lives in his kids AND grandkids. I initially was annoyed that these grown folks wanted to add adopted kids with the while football team worth of grandkids they had but I was happy to see that this series will likely extend through them.
Anyways… if any books on Dax and Sevyn come out, I’ll be tuned in.

Sigh
I wanted to love this. I waited for this. It just felt rushed. The death, the fast forward to the relationship. I would've like to see a glimpse in the life of them and the newly adopted kids, redemption for the kids and maybe what the kids look like now. Obvious the book couldn't be 600 pages but we didn't need the glimpses in the past we pretty much had the gist of it.

Now I am not going to hold you, when I found out these two were getting back together, I wasn't as open to it because I liked the view of the ladies married to someone else. Just like Kimberly said though, it was planned if you paid attention to it. I can truly say now that I am so happy they did.

Now I am not going to hold you, when I found out these two were getting back together, I wasn't as open to it because I liked the view of the ladies married to someone else. Just like Kimberly said though, it was planned if you paid attention to it. I can truly say now that I am so happy they did.

This was a nice addition to the Dillinger Chronicles. I absolutely love the emotional intelligence Senior displays and how he doesn’t make excuses for his past actions. He takes accountability for his part in why things didn’t work out between him and Stephanie over the years, and I really appreciated that. That man was so tender about his Stephanie, and I loved that for both of them.
I also appreciated the author showing how love can be nuanced and that even if you have a soulmate, your heart can still have the capacity to love someone else. I believe Stephanie truly loved Aaron, just like I believe Senior loved all of his “baby mamas,” but the love they held for each other was soul-deep. And after being invested across so many books I was glad to see them finally get together.
I will say the story did get a little repetitive. “Y’all are in love. Been in love your whole life. Lament about why y’all didn’t work. Deuce is gonna be mad when he finds out. Rinse and repeat.” 🤣 I found myself wanting the conflict to hurry up and happen because it started to drag a bit. Once things finally came to a head, the explosion was pretty much what I expected, but I appreciated Senior not allowing his child to bully him or dictate his life.
There are two characters introduced who will now play a monumental role in the family, and I wish their integration into the family had been explored a little more. It wasn’t rushed, but I would have loved to see more of their interactions and how everyone processed these new dynamics. Their storyline isn’t necessarily incomplete, but it does leave just enough room for a possible novella or update story—which, in a perfect world, I would absolutely read.👀
At the end of the day, this story wasn’t as heavy on drama and action as the previous books, which felt appropriate given that our MCs are in their mid-50s and entering a new chapter of their lives. It still had the elements we’ve come to love from this series: the banter, the softness toward their women, and the strong blood and chosen-family dynamics. It was a fitting story for Senior and Stephanie, a nice addition to the Chronicles, and I could definitely see this being a feel-good comfort read for readers who enjoy mature romance and strong family dynamics.

I enjoyed Senior’s story, but it was a little too predictable for me. My favorite part was seeing the Dillinger family continue to grow and the story will continue through Dax and Sevyn. I won’t lie, I did question why two older people with a million grandkids would go this route to extend the family, but this tied into the missions they already complete.
Other than the rift between Deuce and Senior over Stephanie, there wasn’t a lot of action or drama, so it didn’t pull me in the same way some of the earlier books did. Still, it was nice to see this family come full circle and get their happy ending.
The Dillingers definitely took over my life for a little while, and I enjoyed the ride.

I loved Senior so much. The love, the history, and the yearning had me in my feelings. Sometimes you really have to wait until the stars align because what’s meant for you will find its way back.

As always, I enjoyed the banter from the Dillinger crew. I love a good second-chance romance, and while I enjoyed Senior and Stephanie’s love story, the conflicts keeping them apart started to feel repetitive. I wanted the flashbacks to give me more insight into what made Stephanie feel like their relationship truly couldn’t work. Instead, I felt like I was repeatedly told why she had reservations without being shown enough to fully understand them, which made some of the conflict feel superficial to me.
Overall though, this was still a good time. The Dillinger family is still one of my favorite fictional families. They love each other down, and that always makes me feel good.

