Destiny Finds Her

Rate this book
Jami – Content with her life working for a publishing house, enjoying her caffeine addiction and her daily banter with best friend Todd. Jami wasn’t one to believe in Destiny. When her world turns upside down just days before her 25th birthday, her beliefs are challenged and time is ripped away. Dozing off in the sun one moment and sitting in a field of heather with a talking hamster the next will rattle any normal girl. But hearing a sexy deep voice and turning to find the Highlander it belongs to will rock anyone’s world!
Devlin- He always looked forward to the festival every year. He loved to see all the hustle and bustle around the keep, what he couldn’t handle was his mother hounding him about finding that “one” to settle down with as the middle brother he still had plenty of time. He escaped daily to do his rounds along the land’s perimeter, but one day he found something or should I say someone he wasn’t expecting. One look, one smell was all it took. He would find out who she was.
Jami- not one to believe in destiny tucked herself into the library for a quick respite from the annual Christmas party quickly turns into the journey of a lifetime. Gazing out the window at the full moon, the world goes hazy and time shifts. Gone are the glittering decorations and dazzling dresses, replaced with Highland warriors, fields of heather, and a tiny talking hamster?
Faced with the obstacle of overcoming her fears and embracing her powers, Jami’s destiny is hers to take. Or is it?

*Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock*

4.5 Fangs!

No one believes in Destiny anymore. Not even Jami and as a reviewer for a publishing house, she reads it every day. Always feeling that she was meant for more, she's fairly content with her life. She loves her job and spending time with her best friend Todd. Jami has known that she was adopted. Her birth parents left a few things for her when she turned eighteen. There was one letter they requested that she not read until the day of her 25th birthday. She respected that wish and it never felt right to try to read it before hand. Jami has always relied on her instincts and they have never led her astray.
Strange things start happening as her 25th birthday approaches. She finds herself daydreaming more often than she ever has before. These daydreams feel so real compared to anything in the past. She finds herself in another time in a Scottish settlement and feels absolutely content watching the people carrying on with their chores. The scent of heather on the air soothes her. Nothing could disrupt the dreams, well except a fine specimen of Highlander that shouldn't be rude to her in her dream. She wakes up back at the brook where she drifted off. She begins to think that she's crazy when a rodent named Roma starts talking to her. Roma assures her that she will help Jami on her path once she embraces her destiny. Her instincts tell her that she's not crazy and she trusts in that.
Jami's mother wants Jami to attend her fundraising Christmas ball that happens to fall on her 25th birthday. Jami's mother knows her all too well and knows that Jami will not want to attend. Schmoozing with the rich and famous is not her cup of tea, but it is for her best friend Todd. Her mother isn't above going through Todd as he will jump at any opportunity to dress up and schmooze. Jami agrees to go, but takes her birth parents' letter with her. She decides that with all the daydreaming she has been doing and her instincts calling to her that she will keep an open mind and open heart when she reads this final letter. She knew in her heart that she was always meant for more, but she questions if she's strong enough to blindly follow the destiny her birth mother speaks of in her letter. She has minutes to decide and if her birth mother's words are to be believed, people's lives could depend on her. She's not sure if she can handle that responsibility.

Missing something

Miranda Lynn has an okay plot, but there is no depth. I felt no attachment to any of the characters as the characters had almost no development.
Much of the story was told similar to: this happened and then this happened, and oh yeah this too. A bit painful to read and I lost interest after the first few chapters.

It was very slow in the beginning, and didn't really care for all the fairy subject but I guess it had to be included for the story to work. It did pick up toward the end, the reason I gave it 3 stars. Not sure I will be reading the second one for this series.

I was very disappointed in this book. It started very well but after a while I felt as if I was reading a draft and not a finished story. There were some very good passages and other that felt rushed. I often had the impression some dialogues were thrown randomly to explain something than you don’t hear about if for the rest of the story.
Like what becomes of the fact she have to unite the rival clans.
And when they have their very serious conversation about trust: he just paraphrases what she just said to him… In that case a simple “you are right” would have been enough. The story was also lacking some development. Like when they present the “bad guy” where does it come from? And the next instant she already knows how to defeat the evil? Same for the love story. I know they are “soul mate” but still: they did not talk or observe each other that much. In contrast, the friendships with Christian was very well depicted.
Also, I had some trouble when she first talks with Todd. We still did not know her name so the “joke” on her name was falling flat (the one about Todd’s voice was funny though).
Another detail but she is looking at the fire in the hall and it start acting strange then when she is upset she made it roar. Yet when she wants to test if her sister gave hers power she look at fire first. It is a bit confusing.
But I still felt material behind the story which made me wants to read until the end. The banter between Devlin and Jamie, the interaction with Todd and even toward her mother, the interesting facts about Fae and the old Scottish life, the description of nature and landscapes…

