Sara Greaves has been planning her perfect wedding since she was five. Instead, she's dumped by her fiancé and meets Ethan Monroe—Mr. Dall, Dark, And Anti-Marriage—who bets that she could marry any guy in Vegas and make it work. Except now Ethan has a hangover, a wedding band, and a sexy, gorgeous bride for the next month. He''ll have to convince the new Mrs. Monroe that marriage is a crock....and hope like hell that his little change of plans doesn't turn into a change of heart.
Robyn lives with her husband and two sons on the outskirts of Melbourne, one of the most liveable cities in the world. Writing romance helps to balance the effects of living in an all-male household. She loves to cook, hates to clean up, and keeps very odd hours. She thinks that lattes are one of the most significant inventions ever—right up there with fire, the wheel and electricity. She collects art glass and spotted dinnerware, loves movies of all descriptions, and is almost certain that pavlova and cheesecake form the sixth major food group.
I wanted to like this, I really did. The idea sounded interesting and it hinted at comedy and a steamy romance. However, even though this is only a novella, it's taken me a few days to get through.
A Change of Plans started off well. I liked that it began with Sara picking up and leaving everything behind to head to Vegas to be daring. It was a bold move and I wanted to know how things would play out. Similarly, when Ethan got involved things started to become even more interesting.
However, unfortunately it didn't last for me. I found things moved too slowly and there were a lot of events that felt irrelevant. From the blurb I just wanted to get to the marriage part and it seemed to take forever to arrive. When it finally did, I was slightly disappointed. Everything felt muted. Emotions weren't strong, situations were too short, details were missed, and things moved too quickly. It was a strange read for me because the first half was too slow and the second half was too quick.
I don't know, maybe I would have felt different if I'd connected with the characters, but Ethan was so closed off. You never really learn anything about him, and then there's Sara who just seemed to go with the flow. After what had happened to her I expected stronger emotions. Her character seemed inconsistent with when she stood up for herself and when she didn't.
As for the ending it all seemed to come out if nowhere. New threads were introduced and I felt they were under developed. Then it just ends. Things are tied up, but not satisfyingly. They're rushed and seem too easy.
Overall this isn't a bad read. I know it doesn't sound like it, but is was a nice little story. It didn't draw any emotion from me and I think the pacing and timeline needs work, but it was okay. Maybe if it was longer and more developed I would have liked it better because the idea was good.
Let me start this review by saying that I’ve been having issues with movie trailers. See, this has been happening a lot to me lately, where I watch a trailer, I think it looks really promising so I watch the movie. But then the movie turns out to be a dud.
Well, let’s just say this blurb looked interesting to me, I thought it had potential… and I was right, the plot line had potential, but…. you know when you’re making cookies from a new recipe you haven’t tried yet and when you get all the ingredients it feels like it doesn’t have enough liquid so you have a bowl filled with little crumbs of dry un-knead-able cookie dough? I don’t know if there’s a word for that but that was what this book felt like to me.
I’m usually all for insta-lust/love/attraction/soulmates/whatever. I’m actually more into this kind of plot than the friends-to-lovers one, but in this instance this felt completely random.
Sara is pawning her engagement ring after her fiancé dumps her 2 weeks before the wedding. She has spent 20 years planning this event and has everyone in her hometown involved in it somehow.
Ethan is a cynical divorce lawyer taking a breather in Vegas, and so happens to be in the same shop and pretends (for some reason I still can’t understand) to be Sara’s boyfriend. When he learns of her woe-is-me tale, he decides to make her trip a happy one and Sara proceeds by apparently having a personality disorder break down. She keeps going hot and cold, nothing Ethan does seems to be right to her and she keeps making extravagantly random judgments and putting warped reasoning behind his actions.