🌶️🌶️🌶️ What a way to end a series. Senior and Stephanie lived a lifetime together. Even when they weren’t in a relationship they were always there for each other and supported each other. I liked getting more of their history and the beginnings of their love story. It was so complicated and after all they went through senior was there when Stephanie need him the most and their friendship got even deeper. This is the epitome of a Second Chance romance. Such a moving and deep story.

This was hands down the best book of the series. I lovedddd this so bad. Senior is officially my new fav Dillinger. We all knew it was a second chance romance but this was so much more than expected. I laughed, I cried, I awwww’d and I ooooohh’d. This story packed so many emotions. It’s definitely in my top reads of the year.

I have been waiting for Senior’s book. Great second chance. I love how she showed their true relationship was based off of friendship. He was there for her when no one else knew in her darkest moments.

Oh how I love this family! The evolution of Senior was beautiful to see and while I loved that Ms. Stephanie got to live her soft life with Aaron, I’m overjoyed that she got her soulmate in the end. The love in this family- romantic, familial, deep friendships is palpable. This cannot be the end of the Dillingers ESPECIALLY with the newly minted Dillingers in the mix! Welcome Dax and Sevyn! I see at least a couple more missions on the horizon. Somebody’s head has to roll behind what those kids have been through. This was a beautiful grown and incredibly sexy story!

Tears overflowing...
I just finished Senior: The Dillinger Chronicles by Kimberly Brown, and I’m still emotional. I was in tears reading Senior and Stephanie’s story—my heart really overflowed at how their love finally came full circle. And I loved seeing the growth of Senior from the beginning of the series to the end of his journey.
I also want to genuinely praise Stephanie. She stood on what she needed in a partner and refused to tolerate less, and that matters. Women—both fictional and real—don’t always get written or choose to “stand on business” when it comes to love. She did, and she kept moving forward for herself. The message of “if it was meant to be” hit so hard, because that’s exactly what happened—Senior matured into the man she wanted and deserved.
And Mr. Deuce—you reminded me so much of my own son. I really appreciated how protective he was of his mom, even in the midst of his dad’s presence. But what stood out even more was the moment he recognized change and chose to embrace Senior and Stephanie’s love instead of resisting it. That was heartfelt and beautifully done.
Overall, what a well-written story, Ms. Brown. I can tell you introduced new Dillinger characters too, and I’m wondering—are we going to get two more books? Will Sevyn and Daxon get their own stories? Things definitely feel like they’re unfolding, and I’m here for it.
My final word is gratitude: thank you for taking me on a journey and making me believe in the possibilities.

The smile I had on my face while reading this book was so heartwarming. Rolls eyes ughh of course, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t cry!! Big crocodile ass tears too. Had to get it together several times.
I waited a little while to read this because in my heart it felt like Senior's book would be the perfect wrap up for the series. There was something special about finally getting his story and seeing what happens when a love that has survived years, distance, heartbreak and missed opportunities is given another chance.
Senior and Stephanie’s story reminded me that sometimes love isn’t about finding the right person at the wrong time and forcing things to work. Sometimes, you have to let someone go and allow life to take its course. You grow. You experience life. You love. You lose. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, life brings that person back around when you’re finally in a place to receive the love you always wanted.
That’s what made this story so beautiful to me. Senior loved Stephanie enough to let her choose stability when he knew he couldn’t give her what she needed at that time. Hmm should I say choose because Stephanie left because she refused to be second place to whatever. Stephanie never forgot the love they shared. This book was EVERYTHINGGGG.
I love me a grown and sexy book, and baby Kimberly did what needed to be done with this one. I already knew Senior and Stephanie’s story was going to be good, but I really loved how everything played out. Their journey wasn’t perfect, and I appreciated that. They both had their own things to work through, but they never let those things completely define them or their relationship.
Duece though… was def ready to throw blows behind his mama!! he just a true mamas boy but i’m glad it didnt come to that.
Stephanie being a boy mom made so much sense to me because I understood her. That protection is going to kick in before anything else. But sometimes we have to remember that our kids are going to grow up and have their own feelings, opinions, and experiences. You can protect them while still allowing them to live their own lives.
Stephanie and Maddie… chileeee women do NOT forget disrespect. I’m sorry. The claws were definitely out, but I loved that the apology was genuine and actually heard. It wasn’t just a “my bad” and everybody moves on. There was accountability, and I appreciated that.
