Airborne Trilogy #1 Fireflies (available) #2 Butterflies (coming June 2015)
After the treasure hunt that brought Gabriel together with his friends over the summer, a new adventure lurks on the horizon. When Eddie accidentally stumbles on a group of seniors planning this year’s secret Halloween party, the five friends decide they must discover its location.
However, finding the location is only the beginning of more trouble lying in wait. Love infiltrates their little group.
While the budding relationship between Liam and Jordan stirs the butterflies that so far had slept in their tummies, it at the same time crushes the heart of another member of their group. Eventually not only Jack but also Eddie confide in Gabriel and share a secret that threaten to break the bonds of friendship. Now it is up to Gabriel to find a way through the maze of feelings that stand between his friends and a happily-ever-after.
Bound to secrecy, Gabriel turns to the one person he feels can help him…Hannah.
Although Gabriel lost the red-haired girl with the glowing eyes at the end of summer, he still finds himself talking to the little firefly, who was his friend and understood him like no one ever had.
And Hannah answers.
Offering advice and encouragement, Hannah guides Gabriel through another trying time in his life. Struggling with his friends’ secrets, Gabriel can’t help but wonder what they would think of his own. Would they think him crazy for speaking to a firefly? And even more so, for hearing her answer?
An epic love story that spans across an entire series. Ensure that you have a good cup of tea, something to nibble on and perhaps a box of tissues at hand before you dive into this slow-burn Regency romance full of enchanting moments between Sarah and Keir, the little wisp and the highlander.
I loved the first book in this series, and would not suggest reading this book before reading Fireflies, you can, there is adequate backstory so that you will understand what is happening, but it can't match the emotional involvement with the characters that you feel from having read the story. I did not purchase this book, but was given it as an advance reading copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This second book about Gabriel and his friends begins where the first ended, Gabriel is still living with his grandparents and his parents are still in another town and having trouble communicating. He is still mourning the death of the first real friend he ever made, but a paranormal twist has him still communicating with her and getting the benefit of her advice when his world seems overwhelming. There are still fun adventures, instead of a town treasure hunt, these middle school students set out to unravel the town secret of where THE Halloween Party is held each year by the senior class. There is still real life ups and downs and emotional tangles as each of the friends deals with family issues or growing pains, young love , or identity crisis. The amazingly real feel of the interactions between these friends balance the sometimes too wise sounding advice of the departed friend.
This is a book that would have helped me through my own middle school experience and is enjoyable even as an adult reader. There are a few minor times when the editing shows that a spell checker didn't catch a word substitution, but there were less than a handful in the whole book that I noticed, a phone "slit" from fingers, instead of "slipped" from fingers.
I would suggest reading these books to any early teenager who is feeling alone in the problems they are having as they struggle to find who they really are.
This is the continuation of sorts about Gabriel and Hannah.
Hannah as you recall passed away at the end of Fireflies and became one herself.
This time, things are changing as the kids start junior high. Two of Gabriel's friends have feelings for each other and a third one also has feelings but not what anyone thinks. And that's where the problem lies.
As the kids want to figure where the seniors are having their Halloween party, they come to odds with each other. Gabriel becomes the middle man with everyone's secrets plus that of his own. And who does he turn to, to ask for help? That little bossy firefly. Hannah does a great job sending him in the direction he should go, not only with his friends but with his parents as well.
This is a great growing of age book that everyone should read. We all have been there and the young people will be there soon enough.
Great continuation of the storyline from the first book in this series. The characters are definitely growing and developing as the story goes on. The tone of this book becomes a little more mature as the characters themselves mature and find themselves dealing with the new emotions and struggles that accompany adolescence. I look forward to seeing both the plot and characters continue to progress as the series continues.
The first book, Fireflies, had me in tears and I didn't think this would be the same but, guess what, yep had me in tears too. On to the third in the trilogy, Dragonflies.
I loved the first book, Fireflies, so I was excited to get my hands on the sequel. Bree Wolf sent me a free e-copy for an honest review.
Like the first book, Butterflies is a sweet and wise story. The activities of Gabriel and his friends are fun to read about, and the way Gabriel's character develops is fascinating.
However, much as I was interested in all the familiar, well-drawn characters, I was a little disappointed. Butterflies somehow lacks the spark of Fireflies. First, Hannah from across the divide is less appealing than Hannah right here. And there is too much teen angst. I felt the same disappointment in the way the Harry Potter series developed, so it's not a reflection on the book; just my personal taste. I think this book would be a great read for teenagers, and will help them see their own problems in perspective as well.
I won a copy of this book in giveaways and I'm very grateful to the author for that! It was a really pleasant reading, fascinating, funny and wise. Though I haven't read the first part, I could get the connection Gabriel and Hannah had. And I'm definitely going to order the first and the third part of this trilogy. It will be very interesting for me to see the growth and development of characters. Hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did!
