Trouble follows me, Lexi Carmichael, like a little black cloud. At least according to my boyfriend, brilliant hacker, national treasure and vault of secrets. Even I have to admit he could be right.
After a series of high-profile cases at my cyberintelligence firm, I was looking forward to a simple job. All I had to do was personally deliver a revolutionary microchip to a manufacturing plant in Indonesia. Easy, right?
Wrong.
Someone else wants the design and is willing to kill to get it. A failed hijacking attempt lands me, my best friend Basia and our boss, Finn, in the middle of the jungle. Our mission is protect the microchip design from the hijackers on our tail...and survive. But how can a geek girl like me survive without access to my beloved technology?
I’m about to find out.

No Room for Error by Julie Moffett Lexi Carmichael mystery series #7. STEM. Best read in series order. Lexi is asked to escort brand new technology to Indonesia. Her boss, Finn and best friend Basia, accompany Lexi along with special security to keep everyone safe. But they didn’t anticipate a hijacking of their plane and crashing into the middle of a jungle. Now it’s a race to survive the jungle verses espionage.
Trouble follows wherever Lexi goes but traipsing through a jungle after surviving a plane crash? That’s a bit extreme. And on heals for Basia! High octane tension as the trio beats the odds over and over. A fun adventure. I can’t wait to see what happens next to this group.
“They (the canoes) looked about as stable as Windows 98.”
This is the seventh book in the Lexi Carmichael mystery series by Julie Moffett.
As with all Lexi Carmichael mysteries, this was as over-the-top and action-filled as ever! It was a great ride to watch unfold. This is one of my favorite series since there is always one surprise after another awaiting me.
In this installment, Lexi gets assigned to take a ground breaking microchip to a place in Europe but before she gets there the plane is hijacked by insiders and crashes in the jungle. Somehow Lexi, her bestie Basia and boss Finn manage to survive but have to use all their knowledge and knowhow and help of a friendly native to get themselves to safety.
The thing I like about this series is that Lexi doesn’t come out of these encounters unscathed. She has a broken cheekbone or jaw for a lot of this and walks around with black eyes and dirt crusted on her face just to keep the bugs away.
As soon as you finish this one you are assured to want to start book eight. Just an overall wonderful series by Moffett.
If you love a good cozy mystery, you need to pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed. I was hooked all the way through. Good stuff!
Can it possibly be better than the others? It probably isn't really; it just seems that way because No Room for Error is the book I just finished. Whether it better or just as good, it is one excellent book in an outstanding series. Each books seems to get more exciting, Lexi's relationship with Slash grows as does her confidence, and we get to see Basia's strength and intelligence stand out more and more; those elements all add to my love for this book. One of the many strengths of Ms. Moffet's writing is that she allows every character to make an impact on the plots in this series. I adore the twins. As for Finn, what can I say...love him almost as much as I love Slash. The only bad thing about reading one of the Lexi Carmichael mysteries is that it is so hard to wait for the next one. Thank goodness the books do NOT end in a cliffhanger!
I've never read a Lexi Carmichael mystery before but I'm from Papua New Guinea, where this one is partly set, so I couldn't resist. I loved it. A hair-raising ride with stacks of adventure, a little romance and a kick-ass heroine. Would definitely recommend.
Lexi Carmichael is still coming down from her last adventure, and she is enjoying her time with her boyfriend, the sexy and mysterious Slash. Both are talented hackers, but while Lexi works for a private investigation and security company, Slash works for the NAS. When Lexi is asked to take on a new mission, which concerns a major advance in technology and an invention by two of her friends, the Zimmerman twins, of course, she agrees. This case will take Lexi, her best friend Basia, and her boss, Finn, into another country to safeguard the invention and the manufacturing of it.
