Expected 1 Oct 26Healer Fern Caudwell has never set foot in the Evergleam Forest, and for good reason. The last adventurers who braved the forest haven’t returned, and she hasn’t forgotten the rumors she’s heard about the mysterious creatures there that lurk among the trees.
Pixies. Death flowers. A ten-foot tree beast.
Fern is content to live in her remote cottage just outside the colorful woodland with her bird friend, Atley, and her magical berry bush, Stella... Until she stumbles upon an injured man who fled the forest.
Jamison is kind, charming, and keen to forget about his perilous encounter, while Fern is eager to hear more about her patient’s ordeals and learn what secrets the trees might hold.
But when all color begins to drain from the forest, Fern and Jamison fear what this means for the plants and the creatures within. The two venture into the trees seeking answers and quickly learn that they may have to confront their painful pasts and open their hearts in order to save both the forest and themselves.

I’m going to admit it: this book had me at the cover. It is STUNNING. And yes, we’re told not to judge books by their covers, but let’s be real… we absolutely do 😂 Thankfully, the story inside was every bit as whimsical and enchanting as the cover promised.
The Evergleam Forest is the definition of a low-stakes, low-cortisol fantasy. The kind of story that lets you disappear into a magical world without spending the entire time worrying that everyone you love is about to die. It genuinely felt like being wrapped in a warm hug ✨
I loved exploring the Evergleam alongside Fern and Jamison. They're both such gentle, tender characters, not only with each other but with the forest and the creatures they're trying to protect. Their shared care for this world gives the story so much heart.
And then we have Stella and Atley, who were obviously going to win me over immediately. Give me an adorable animal or sentient companion and apparently half the work of earning my affection is already done 😂 I absolutely loved the little group they formed.
My main hesitation was the romance. For roughly the first third of the book, Fern and Jamison's relationship felt entirely platonic to me. There were very few lingering glances, moments of attraction or little sparks to suggest their curiosity about one another might become something more. I genuinely started wondering whether I'd misremembered this being a fantasy romance.
The romantic connection does eventually develop, and Fern and Jamison are incredibly sweet together once it does. I just wish those seeds had been planted earlier. Even a few subtle moments of attraction from their first meetings would have made the progression feel more gradual and given me more of that delicious slow-burn anticipation.
But honestly, the world and atmosphere were what made this book for me. It's whimsical, comforting and wonderfully immersive, with characters who genuinely care about each other and the world around them.
⭐ 4/5 - soft, magical and wonderfully cosy. If you love low-stakes fantasy, enchanting forests, sweet characters and adorable companions, The Evergleam Forest feels like stepping into a warm little pocket of magic🌿✨

Thank you to Ella for having me on her ARC team. I am leaving this review completely for free and of my own thoughts and opinions.
For me, this personally wasn't the match up I hoped it would be, but I think for fellow cozy fantasy lovers this will be a real treat as we head into autumn.
While I appreciated this stories premise and thought that the exploration into grief, self healing and facing the past was an interesting idea, I just struggled to emotionally connect with the way it was explored or with the characters, so it did not have the impact for me that I think would have made this a more enjoyable read.
Fern and Jamison are both very soft and sweet characters, struggling with traumas of their past. And I can definitely see other readers really liking them, but for me, there was just an element missing that I couldn't quite define, potentially it being that they were a bit to passive, that stopped me from connecting with them.
The overall plot was low stakes and kept the story moving, though I would have liked to see a bit more of the forest explored as it was a lot of retreading already covered ground, so the true size never felt clearly defined.
I really liked the whimsy and magical element Stella brought to the story and wish she had been able to be featured even more than she was. She had me smiling everytime she was on page.

Cozy fantasy/romance usually isn't the genre that I find myself drawn to, but the premise of this story seemed so cute that I couldn't resist. Overall, I really enjoyed this story! I think the plot to uncover what was happening to the forest was interesting to follow, and I really liked Fern and Jamison, both separately and together as their romance was developed.
Although I enjoyed the overall plot, there were times where it began to feel a little repetitive in the middle with Fern just going in and out of the forest, but once she and Jamison were committed to going in, that did improve. I won't include spoilers, but I do also wish that the central conflict took a little more time to be solved after they found out what to do, which is what keeps this from being a 5-star read for me. It just felt resolved too quickly all things considered and I was a little bit let down by that, but it definitely doesn't ruin anything for me.
Despite those feelings about the plot, I really enjoyed the character development and the romance development! Their romance may come off as rushed, but I think that's fine with what the two are going through, and they mesh well together. The way Jamison and Fern support each other in working through their past traumas was very sweet, and I'm honestly a big fan of Jamison as a character.

I received this ARC from the author. I started reading it immediately after I received it and I will say that I was so happy to go through journey with the characters. It has a very heartwarming story and is reminiscent of a Ghibli film.
I never knew I would just absolutely fall in love with a lively berry bush and a bird companion in the way that I did. For being characters that can't actually talk, they were full of personality. Stella and Atley, you two are the best companions ever! I even cried at some moments involving those two. Then there is our man Jamison who is the greenest green flag that ever green flagged. I absolutely adore him. The romance that unfolds there is slow but is so rewarding.
The author did an outstanding job creating a fantasy world that made me care about all of the characters. It made me have all of the cozy, warm feelings. I loved this book for that and I'll be on the lookout for future books the author will have to offer. Ella Weaver, thank you so much for the wonderful experience!

This was an endearing, soft fantasy story. It has a lot of heart and healing with both the FMC, Fern, and the MMC, Jamison. They are both characters with a hurtful past and it takes them a bit to open up, however they were both kind and understanding with each other from the beginning. It was a tender story, and I enjoyed it. I would loved a bit more action to really tie everything together but it was a true cozy romantic fantasy story. The romance unfolds pretty slow but it’s very satisfying. Stella was my favorite, such a gem! This is perfect for reader looking for a cozy fantasy story with a green flag MMC.

3.5 stars for The Evergleam Forest. This is a perfect book for readers that enjoy low stakes, cozy fantasy. It was a very fast read for me. I probably enjoy a little more depth and world building in my fantasies, but I enjoyed it regardless. It was sweet, whimsical and had wonderful charming sentient plants. It was a cute and whimsical story with a touch of mystery.
The animal and plant companions are top tier and really really amazing. The characters are good.
However, the book didn't really hook me. It was just not really exciting for me in some parts.

This was a lovely cosy little read. Low stakes, it's nice to read a book where your stress levels aren't going through the roof for a change! Perfect for the upcoming cosy season ☺️