Ethan wasn’t all there either, as, for example, no-one (not even his best-friend/business partner) had ever set foot in his home. There’s private and then there’s Ethan…
So, let’s just say that this book didn’t work for me, at all. I really wanted to like it. I made the effort to read it through the end. I know being a writer is not easy. It’s hard work, it means dedication and courage. I just wish this story had been “kneaded” a little longer, I think it could have been a good one.
This was a very… hectic read. The story was all over the place, the characters weren’t very consistent… I didn’t enjoy this book very much, unfortunately. I really wanted to, since the blurb was intriguing, but everything about this book just didn’t work out for me.
Sara is the kind of woman who has been waiting and planning for her wedding day since she was a little girl. But to her devastation, she’s dumped by her fiancé, and she goes to Vegas to pawn off her engagement ring. There, she meets a mysterious, attractive man named Ethan, who helps and guides her trip in Vegas. Even though they’re complete opposites – Ethan is a divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love – the two hit it off. And somehow they manage to get accidentally married while in Vegas.
This book felt very unfinished, with lots of plot holes and little explanation. It was hard to connect with either Sara or Ethan, since their personalities were so disconnected and hard to follow. As for the plot… it was very weakly written. I’m not even sure how Sara and Ethan accidentally got hitched – very little is explained in a cohesive way in the book. It felt like everything was just thrown together, and we had to accept it for what it was.
I really wish I could’ve enjoyed it more, but everything about the book felt weak. This book just didn’t work for me.
Thanks to the publisher for generously providing me an ARC to review.
Review: This book is a really hard one to review. On one hand it had relatively interesting characters and a good set up but on the other hand there was like this giant disconnect and I felt like I was missing half the picture.
Where was the ~connection~ that made Sara willing to hang around with a strange man? What was that game they were playing whilst the were drunk and how exactly did they end up married to each other? Why would Ethan convince Sara to move with him to LA and then keep her hidden from everyone? What were the purpose of James and Zoe? Why was James giving Ethan a good talking to one minute and the next Ethan was explaining the plan to hunt down Sara's ex-fiancé the next? How is that Sara and Ethan were proceeding with their platonic relationship and then the net minute they were in bed with no build-up? How exactly does an ex-fiancé go about planning a wedding with one woman and then substituting the bride at the last minute and then coincidentally run into the jilted bride and her new husband in a completely different city?
I feel like someone went through the book and ripped out half of every chapter. I finished this book feeling confused and bewildered. Was that a story I just read or a half-worked basic plot outline?
What happens when you're suddenly dumped right before your wedding? Well, run off to Vegas to get away from all the people who feel sorry for her to pawn her wedding ring and have some fun. Sara isn't expecting to run into someone like Ethan at the pawn shop, but it's lucky that she does since she saves her from possibly losing money on the $70,000 ring. (Side note: HOLY CRAP HOW MUCH???) The two of them stick together around Vegas for drinks and dinner and talking, with a few kisses along the way. Until one night, he makes a bet with her to marry any random guy in Vegas and that she'll be in love with him in a month. When they accidentally get married, he asks her to follow through on the bet.
A Change of Plans was an unexpected journey leading to love. The story kind of blindsided me since I didn't read the synopsis, but that was my own fault. The sudden marriage kind of threw me at first, but I liked how it progressed until the end. Everything leading Sara and Ethan up to it before was cute as well. There's a lot more to the story regarding Ethan's past and most recent case, not to mention Sara's ex--so I liked how the story wasn't all about the two main characters. I'm curious to see what's coming next from Robyn Thomas.
I'm torn on this one. The first half? Super fun and sexy. Second half? Rushed.
I often have this problem with novellas. So many of them are really larger stories, and having them jammed into so few pages doesn't really work. (There are a few notable exceptions, like The Story Guy or Her Best Laid Plans, but they're exceptions.) What's particularly frustrating about this one, though, is that Robyn Thomas did such a great job building the story at the start. We get a good foundation of the characters, a slow build to the relationship part, some good tension. And I love the conceit. Accidental marriages/marriages of convenience/fake relationships are a favorite of mine. Which is why the close was such a disappointment! I know that Robyn Thomas is capable of fully exploring the story. I just watched her do it! So why she glanced over the most dramatic parts I'll never understand.
