A sniper wreaks havoc on the Fourth of July in Charlotte, shooting into a crowd gathered for a concert in a park. At the same time and only yards away, a second shooter kills a retired, decorated military office. The FBI is sure the shootings are a joint venture, carefully planned out. However, Homicide Detective Chris Lagoni is determined to prove his own theory: that the attacks are unrelated. Before he can, he must gain the cooperation of his suspect, Megan Moore, to lead him to the second shooter. Lagoni wants to believe she has no knowledge of the crime, but her actions and her words say very different things. Will she finally help him sabotage the case and his career? It's a risk he must take, especially since she has captured his heart. The police and FBI are in a race against time to fine the shooters and prevent a bigger attack that could claim even more victims.
Susan Mills Wilson is a North Carolina native who turns her Southern roots into gritty, fast-paced stories of mystery and suspense. She writes about flawed characters, shady motives, and justice that doesn’t always follow the rules. Her signature style blends the sharp edge of police procedurals with the raw grit of hard-boiled detective fiction—and just enough romance to keep things interesting. In addition to her Colt Jessup series, she’s the author of six standalone suspense novels. Find out more at www.authorsusanmillswilson.com
Meltdown is a crime suspense with some romance. The action is nonstop as Chris and Nick work to help the police ,and FBI find a sniper who fired at random killing and injuring numerous people at a Independence Day celebration. But that isn't the only person they are looking for a second murder had happened at the same time. When Chris finds a lead for the one killer he almost goes rogue determined Calhoun, the agent in charge of the FBI, has everything wrong. When he meets a beautiful woman who drives him crazy Chris's actions may cost him his job. I really enjoyed getting to know Chris and Nick and hope there will be more books with them in it. Megan and Sam are are a great addition to the story and my heart really went out to Sam and I was glad that he was able to get help. I deducted one star as there is quite a bit of bad language and some not in explicit sex and I'm not one that thinks it is necessary for a book to be great. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher but I was not asked for anything in return. This review is totally my own opinion of this book.
Fast paced and interesting from the first page, this thriller takes place over just a few days, covering two different crimes that occur at the same place and the same time, but aren’t connected. Or are they? A story that could have been ripped from the headlines. Snipers shooting at a 4th of July festivity and the reaction by the various police and FBI personnel. Conflicts between the two agencies create some interesting scenes while the actual shooters try and escape. I enjoyed this book very much and appreciate the fact that I was chosen for an Advance Reader's Copy.
I received this book from the author in a drawing on her web site in exchange of an honest review. This book was even more harrowing due to current event, like El Paso Texas. Was reading when it happened! Made the book more heartfelt. This is an excellent book, well written characters to love, and lightening speed. Well worth reading!
This is the first book I have read written by Susan Mills Wilson. It will not be the last. This is a page turner from beginning to end. I could not put it down. Explosive with a little bit of romance. Ms. Wilson now has a fan for life. I cannot wait to read more of her work.
This thoroughly satisfying adult read was so good it moved from my bedside stack to the also-carry- with-me tote, so I could finish it in a week. Probably could be read in less than a full weekend. I was given a paperback and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
Fast paced and interesting from the first page, this thriller takes place over just a few days, covering two different crimes that occur at the same place and the same time, but aren’t connected. Or are they? And is the beautiful Megan innocent or is it a ruse? Meltdown covers the FBI and police investigations, trying to track down the suspects before one of them strikes again. Much of it happens through the eyes of Homicide Detective Chris Lagoni, who doesn’t deal well with the hierarchy and politics of his job. One of my favorite witty dialogue lines, directed toward Megan when she is meditating: “Maybe it would help your inner peace situation if you just came clean.” I don’t know if the author is a war veteran or a former detective, but she certainly knows her stuff.
A story that could have been ripped from the headlines. Snipers shooting at a 4th of July festivity and the reaction by the various police and FBI personnel. Conflicts between the two agencies create some interesting scenes while the actual shooters try and escape. There is romance between an unlikely couple, corruption at a corporate level, tension as the hunt continues and a good ending. I enjoyed this book very much and appreciate the fact that I was chosen for an Advance Reader's Copy. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a fast paced thriller.