Good second installment. While the story was entertaining and overall very enjoyable it just didn't hold my attention as completely as the first book did. Not sure why. It had every one of the same elements that the first book did and it is a really good story. It's full of intrigue and suspense with plenty of action, magic and romance to keep the story moving.

I don't consider this a standalone book. You really need to read the series the order to fully understand everything that is going on

We learn more about their family line and the connection they have to the Fae. Blair and Jami should know by now you can never trust a Fae.

The ending was an interesting twist. Even though I hate cliffhangers, this one was very intriguing and seems like it could be really interesting and fun in the next book.

Lesley Parkin did a good job with the narration. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. The accent she uses fits the story and characters perfectly. Her female character voices are good of coarse but there really isn't much difference between the male and female character voices. A bit more difference between the male character voices would have made the characters a bit more interesting. It feels like you are listening to one character throughout the whole book which gets monotonous after a while.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.

Destiny Finds her is Miranda's first book and wow, I am in love with the story, her characters and the flow of her words. Could totally see this as a movie! It is time travel, magic/fairy elements, friendship, coming into your own self and embracing it and a wonderful love story!
Jami is from our time and has never fit in except with her best friend Todd. She is adopted and comes from a wealthy family but has decided to make her own way...find where she fits in. Then right before her birthday her world begins to change and her destiny is revealed to her.
Devlin is in 17th Century Scotland and has his hands full with the keep, his family, training his warriors, the battle with the Campbell's and the Fall Festival. Then he glimpses Jami and his world will never be the same. He is sexy, loyal and if he can have faith he can have everything he could ever wish for.
I had not read a time travel in years and realize why I love it so much. Thank you Miranda and I can not wait to read more of your books. Lucky for us there is another one in this series .

When I started this book, I thought it was going to be like Karen Marie Moning's time travel stories where the main character (Jami) falls asleep in modern times and wakes up in 1700 Scotland, has to figure out how to live in ancient times and falls in love. I was so wrong! She travels in time back and forth, no one knows if she's really time travelling (except a gypsy) and there are so many twists as Jami learns about her past and herself that it kept me entertained the entire time. I could not put this book down. I also liked that Jami and Devlin did not fall in love at first sight. Though the build up to their relationship was quick, it was very enjoyable. This is a great book and I can't wait to read more by this author.

Medieval setting? Check! Time travel? Check! Sexy Heroine? Check! Studly male in her sights? Check! Majikal Fae creatures? Check!

Wow, just wow! Ya, I loved this story. I can't wait to find the time to get more and keep reading about this world and woman. It might smack a bit of "Outlander" in setting and premise, but that could just be me, fresh off binging Seasons 1&2 on DVD. But it also diverges a lot with all the majikal things it has and the deeper backstory and history that is sure to be even more explained and written in the following books.

The only caveat I could even bring to the party would be to have a bit more fish out of water settings with Jami using 20th century knowledge.

A time travel highlander romance should be nothing but fun and this was anything but.

This was very stale, a lot of sterotypes, a lot of actions with no build up no backstory. You felt no connection to any of the characters and therefore no connection to the story. DNF at 67%

As I read the description of the book, I was SO excited that it was a time-traveling love story. I couldn't wait to dig my hands (or well eyes) into this book. Let me tell you, Miranda does not disappoint.

At 18, Jami was told she was adopted as a baby, and never knew who her real parents. Close to her 25 birthday things were getting a little strange to her. One day she went on a run and found a river. She fell asleep and when she woke up("in her dream") she wasn't in the same place, yet she was. Little did she know she time-traveled to the past. That's how her story started in..

When she finally figures out how to stay in the past longer then a couple minutes/few hours, shes able to build a connection with the people there, and that is how she meets Devlin, and finds out her Destiny. Will she decide to take her Destiny or walk away from it?

Destiny Finds her, is a must read. I loved this book, and I couldn't put it down!