Lexi and Slash have a couple of close calls just before she leaves, but it’s unsure just who was the target. Lexi and everyone take off as scheduled, but that is the last thing that goes as expected. First, they are hijacked, then they crash, are hunted through a jungle, and then they are kidnapped. Through it all, Lexi keeps everyone going with the deep knowledge and belief that the Zimmerman twins and Slash will be tracking them down and will get them out. It’s certainly not a cakewalk, but Lexi is not going to let this invention get into the wrong hands, nor is she going to let anyone harm her friends. Just before she left, Slash teased Lexi that she had a dark cloud that followed her, but she knows that he is the bright lining in her dark cloud, if there is one. It appears that the good team has finally won, and they will all be safe now, or will even more betrayal be the final end of Lexi’s adventures and her love of Slash?
A self-proclaimed geek girl has yet another adventure in which she must put her wits against those who are trying to defeat her. Only this time, there is no computer or laptop helping Lexi win the day. Instead, she, Basha, and Finn must use their wits to stay one step ahead of those hunting them, while knowing that technology is helping those looking for them to bring them home safely. I have loved Lexi from her first appearance, but this is the first time I have seen her have to win without the use of any computer. It only showed me just how much she has grown and learned to trust her confidence when challenged. I loved watching how this journey progressed, and I have to admit I was putting as much faith in Slash and the Zimmerman twins as Lexi was as the pages were turned.
No Room for Error is an action-packed adventure, which really does pit good against evil. If you are anything like me, you will find yourself cheering and rooting for Lexi and her friends and cursing those looking to harm them. I also must admit that I loved the depth of love and trust that grows between Lexi and Slash by the time the last page is turned. I also admit to laughing as Lexi finds herself in yet another situation, but this one born of the love of her best friend. I can’t wait to see how this will turn out. No Room for Error is a must-read for any Lexi lovers.
Probably more like 3.5 stars. Definitely not my favorite in the series but still enjoyable overall. I still love Lexi and look forward to more books in the series. I honestly had a hard time getting into this book which surprised me because I usually love this series. I found the first 30% a little slow with way too much focus on Lexi and Slash's relationship. I like them together but he seems a little too possessive at times and something with him feels a little "off". Maybe it's because he's so secretive and with the developments in this book maybe that will change going forward. The "action" doesn't really start until about 30% in and then the book moves rather quickly. Another serious storyline, a bit on the "dark" side. I'd like to see more of the funny, quirky, "lighter" stories like in the earlier part of the series.
I have enjoyed the Lexi Carmichael series so far. However, I was disappointed that this book seemed to have more sensual talk and scenes than the others in this series.
Wow! Action packed doesn’t even describe this installment. Lexi is at it again! In charge of the Zimmerman’s invention puts her, Basia, and Finn in danger. Love this series!
Lexi works for X-Corp, an intelligence and security company. She has been dating Slash, a government agent and fellow hacker, for a while. For the first time ever, they are in love ... Slash is the first boyfriend geeky Lexi has had and Lexi is the first woman Slash has let get close to him.
Lexi's friends, the Zimmerman twins, have invented something that will revolutionize the computer industry. They are still recovering from their injuries, though, from No Woman Left Behind so ask Lexi to take it to Indonesia where it will be manufactured. Lexi, best friend, Basia, who also works for X-Corp, along with their boss, Finn, agree too take it. Before they leave, there are a couple abduction attempts on Lexi so Slash is also going to go (but on a different flight).
During the flight, there is a hijacking attempt and Lexi, Basia and Finn are force to flee through the jungle after their plane crashes. They don't know who to trust, obviously have never had to survive in the jungle and just keep hoping the good guys will find them before the bad guys do.
Though this is the seventh in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background. I've liked the series and thought this book was just okay (I've enjoyed some of the others more). I liked the writing style and there was some humour. It's pretty far-fetched, though ... I had a hard time believing that geeky Lexi is now running for her life through the jungle.
It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view. I found there was a lot of focus on Lexi and Slash's relationship. Instead of going with the flow, Lexi is researching and trying to hard to be the perfect girlfriend (she doesn't have the experience to know how). I liked Slash better before he and Lexi got together. Now I find him a bit too possessive and controlling and all they seem to think about (and partake in) is sex. I miss the geeky Lexi, Elvis and Xavier.
