Spanning three continents and two eras, here is the story of the love affair between the playboy Prince of Wales, Edward VII and Lillie Langtry , the greatest international beauty of her day.
I didn't know anything at all about Lillie Langtry - save that she was one of the mistresses of Edward VII. This biography is very well researched but at times hardgoing. I think the problem is that in my view Lillie simply wasn't a very interesting woman. She was a woman who made the best of her life but she does come across as rather self absorbed and this perhaps put me off a little bit. She simply didn't treat anyone very well - not even her daughter. I was more interested actually in Edward VII as Prince of Wales - it was the sections where he fetaures that kept my interest more than the rest of the information about Lillie. Overall a good read, clearly well researched but the subject matter failed to hold my interest.