*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Jami is a simple girl, she loves to read and work at her publishing company, she loves to fuel her caffeine addiction, and she loves when her best friend Todd takes her shopping or brings by the best designer outfits for her to try on when her adoptive mother is just being a little too much for her. A few days before her 25th birthday she goes on a walk and comes across this brook she’s never seen before. After taking a nap for a few minutes she seems to find herself dreaming about being in 19th Century Scotland. After waking up she goes home not thinking anything of it. The next few days she seems drawn to go to the brook again, and falling asleep each time she dreams of being in 19th Century Scotland. Even though she thinks she’s dreaming, she actually is time travelling and has even been noticed a couple times by the rich and powerful man Devlin O’Rourke (who has been hounded by his mother to eventually settle down with “the one”) and a member of his patrolmen Christian. They can’t decide if seeing a woman in weird clothing appearing and then suddenly disappearing is real or not. On her 25th birthday she finds and opens a book from her parents and it shows pictures of the brook she visits and talks about an old life and where she and her family supposedly used to come from. It explains that her parents didn’t want to give her up but it was the only way to keep her safe and they also sent her by magic to the future.
Later on that night she falls asleep at a party her adoptive mother is throwing and wakes up again in 19th Century Scotland, only after everything she’s learned she knows this time, and all the times before that she is meant to be there. The longer she is there, the more friends she meets that help her with learning who she really is and the more her attraction to Devlin grows. If only he wasn’t so stubborn and actually admitted that he has a strong attraction to her too.
Overall this story was enjoyable. It did seem a little rushed at times and characters were mentioned but not really explained well and weren’t fleshed out as much as it seemed they should be but it is the first in a series so hopefully we can learn about some of these characters more.

Ms. Lynn writes her debut novel and takes on the brave challenge of time-travel, romance, and paranormal mystery. The first book in a trilogy (I believe), I cannot wait for the remainder of the series to be written.

Jami Morgan knows that there is mystery surrounding her life. On her 18th birthday she learns that she's been adopted and that much will be revealed to her when she turns twenty-five. Secrets and domineering personalities drive a wedge between Jami and her adoptive mother, leaving her longing for secrets to come to light.

We meet Jami days before her twenty-fifth birthday as she moves through the quiet life she has built for herself. An editor for a publishing house, she spends her days reading and holding authors futures in the palms of her hands. (I must admit that I found this an entertaining truth for Ms. Lynn to incorporate.)

Leading up to the big day, Jami begins to make different decisions and take different paths. All of which culminates into a temporal shift and awakening to the knowledge that the life she's lead is far from the one she could - if she can take a leap of faith.

Readers are creatively transported to 19th century Scotland, to embark upon a mysterious and magical journey. I am looking forward to reading Ms. Lynn's future endeavors.

***This story ends in a cliffy***
Great story with a mix of Paranormal fae and time travel! Loved Jami's strong attitude and despite her feelings and what she knew had to be done she wouldn't put up with Devlin's attitude. Jami is the decendent from the past that was put in the future to protect the future of a clan in Scotland. Right before her 25th birthday she starts having traveling dreams and learns about a prophecy that claims she will save the clan she is visiting. When she arrives with the clan, Devlin refuses to believe she has innocent intentions and tries to avoid her while keeping an eye out. She sticks to the plan and saves them during a battle against a neighboring clan and her unknown twin sister, and when she does Devlin decides its time for answers. He realizes that he has feeling for Devlin but is unsure of everything. Jami is determined to have her love and be able to save the people she has come to love completely. In the end Jami and Devlin manage to fall in love, but before they can be married Devlin's sister is kidnapped and Devlin leaves to find her. Can't wait to start the next one.

This is a story of magic, the Fae, time travel and romance, four powerful forces. As the heroine of the story, Jami, an ordinary pleasant girl, began experiencing strange happenings. She was turning twenty-five soon, and with only one close friend and her coffee for company, she was very lonely. So, when the strange things began happening, and she was transport to strange places, she was not too worried, in the beginning. However, like everything else, it became more and more strange. Matters came to a head, when everything was revealed to her on her 25th birthday... the day she came into her own, as her mysterious mother reveals to her. Her mother impresses upon her the fact that an entire clan’s future depends on the decision she makes at the exact anniversary of her birth. Things fall into place, when after reciting a chant her mom gave her in a letter, she is transported to 19th century Scotland where she meet, falls in love, and marries Devlin, a Scottish Laird. This is a whimsical read.

