Dissolute #1

Insensate

Rate this book
The Virtuous feel it’s their duty to send seven Crusaders out every year - into the Dissolutes’ Ecocity - to at least try and see if there are still people worth saving. Thus far none have returned. You’d think after years of no one coming back, they would realize it’s not working. Surely all those people can’t all still be trying to convert the Dissolute?

Our Ecocity abides by way of the seven virtues since the wars have ended. I’d say live, but I wouldn’t go that far. No one is truly alive around here if you ask my opinion, but I wouldn’t dare say that out loud. If someone dares go against the System of Principles, they get judged by the Emissaries, and if found blameworthy of an act against any of the Seven Virtues they are cast out to become a Dissolute. The Emissaries are clever, they never use words like hate, love, religion, nor faith and hope. I’ve read about those words and I think words like ‘hope’ and ‘faith’ might wake the people up, make them less zombie-like.

First of all I must tell you that I don't read Dystopian at all !! Like, I haven't read "The Divergent Series" or "Hunger Games Series." Go figure !
But this was something i was so impatient to read and TRY dystopian just because of this lovely cover ! I am in love with these colors.
But apart from the cover, the book itself was worth a shot ! It was my first Dystopian novel and I truly loved it.

The story was so grabbing that i couldn't put it down. Michelle Horst has nailed it !!
The story is about war and freedom. There are two rivals Virtuous and Dissolutes, there is a war between them. Virtuous have the ritual to choose seven people every year and send them to the World of Dissolutes to save the people and spread the word.
Jai is chosen to go in the other world but she doesn't know that everything is not the way it looks like.

"Life is not about being fair. It's about choices and believing that you always that you always make the right one. If you don't believe you made the right ones, it will haunt your every step."

The story was very fascinating, it kept me on the edge of the seat right from the beginning and i was thoroughly turning pages to see what happens next.
Amazing piece of art, full of emotions, feelings of survival and first love !

I have been looking forward to reading this book ever since I saw the gorgeous cover and read the blurb and I was not disappointed. I was completely sucked in and transported to the author’s dystopian world where the Virtuous and Dissolute battle for different ideals. As a reader I felt every high and low (there are several!) that Jai goes through. I experienced her awakening as she realises everything she believes to be true isn’t what she thought. Then add Chance (can I just say *swoon*) to the mix and we watch their blossoming relationship where each of them struggles with their emotions for very different reasons. The heat these two generate in each other’s company would definitely make one of the solar panels surplus to requirements hehe!

The secondary characters were intriguing as well and I can’t wait to find out more about them in the next book because as usual I have loads of questions I want the answers to.

If I have to describe this book in one word it would be captivating! Michelle had me captivated from the moment I started the book right till the end. I eagerly anticipate the next in the series so I can continue the journey!!

I, like most people my age, have read other popular Dystopian type books. I wasn't really a fan. But this one has completely blown my mind! The suspense, the intrigue and the purity had me sold immediately. Michelle actually got me to believe in a world where feelings like caring and love are a completely unusual sensation. The wonderful words and characters completely sucked me in to this whole new world! Jai's transformation is fresh and raw. I loved experiencing her new world with her. And Chance too in a way even though he's been gone from his Virtuous life for a while! I enjoyed the characters discovering themselves all over again! My favorite part had to be experiencing their love for each other for the first time through their eyes. The side characters were also well written and I think did a fantastic job bringing everything to full circle! Another great story Michelle! I can't wait to see where their journey takes them to next time!

This was the first time I've read a dystopian book (I've watched only the first The Hunger Games movie and didn't like it) and I have loved it.
I'm so fascinated about this genre now that as soon as I've finished this I 1-clicked another trilogy :)
Michelle Horst sucked me into the story since the first chapter and kept me held until the end with her clear writing style and interesting characters,I found myself eagerly turning pages to know what happenened next.

"You fit with me."

Thank you Michelle!!
I can't wait to read the second book *^*

I have to admit that I've been sceptical about the topic of the book first. Having read and seen stories like "The Hunger Games" or "Divergent", etc to be honest I thought this would be very similar and I wasn't sure what to expect. But as I would even read the telephone book if Michelle rewrites it, I just had to see myself. Thank God, because I did not get disapointed.

The book and the story around Jai really got me. For me as a person who basically depends on her heart and feelings, it's hard to imagine how it must be to grow up in an environment where you get told all your life, that feeling and touching (and everything connected to this) is wrong and makes you a bad person. So I felt pity for Jai first but then really enjoyed her journey of discovery, not able to tell what exactly this is she feels.

And then there is Chance... Michelle really knows how to describe a character so the readers get an perfect image - I think every reader has that one guy in mind who fits (almost) perfectly. And so Michelle made me fall in love with Chance, like it happened years ago with Raighne. You know I love and hate you for that, Michelle! ;)

All in all, I cannot wait to read the next book...

This story centres around a controlled world, one where people are told what to believe and know never to question what they have been told. When Jai's life is turned upside down and she is thrown into the unknown, she meets strong, smart, angry stranger Chance and he sets about bringing the whole facade down around her, opening up her world in more ways than one.

Days later and I still have a book hangover. I think about the characters a lot! This book had everything i could possibly want from a YA/NA Dystopian book. You have Chance...the very, very, very (yes i needed 3 very's) hot Alfa. You have Jai, who although naive, is stronger than you could ever imagine. She has fight, and grit and a fire in her belly and it’s beautiful.

The two of them together make for an amazing team, but more than that, all the secondary characters in this book set you on edge in the most fantastic way and you want to know about their stories.

I loved this book and i absolutely cannot wait for Michelle to write more of this series and publish it all again.
It blew me away!

I loved this! I won this in a competition, and wow what a good book! I was hooked right from the start - the story unfolds at a good pace - I was literally itching to find out where the story was going, what was going to happen next, and how they would get through the situations.
The characters were likeable, and Jai is a wonderful main character showing great inner strength and determination, as well as a softer caring personality. The story is written from her pov, as she comes to terms with what is happening.
I really didn't want this story to finish, and went straight to buying the next book, Ruth. Michelle Horst writes dystopian really well, and I would highly recommend this!

this story takes you beyond what we believe to a world where the future is trying to create a perfect race but without feeling, It takes you on a journey of both sides of what they know and how they react to the new emotions that have been hidden. You can't help but be drawn into their world, you question how you would react and deal with it all, go with it or fight for what you feel is true.
The characters are great strong people some you want to bash and others you have so much respect for, the main characters are young and how they deal with what is happening has you holding your breath....... I can't wait to read the next one.

What a great story... it has completely turned me into a fan of Dystopian! It is so fast paced, and full of excitement, but it is never too fast that you can't follow along. I loved the mystery of how the characters were woven together, and the innocent aspects that made you fall in love with them! I can't wait to catch up with Jai and Chance again, and see how the rest of the story unfolds!
