জাফর আলম উর্দু ও হিন্দি কথাসাহিত্যের প্রথিতযশা বাংলা অনুবাদক। তাঁর জন্ম ১৯৪৩ সালে কক্সবাজার জেলায়।

জাফর আলম পেশাগত জীবন শুরু করেন সাংবাদিকতা দিয়ে। তিনি সাপ্তাহিক পূর্বদেশ, দৈনিক সংবাদ ও পাকিস্তান অবজারভার-এ (বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশ অবজারভার) বগুড়া জেলার সংবাদাতা হিসেবে কাজ করেন। ১৯৬৪ সালে দৈনিক পাকিস্তান-এ (বর্তমানে দৈনিক বাংলা) সহ-সম্পাদক হিসেবে, পরবর্তীতে দৈনিক জনপদ-এ সিনিয়র সহ-সম্পাদক হিসেবে সাংবাদিকতা করেছেন। পরে ১৯৭৫ সালে তথ্য অধিদপ্তরে যোগদান করেন। ২০০১ সালে তিনি উপপ্রধান তথ্য অফিসার হিসেবে অবসরগ্রহণ করেন।

অনুবাদক হিসেবে জাফর আলম বাংলা একাডেমি পুরস্কার ও একুশে পদকে ভূষিত হন। ২০২০ সালের ২০ জুন তিনি ঢাকায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেন।