So not my favourite in the series but I look forward to Lexi's future adventures.
OH MY GAWD, LEXI! Given the situations you stumble into with alarming regularity, someone (Slash) needs to lock you in a room no one knows about for your own protection. Oh, hey. Doesn't he have one of those conveniently stashed away somewhere? Good times, man. Good times.
But seriously, Lexi is in the middle of another dangerous situation and this time she doesn't have any of her high tech gadgets to help her out. Which means she and her friends are struggling to survive with only their wits and some well-times allies they meet on the way. Did I mention they have some pretty gnarly injuries while going head to head with the people hunting them down? Because they do. Really, no trek through the jungle is complete without a life-threatening injury or two.
Basically, I'm trying to say that everything Lexi learned from dealing with cyber terrorists and lending a helping hand during a SEAL mission comes in handy this time around. She not only has to save her own life, but those of her best friend and boss as well. And with nothing to rely on but their wits and good looks (questionable good looks, actually, given the extent of their injuries), things get mighty hairy.
I get a major kick out of Lexi and her lack of social skills. She's smart and quick on her feet, but she's not so great at reading people and she tends to stumble into awkward social situations about as often as she stumbles into danger. Which is awesome to read.
I have been a fan of the series for a very long time. It is one of my very favorites because Lexi always cracks me up . Her research topics certainly are amusing , and this time, she completely outdoes herself . I was laughing out loud like crazy. I also like this book because Lexi and Slash end up taking their relationship a bit deeper and opening up so much more . I completely love Slash in this book.
So the story starts off with Lexi taking a job doing a favor for her friends the twins. The twins have invented some new technology which Lexi believes to be world changing. However, neither of the twins is healthy enough to travel to oversee the initial manufacturing of their technology . They opt to send Lexi in their place. Finn and Basia are tapped to go along on the trip and help deliver the technology which has been ensconced in an "indestructible" case. Unfortunately, as Lexi's luck would have it, nothing is ever that easy. The private plane carrying Lexi and her friends is hijacked and then crashed in the remote jungles of Papua New Guinea. With no way to contact anyone and no technology at their fingertips , Lexi and her friends must fight to survive . I love the way Lexi develops in the story. She finally finds out how tough she actually is , even without a computer. The story was nonstop action , but even had a few of the trademark Lexi laughs. The ending was super sweet , and it made me love Slash even more than I did. I truly cannot wait to read more of this series!
I loved this book! This is one of my favorite series and this book is a great addition to it. Lexi is a computer geek that is pressed into service helping her friends with an invention of theirs. This involves an international trip, but nothing goes as planned.....at least not as Lexi had planned. She and her friends find themselves far outside their comfort zone and must adapt creatively to frequently changing circumstances.
This series is just the right blend of mystery, humor, and a bit of romance. One thing I really enjoy in this series is that Lexi is a smart heroine. She is socially awkward, but keeps putting herself out there and never stops trying. In this book, her perseverance creates some entertaining moments with her boyfriend, Slash.....and we might finally have some insight into his real name.
If you like smart chick lit, you will love this book. It is a stand alone novel, but you really owe it to yourself to read them all.
I have read every single Lexi Carmichael Mystery and loved almost every single one so when I got the chance to read No Room For Error I couldn't wait. However something about this book just didn't hit the right spot for me. I can't put my finger on it but I just couldn't seem to get into the book until Lexi and her friends find themselves in a plan crash even than something just didn't jive.
Don't get me wrong there are some great scenes in this book that will have Lexi fans laughing and we finally get to know Basia better and Finn is Finn. As the book came to an end it felt like the author realized she was coming up on her word count and needed to tie up loose ends fast.
Lexi and Slash's relationships still continues to develop thank heavens the author didn't allow it to go stale as so many other authors have.