It was fun, and shows much promise. I'd love to see what the author can do with a full length novel.

Have to say, I couldn’t completely connect with these characters. And also, maybe because it was a novella, I felt some things were rather rushed, mostly by the end.
We have Sara and Ethan, two people who just happened to meet in Las Vegas. They spent their time not only in bed together, but also touring the city. This subject annoyed me a bit, tbh, mostly because Sara was constantly running away from Ethan and it felt like every time they got to a place, they left two seconds later because Sara freaked out or something. I don’t know, stay put! LOL.
I also wanted to beat the crap out of her ex fiancé, because really, the guy was an ASS to the tenth degree. I couldn’t believe his nerve. Gah, so much hate for that guy.
Ethan was also a bit of an ass when they left Vegas, and even though I could understand his POV, I still thought he behaved poorly.
Still, things resolved in a good manner, but like I mentioned before, things felt too rushed for my taste.

I liked the premise of this story. Ethan was very mysterious and I wish we could have gotten to know him more as well as his the outcome of his big case. He was very secretive, very demanding (in a good way), very cool. Sara was an interesting character. She appeared fragile but would also unleash her strength and independence when crossed. She kept Ethan on his toes and kept surprising him. I loved that about their dynamic. I would have loved to have more of their story.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.
Not having read any of Robyn Thomas's works before, I was impressed with how she executed the story line and the characters' back stories. I found myself feeling for Sara Greaves as she struggled to regain trust in other people while trying to move forward with her life. When the story starts we meet a very nervous/confused Sara Greaves. After planning the perfect wedding, Sara gets dumped by her fiance at the last minute and with the chaos surrounding her, she decides to go to Las Vegas to get away from it all. Not knowing much of her surroundings, she drives to a pawnshop to get rid of the ring that should have meant everything to her, but ended up hurting her in the end. And that is exactly where she bumps into Ethan Monroe, the handsome stranger that seems to be the only one that wants to genuinely help her out.
As the two of them slowly start to reveal each other's secrets, they both seem to want the same thing and that is to get away from their current lives at least until they're ready to go back. With that said, Ethan suggests they explore Vegas and when they have way too many drinks you can only guess what happens next as the two woke up the next day with a hangover and Sara with a ring on her left hand. After trying to go back to her old life, Ethan asks Sara to come live with him for a certain amount of time in which they will give their marriage a try to see where that leads them, but after too many misunderstandings he'll have to convince Sara that he really is falling in love with her after all.
Personally this was your typical “what-happens-in-Vegas-type-of-story” that we've seen/read so many time, but the plot itself turns out to be different. We get to see/learn more about Ethan towards the end (last part of the story) that it's a bit different to how it started. He has a very controlling/overprotective personality that gets in the way of his relationship with Sara. Whereas she has a kind personality that her career is not something that you would think a person like her would do. It was fun reading about their conversations and romantic scenes. I liked how Ethan's friends got involved when they saw tension between Sara and Ethan, they sort of push the two of them to see how they were really feeling about to each other and getting them to admit it. Overall the plot has its ups an downs as the characters learn to move on from their past lives in order to form a new life with one another. I would definitely be reading more the author now and if you're looking for a quick romantic story then I would suggest giving this book a try. :)

Ooops...they've moved the release day back to July 7, 2015
This is a trope that I love: Married by accident. I really wish I had liked this rendition more. I kept thinking that I'd missed a few lines, like my Kindle was skipping pages or something. It read like an editor went through and said: Sorry! Too many words! Let's just delete about a third of the book.
