Beneath the quiet expanse of forgotten skies, a young poet navigates the turbulence of love, longing, and self-discovery. From fleeting crushes and unspoken desires to heartbreak, yearning, and the fleeting joys of friendship, each moment is captured with the intensity of admiration and the melancholy of things lost.
Through the progression of prose, poetry, reflections, and tender memories, he explores the intricate ambivalence of attraction, rejection, and acceptance, learning that love is as much about courage as it is about vulnerability.
Let Me Breathe Beneath The Forgotten Sky is a lyrical journey, an experiment, an avant-garde exploration of desire, grief, and the enduring hope of finding connection in a world that often seems indifferent.
It’s quite amazing, really, how this book tells a good story through a series of interconnected poems. Each entry circles around admiration, unrequited love, anger, sadness, forgiveness, and the yearning to be noticed the way they always dreamed of, all while staying rooted in an undergraduate setting. Mundane school activities and everyday interactions are painted beautifully in words and rhymes.
Baklang-bakla rin ang feels. Super relate on the feeling of being confused about how some guys treat us gays: was it ever romantic ba, or was he just tripping? And on finding any sign, however small, that they might actually like us back.
The book covers so much that I can’t discuss it all in one review. But if I had to sum it up, it’s about pouring all that love onto the page and immortalizing it in poetry, because the page is the only place it can live. Better that than bottling it up until it suffocates. And still, there’s a quiet hope that the person it was written for will read it someday, even if they’re not much of a reader. That’s the irony, and the tragedy. Writing beautiful poems for someone who may never appreciate them.
