Rate this book
Once, the world belonged to humanity.

Now, it belongs to them.

Clinging to life in scattered strongholds, rival factions huddle behind their crumbling walls and steam-powered gates. The sacred Flame bestows reality-bending powers on the worthy but grants the same powers to the horrors that haunt the night.

In one such stronghold, a young man named Wretch is caught between ruthless hunters and the abominations from beyond the wall. Desperate to rise above his insignificance, he dreams of wielding the Flame’s blessings—no matter the cost.

But the Flame acts without mercy or prejudice.

To climb the ranks of the mighty, he must thrive within a fading city ripe with hunger and danger.

And when the Flame demands cruelty and his own grisly transformation as the price of his power, Wretch must

Is there anything he wouldn’t sacrifice?

book started really good a dark and gritty mc trying to survive on the streets and doing whatever he can. this part is written flawlessly but then mc turns from vicious street dog who is fighting for survival into a cute puppy and lost all his gritt and became a model citizen and became another dull litrpg mc that just follows the rules and generally is a gooooddd boooyyyy! there are some plot holes like he returns into his former hideout and doesn't ransacked the place for money or even some clothes this sort of behavior doesn't match someone with street smarts just so he gets rejected and reaches some good guys who take him in. after the first few chapters is all goes down the drain, more like a coming of age story than anything else.

Fantastic

Had me glued to the pages from less than halfway through, couldn’t put it down. This book doesn’t pull any punches, it really makes you feel the struggle. Can’t wait for the next entry!

Couldn't put it down after the first chapter! Exciting story, well written characters and amazing world building. Really impressive for a first-time author. Can't wait for the sequels. Truly a page-turner!