Sara has been jilted two weeks before her wedding, the wedding she's been planning since she was five. She's driven to Vegas for a bit of spontaneity. She's going to pawn her $70,000 (wowza) ring and live a little. Ethan is in Vegas mainly because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...and he wants to play a little before his parents divorce...with him as his mom's attorney. And basically that's all we know or find out about that divorce.
Ethan sees Sara as she pauses before stepping into the pawn shop. Her long hair is what caught his attention (btw, it's also what drew her ex-fiance to her). They spend some time together and we get hints that he's led a lonely life since his birth; his mom wins the title of "Worst Mother Ever". At least I think she does. We keep getting hints of what his life was like and I wonder if the whole story was left on the cutting room floor!
From the blurb we know they wake up married and try to give their marriage 30 days. Sort of. Mainly Ethan wants to keep her hidden away from the real world (again, sort of) because he knows her ex married someone else on their wedding day...using HER wedding plans...and all of her friends...and the honeymoon...and everything...and she's not going to get her wedding insurance money because the event went forward. I kept wondering where her family was...and really, no one called to tell her about this? She had no friends? Odd.
Okay, I was confused about why he was keeping her under wraps for that 30 days. More of the story on the floor somewhere?
She meets new clients (she makes and sells lingerie), and friends, on the beach at his house. She bumps into the ex...and his new wife in LA. Really? LA is HUGE...like...HUGE...and they literally bump into each other.
Yes, I really wanted to like this more than I did. It just read like half a book. It is a novella, but I think it could have had a bit more explanation and depth in the allotted amount of words.
If you are looking for something to read for 1.5 hours...something like popcorn for the brain...this is the one for you. I'm giving this a 2.5 bookmark rating...and will round to 3 for all sites. I will give this author another shot and hope I get the whole story next time!
*Thank you, Entangled and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book.
Sara Greaves went to Vegas on a whim. The wedding she has planned forever has been cancelled. Her fiance did not want her. She meets Ethan Monroe in a pawn shop. She needs money and is thinking she should pawn her engagement ring for the money she needs.
Ethan shows her a whole other side to the fun in Las Vegas. He sees her need for companionship, friendship, and even protection. He also cannot help but be attracted to her right off. She is sweet and yet so very hot.
Sara needs some "me" time. She is also learning that her horrible ex-fiance was a user and a control freak. She is learning to let loose in Vegas with a bit of help from Ethan. Her confidence is coming back.
Then one night they get drunk and there are consequences they must discuss. She moves with him to his home on Los Angeles, for 30 days to figure out her future. Sara also gains clients for her lingerie business there.
The story unfolds with me thinking one thing will happen and I was happily surprised it didn't. The Ethan character is a strong, good man. I loved the banter and the good time they seemed to have together. Sexy times in here were also nice and spicy and worth the read.

Sara Greaves has just been dumped by her fiancee two weeks before the wedding, now she has an expensive ring and a wedding insurance payout to look forward too. When an impulsive trip to Vegas lands her in the path of divorce attorney Ethan Munroe.
For some unknown reason Ethan decides to set out to prove to her that she can be married to anyone and be happy within a month, somehow Mr. I Don't Want Marriage ends up as the groom in that bet. Soon Ethan is out to turn his month into forever.
The story was good, it was fun; Sara's ex was such an opportunistic douche and what he does is just unforgivable, especially when he doesn't cancel anything for the wedding and marries someone else on Sara's hard earned cash.
Seriously how could Sara think that he would cancel anything when he said he'd handle it. I'm just happy that she gets her happy ending with a great guy.
I felt much like every other reviewer that I read, *after* the fact (of course): that the book was all over the place, very disjointed and hard to follow. There was a disconnect between the reader and the characters, as if there was a wall with only holes here and there to allow us mere glimpses of the people we are supposed to want to connect with in the book.
The blurb looked really good, but the story wasn't executed in a way that made me feel like I even really was involved in something. It was just too arms-length and lacking a cohesive whole. I've no words, actually. It was just that vague and... well, cold.
