A Sliding Doors moment in a bucket list destination.
Runaway is a second chance, forced proximity, small town romance perfect for fans of Sarah Adams and B. K. Borison.

has more emotional baggage than one should accumulate by thirty one. He is plowing through life like a robot determined to get to the other side of something, anything. After all, he is still sporting the scars from the only time he let his heart lead.

Avena is taking a breather from romance. It’s more than needed after she cut ties with her mistake of an ex-fiancé and barely made it through the only fling she's ever entertained.

When they each walk into a glass filled conference room its with a sense of determination. Milan to fulfill an unexpected inheritance and legacy from his estranged father and Avena hell bent on reminding the people of Bombury Island that she is the best person to run its crowning jewel.

The first time their lives collided it was with unrestrained fireworks. Now Avena and Milan are forced to work in criminally uncomfortable proximity as they each try and fail to ignore the shadow of their past. Once again they find the depth of their connection is impossible to deny and when Avena faces a crisis that threatens to blow up her future, its Milan she turns to.

With betrayal standing in the way, can they uncover where it all went wrong?

Bombury Island: Milan & Avena

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The start of a new series, and what a way to kick it off!
I’ll be honest, it took me a little while to get into this one, but once I warmed up to Milan and Avena, I was invested. Their story unfolds through the present with flashbacks filling in the gaps, and I was slowly putting the pieces together about what caused their separation.
And I REALLY wanted to be wrong, because it ended up being angsty…
Unfortunately, around the 30% mark, I started to realise I was probably right.

Milan… sir. I understood his hurt and, on principle, I could understand some of his thinking, but the man was practically an Olympic gold medallist in jumping to conclusions.
And those “if only…” thoughts had me wanting to shake him because there was so much more going on than he realised.

Then that twist! I genuinely didn’t see it coming, and honestly, all I wanted was for Avena to finally catch a break.

The author says that there is a real Sliding Doors feel to this… second chances, forced proximity, old wounds, and two people trying to figure out where everything went wrong. I would agree, and it took me a little bit to settle into the story, but by the end, I was definitely emotionally invested.

I’m very curious to see where the Bombury Island series goes from here! Maverick next!

Please check the content warnings before reading, as this book touches on some heavier themes.

Thanks, Elle, for the opportunity to be an early reader.
