Rate this book
What happens when your dreams collide with reality?

Katie Button doesn’t believe in soulmates. When charismatic Jack Masterson asks her out on a date, despite him being her new boss alongside his more aloof brother, James, she agrees.

But her romantic dreams about a dashing highwayman, heroic gladiator and Tudor lord are becoming more frequent. And, worryingly, they feel real. She remembers every detail, every touch, every kiss. Until she realises the man in her dreams is James.

But Katie doesn’t even like James. And what about Jack, who is whisking her away for sexy mini breaks in the here and now?

Katie knows she needs to put an end to her dreams before they ruin her life. But how?

Lizzie Koch is the brand new author of the romantic comedy, The Adventures of Katie Button, and her second novel, Dreaming of a Happy Ever After, is out May 2017.

She is a fan of romantic comedy novels and movies, loving their feel good factor as they make her smile, laugh and cry. Nothing beats a fun, warm and fuzzy, happy ending.

Lizzie lives in East Sussex with her hubby and teenage son, and their bonkers cat, Indi.

Writers block is solved with chocolate, cake (or chocolate cake!) and long walks along the Sussex coast or forest. When not reading or writing, Lizzie enjoys baking (cakes), blustery beach walks, joining her friends for the pub quiz where they tend to lose badly but they do tend to have the best table picnic, her gorgeous friends, family, cocktails, eating out, binge watching box sets (when she gets her hands on the TV remote) and a wide variety of music.

Katie has dreams with two main recurring characters, Jack and James, it doesn’t matter what period the dream takes place in, James is always the one she’s with, while Jack is always the one who is coming between them.
I like chick-lit, and if the mc is funny all the better. However I also like strong female characters and I don’t mean that they have to be all bad ass and be able to beat up anyone who threatens them or anything, but I do expect them to know their own minds at least. I can’t stand the wishy washy ones. Unfortunately Katie Button is just the sort of confused, motivationless, spineless character that pushes all my annoyance buttons.
I would think that if you’re having dreams with the same theme over and over, especially when before you even meet the objects of these dreams in real life, you’ll at least behave more cautiously? Not Katie, she just throws herself headfirst into a relationship with the baddie of her dreams (I mean this in a most literal sense too), before she realizes the other brother is her actual soulmate (because clearly the recurring dreams weren’t enough of a hint).
She allows Jack to push her around and lie to her because….sex. I can’t really tell what apart from that there is. The ending was as expected and cutesy as one would expect based on the storyline of the rest of the book.
Not a fan of the silliness that is/was Katie.

I was intrgued by the description for this book and was looking forward to reading it. The plot was fun and interesting although it did bother me a little at first that she was with Jack but having dreams about James. I really enjoyed the dream sequences they were detailed, fun and really helped move the story along.

I have to say I kept changing my mind about Katie. One minute I would like her but then she would do something pretty frustrating. This is not necessarily a bad thing as her flaws definitely make her character more believable. James has to be my favourite character he is totally likeable. Some of the romance is missing from a couple of pairings but the story does make up for it.

With it being a shorter story I did finish this book pretty quickly. Even though it isn't exactly perfect my attention was kept throughout.

If you are looking for a quick and light hearted read then look no further!

Four stars from me!

Thank you to Crooked Cat Publishing & Netgalley for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Katie's been having the weirdest dreams. In her dreams, she is always with the same man, but always in a different period of time. Her man is a highwayman one dream and a royal the next. She's always head over heels in love, but something always goes tragically wrong. In her dreams, either she or her man nearly always die.

When Katie meets James, she's astonished because he's literally the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to recognize her. He also doesn't seem to have the same pull on her heart. His brother though... he's definitely someone she can spend some time with.

Will her dreams rule her heart?

Final thoughts: Eh. Just eh. OK to kill some time, but not really worth it. Some of the logic of past lives makes no sense and even the author can't really explain away the fact that two of those lives were only 5 years apart (Titanic and WWI). Her concert dream makes no sense and her reaction makes even less sense. So... eh.

I was looking for a light read to be entertained. And this story was easy to enjoy and to appreciate but a little too plain for my taste.
The main character, Katie, is nice. She has something, a fire inside her, but is depicted as a doormat. So it was difficult to really appreciate her. Even when she doesn't want to stay with a guy, she still sleep with him. Ok...
As for the plot, it was too flat, too even. Would have loved some action. And the romantic part is rushed.
Can't say the story is bad, because you will read it easily, but I will forget it quickly.

Katie Button has been having strange dreams and its not long before she realises that the two brothers, James and Jack who are her new bosses, feature in them. Can she find out what these dreams mean before it's too late?

This was a quick easy read which is what I was looking for at the time. I did get exasperated at Katie and some of her actions, especially when she was working and I can't say I really liked any of the characters.

But it was an easy book to pick up and put down to while away the time.

This is a beautifully light-hearted read. Katie Button is a warm and likeable character.
But as the story develops it becomes more serious.
Has Katie found her soul mate?

This was a really entertaining read. From the outset, I was intrigued and wondered what kind of sub genre it was going to be- time slip, or contemporary with historical flashbacks, or what? Once started the beginning made sense and I found the pace of the novel drew me in really quickly. The dream sequences are just perfectly done- exactly the right amount to interest the reader even more as Katie’s real life and loves become actively awkward. Katie does have a dilemma, though an enviable one when she has to choose between the brothers - Jack and James. Both men have the appeal factor, though very different characters. I loved the use of names in the plot. I always avoid spoilers, though I’d love to tell more of this entertaining story. This is a great summer read but also to be recommended for any time of the year! I’ll be looking out for more from Lizzie Koch.

I had mixed feelings about this book. It had its sweet moments and some funny ones, but overall it was just a little awkward. The flashbacks and Katie's reactions after each one made the book seem far more serious and heavy than I think the book wanted to or could achieve. She was a bit of a doormat in terms of her relationship with Jack, and the relationship with James all came about so quickly in the end. Like I said, it was just awkward.

An Excellent Read

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. You think you know how the story is going to unfold until it twists around, taking another direction entirely. A fabulous feel good romance story.

I highly recommend it to anyone who likes things to turn out right for everyone in the end.

I was not sure what to expect from the title and excerpts. I feel that the story is not as intriguing because there were just awkward scenes in between. At times, sweet moments do make the book likeable but overall it was a little off. The interactions between Katie's dreams and reality are hilarious but there's not much of that to sustain the successful plot and hold it firmly together.

Katie Button keeps having romantic dreams about a dashing man. Except he's the brother of the guy she's dating, AND her new boss.
Could this guy be her soulmate? Her friends think so, and the dreams are so vivid that they feel real...
Katie must find a way to end these dreams, and fast, before they ruin her dream career.
When I first started reading this book, I was so lost. Once I figured out that they were dreams, I was hooked... I couldn't wait to figure out how she was going to be reunited with her eternal soulmate. Koch did a fabulous job!