This was a fun read but I really would have enjoyed a little more to the story. Sara has planned her perfect wedding. The one she's been dreaming of since she was little. When her fiancee dumps her and promises to deal with everything himself, she takes the opportunity to run to Vegas. There she meets Ethan Monroe who tries to convince her she could have her pick of men if she tried. After a night of drinking they wake up together, wedding rings on their fingers, and a wild ride ahead of them. Again a fun light read that will entertain you but nothing to deep in the story.
I was really having trouble connecting with these characters. I didn't find much chemistry between them and sadly, their meeting at a pawn shop didn't feel like a meet-cute to me, more like a guy trying to scam a girl. No rating as I don't like to rate books that I don't finish. As this is my first experience with this author, I'm willing to take another chance on her in the future.
Note: a copy of this story was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review.
From the moment Ethan meets Sara he appoints himself her protector. There is just something so sweet about that to me. Sara is in a strange city trying to escape the heartache and pain she left behind and encounters her own personal bodyguard. That chance meeting sends these complete strangers on a collision course to love. Although the story is unrealistic and ended too soon. I enjoyed the journey. A Change of Plans is a fun escape that I didn't want to end.
This was an awesome novella of love and Vegas. While I loved the story I did find the ending a bit abrupt. I thought it was a wonderful love story of broken and harden hearts finding their way to each other in an unconventional way.
Overall, I enjoyed this book; it was fun and relatively lite hearted. Ethan and Sara are interesting characters who held my interested until the end. I loved the grand gesture – it so fit the couple.
What lowered my rating was some of the storylines that either weren’t explained or the ending was extremely unsatisfying. I wanted more from the situation involving Sara’s ex then what we were provided and we never really found out about Ethan’s parents – who they are and as their divorce was a huge part of the story, how it played out. I would have loved an epilogue given the way the story ended.
I liked the premise but there seemed to be lots of missing pieces. Several times leaps were made from one situation to another without more detail to make it convincing
I've read a couple of romances with this plot, and enjoyed most of them. Unfortunately, this one didn't really work for me.
With the "accidently married a stranger in Vegas" storyline, you need to be willing to suspend disbelief for the duration, given that you actually need to get a marriage license and turn up sober to do it (from what I've read elsewhere, not from personal experience). So I was definitely on board for the "oops, we got drunk and ended up married" part of this story. What made it feel off was the fact that As for the secondary characters,
Finally, some comments on the blurb in comparison to what actually happened in the story:
All in all, it's not a bad read by any means, but the storyline has been done better and with more humor and passion, so I can't help but compare it.
I usually love a vegas story but this one was confusing. I had to reread the last few pages to understand the ending as I felt it was all over the place. Not my type of writing style. I like to read a story as if I am the character, I felt like I was reading about the characters, so the connection was missing. I'm sorry my review wasn't all positive. I really wanted to enjoy it, it just wasn't for me.

A Change of Plans is a accidental marriage trope book. Sara, who is left by her fiance just days before their wedding heads to Vegas to get away from her 'everyone knows everyone's business' town. While there she meets Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome. Of course it's Vegas, so why not take a chance? The next morning Sara wakes up with a ring on her finger and a husband who isn't the man she's been engaged to for years and for the extra boot in the pants: he's anti-marriage.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK - I liked the unusual circumstances that Sara and Ethan meet under. I also liked that Ethan is a ruthless divorce attorney, and yet from the beginning he has a soft spot for Sara and wants to help her any way that he can. Thomas' plot is interesting and the characters are likable but...
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE - I wish the book was longer. I know that it's a novella, so of course it's going to be short, but I felt as if this couple had more to them and would have liked to see this develop more. Another thing, let's talk friendships...or lack there of. Ethan has limited personal ties. His so-called best friend has never even set foot in Ethan's house...How can that be? As for Sara her entire town was involved in what was to be this huge, elaborate wedding and yet not a single one called to tell her that her ex-groom to be decided to hitch his wagon to another horse? Maybe that just seemed strange to me and only me, but it was one of my first thoughts.
