This is a beloved children's book published in 1969, it had that very late 60's look with the yellows and oranges reminiscent of early Sesame Street, Alpha Time Letter People, and Super Kids early childhood language arts curriculum. This story is a fable teaching us that true beauty and worth come from within and that surface beauty is fleeting. It also deals with themes of vanity and snobbery. My Nana read this book to me everyday because I loved it so much I knew every word by memory if my grandmother missed even one word I would correct her I could not yet read all this was from memory.