Destiny Finds Her is indeed an apt title for this magical, time travel romance that whisks its heroine Jami away to nineteenth-century Scotland! Initially in the novel, the beleaguered heroine Jami has long given up the idea of "destiny" in her job as a reviewer in publishing. That is, until her 25th birthday when she reads a mysterious letter and recites the chant within. A magical tattoo surfaces on her skin that bestows unusual powers, and soon Jami is transported back in time to her clan in nineteenth-century Scotland--and into the sphere of the dashing Devlin. There's a catch, however (isn't there always in the most riveting books?), and Jami discovers that she's the only one who can save her clan's future. What I found the most delightful is watching Jami come into her own and take action over her "destiny" as well as come to believe in the enchantment that surrounds her family. Love, romance, adventure, and time travel--these are the elements that are well balanced and make Destiny Finds Her such an entertaining read.

Great read!

Wow talk about a roller coaster ride. A young woman suddenly learns on her 25th birthday she will learn much that had been hidden from her. Dreams leading up to that day cause her confusion. She keeps traveling to the Scotland of old. Scared she's losing her mind, she's relieved upon learning she's actually from the past. Her parents placed her in the future with adoptive parents in the hopes of keeping her safe. On her 25th year she learns what and who she really is, her destiny, and possibilities of her power. A magical tattoo appears on her, and certain powers begin to emerge. Once in the past she makes dear friends, and catches the eye of a certain laird. Mystery and magical intrigue commence. It was a fun read, and I look forward to the next in this series.

Unfortunately I had to "DNF" this book at 40%.

Initially I was excited to read this Highlander time travel romance, described as sweet and emotional and a little bit vanilla (clean). Recently, I've been burned out on all the erotica I've been reading lately; so, as they say, I was stoked. Disappointment followed, however, when I failed to connect to any of the characters. A lot of it had to do with my lack of interest in the writing style - a very monotonous, this-happened, then that-happened, then this. Add to that the almost rote details of shoes and clothes and dress up with the gay BFF. Frankly, I was a little bored and found myself skimming whole sections of descriptions of designer label fashions. I guess it's just not my thing.

Sorry, ladies. On to something more my style!

Such a captivating start to this series, I loved every second!

This book has a little bit of everything I love: time travel, fantasy, history, and a great romance with just the right amount of chase. The characters are easy to like and even though this is a shorter story there was plenty of background information to get caught up in. I love the relationship between Jami, our leading lady, and pretty much every other character, each character is perfectly detailed in a way that makes it easy to love them!! Jami has such a great personality and outlook in the bazaar twist her life takes. The author does a great job building up Jami and Devlin's heated relationship making it hard to stop reading, so you can find out what will happen next. I loved this story and cannot wait for more!!

I really enjoyed this book. It has time travel, friendship, romance and a struggle between good and evil. I would really rate this book more 4.5 stars, but goodreads won't let me. In the beginning of the book, I kept thinking Jami was going to travel to Scotland in order to travel back in time. I love Scotland and it's rich history, so I kept waiting for that. However, I can understand why the author didn't take it there. I don't want to give spoilers, so I will just highly recommend that you pick this book up and give it a chance. I am anxiously awaiting the second installment. Well done Miranda.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I am torn about this book. As much as I enjoyed it I had some problems too. Who doesn't believe in destiny? I loved the premise of the book and the traveling back and forth in time and especially loved Todd who somehow just ends up being left behind as Jamie goes on to fulfill her Destiny. By the end of the book I had laughed often out right and really enjoyed myself. I just hope there is more definition and development of the characters they seem like such an interesting blend. I can't wait to see what happens as the series continues.

I won this book as part of a Goodread giveaway. This book was an easy read. However the characters could have been developed more deeply and the ending came too quickly. The suspense could have been held for longer and a more dramatic scene could have been written between the main character and her evil twin.

Earth, wind, and fire, elements of ties that bind.

These elements and the power to control them was given as a birth right to the progeny of a union between a mortal and one of the fae throw in a little time travel with a little sibling rivalry, you get a well written book! Take the plunge and read it!

I just did not love it. The story was okay but I just did not love it. I just did not like how I did not even know Jami's name well into the first chapter. The author tries to do way too much in the story and it makes it hard to follow at times.