I thought the author had a good and interesting plot set up, I just think it needed to develop a bit more.
I received a copy of this story through NetGalley from Entangled Publishing for an honest review. This was a very short read (120 pages - a little over an hour). The beginning felt a little confusing to me. I think it was the idea of Ethan meeting Sara outside a Las Vegas pawn shop as she was trying to pawn a $70K ring. I couldn't stop thinking he could be scamming her or trying taking advantage of her during a vulnerable time. Obviously, he's the hero and this is a "we woke up the next morning hungover and married" type of book. Plus, Sara was a great and normal character going through the range of feelings after a lifetime of planning a wedding only to be dumped a few days before the big day. I really enjoyed the book once they were married. Ethan seemed to settle into a more comfortable role and I liked Zoe and James as side characters. The ending seemed rushed as there was a run-in with the ex and his explanation had my jaw dropping. Maybe if the book had been longer and paced slower after they're married, this could be played out to its full dramatic potential along with Ethan's realization of his feelings for Sara. Plus, I'm not entirely sure why he was "hiding" her and what all was going on with the biggest case of his career - representing his mother's divorce against his own father. Yikes - that's a lot of counseling he'll need to get over mommy/daddy issues! I think the book had good bones and direction.
Sara runs to Vegas after being dumped a few days before the dream wedding she has been planning. There she meets Ethan, a divorce attorney who doesn't want anything to do with love...his career has taught him it isn't worth it. But Sara makes him want things he never thought he would and when he wakes up hungover and married, he knows he doesn't want what happened in Vegas to stay there.
I really wanted to like this book...it has a fun premise and the characters are very likable, but it just fell really short in too many areas for me. First there was way too much going on for a novella...it needed to be much simpler. Everything felt rushed from character development to plot which left me wanting more and feeling disappointed.
My thoughts:
Quick hook or slow starter? 3 (I was never really hooked) Character development: 3 Level of Romance between characters: 3 Passion/Heat level: 3 (sex scenes are ok but I wanted more) Angst/Heartbreak: 3 (a little bit of drama toward the end but nothing crazy) Cliffhanger?: Not really a cliffhanger, everything just felt rushed and unfinished.
Overall, I think this one had a lot of potential but just fell short for me.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A Change of Plans for me, is a really short read. Sara's been planning her dream wedding forever. Her dream guy just dumped her, and while she waits to get whatever money back that she can, she goes to Vegas to pawn the expensive ring he gave her and have a little fun. It's while heading to the pawn shop that she meets cynic Ethan. As a divorce lawyer, preparing to embark on representing his mom in his parents divorce, he doesn't ever want to get married. What follows is what happens when they wake up married.
There were parts of this book that I liked, and others I felt it was lacking. I think it's the length. I like to know more. I would have loved it if we got more of a back story. Some elements would have been great in a longer book. I think with more time to delve into everything I wouldn't have shaken my head at what the ex fiance did, or the fact that Sara uprooted her life for a stranger.
Sara and Ethan meet under unusual circumstances. She's in Las Vegas to escape her broken engagement. Ethan sees her at a pawn shop and is intrigued by her circumstances and her fragile beauty. Ethan is interested and wants to help her. A night of Vegas night life and they wake up married. Where do they go from here? Sara is an interesting character. She has a gentle spirit combined with an inner strength. If I had been jilted, I doubt my attitude would have been as understanding and introspective. Ethan is so mysterious. I liked his desire to help Sara and his thoughtful gestures. I just never understood him. I realized that his parents were responsible for his aloofness. The plot was interesting and the characters had chemistry, but I wanted more. I know that a novella limits how deep an author can go. I just felt that something was missing. The series, What Happens in Vegas, has an interesting premise so I will check out the next book.