Great Series! This is a great series; this is the seventh book in the Lexi Carmichael Mystery series by Julie Moffett. This book can be read as a standalone, but you will probably want to go back and read the others, like I want to. Lexi Carmichael seems to find herself in trouble everywhere she goes. Lexi is a whiz with computers and works for a cyber-intelligence firm. When her great friends ‘the twins” ask her to personally deliver a revolutionary microchip to a manufacturing plant in Indonesia, since they are not healthy enough to travel. During the flight Lexi, Basia and her bosses plane gets hijacked. If you are looking for a great mystery with suspense and humor then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
There were parts that were 5s. Once Lexi got on the plane, I was vested. I stumbled a bit after the plane when down and they super-humaned on. From book one, that's been my favorite thing about Moffatt's writing. She makes impossible scenarios and her characters do the impossible but she's keeps it real. This time, not so much. They weren't just wounded, they were really wounded and I'm not sure I bought their super-humanness. I still, though, devoured every word :) It is fiction.
That being said, I liked the jungle scene. It made me want to research New Guiana and just how remote some of the areas areas are. I loved Basia and the shoe snake. LOL
I'm not sure if Elvis is out of the picture, at least in Elvis's opinion.
Also, I so did not need the Fifty Shades of Grey interludes. They made me think less of Lexi.
And, yes, I'll buy the next in the series today because this is a most awesome series.
Lexi is enjoying her relationship with sexy Slash but realizes he is still keeping so much from her. He does open up to her bit by bit. After a kidnapping attempt in New York Lexi gets her own security detail. She is asked by the company of the Zimmerman twins to bring a new developed chip to Indonesia, but then the plane is hijacked and crashes. Lexi, her friend Basia and her boss Finn are on their own in the jungle of Papoea New Guinea. No Wifi, Google or phones and the bad guys are everywhere....
Read it in a couple of hours and it is as wonderful as the others. Great research. And I enjoy the fact that Lexi and Slash are growing in their relationship, as well as Basia and Xavier. Very well done.
Julie Moffett has done it again! The newest book in the Lexi series is fantastic. Somehow Moffett manages to make her books interesting, action packed and maintain a romance angle without it overpowering the storyline. In this book, we get to see Lexi's and Slash's relationship continue to develop, but it takes a backseat (which is good IMHO) to the adventure she gets into with Finn and Basia. I love how all of the supporting character's continue to grow and develop as well and it's not all just about Lexi. I'm not going to spoil much of the storyline because it's just so enjoyable to watch it unfold in the book. Enjoy!
This book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Lexi and her little band of refugees are spectacularly unique, and I love the geeky intellectual way she analyzes every situation. She is incredibly resourceful in the wild despite having two left feet, and an almost crippling fear of the water. Lexi’s ability to annihilate an entire band of hackers all on her own is not exactly useful in the jungle, but she is a fighter through and through. This cast of characters are wonderfully awkward, lovingly quirky, and more fun than should be possible in one story! Lototy Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More
This series is always just so sweet. Lexi & Slash make a cute couple and I especially liked how in this book they worked on getting closer and opening up to each other more ... you know acting like a normal boyfriend and girlfriend? Not sure what the author will do with Elvis ... I hope she finds him a great love like she did with his brother. As cute as a couple Elvis and Lexi would make, I think that them being friends is so much better. One of the best things I love about this series is the amount of geekiness it encompasses--Lexi and her skills are great and I just have aweakness for super smartpeople--especially the ones dealing with techie stuff.
While I honestly love this book and it's definitely five stars it gets a little out there at times but that's okay I like it.
The best thing about this series and I cross my fingers and pray it doesn't change is that Lexi and Slash are a team. There's no love triangles or lengthy break ups or cliff hangers that quite frankly piss me off. Just two people who love each other and are willing to fight to stay together. The world needs more of that.
So THANK YOU Julie Moffett for bringing that.
I'm rather lost now that I've finished the series. I can't wait till the next book comes out!
I love this series but I would not compare to the Stephanie plum novels although it is quite humorous but I love watching lexi grow as a person she is so refreshing and I can relate to being socially awkward the author keeps the storyline fresh and smart as far as the romance department was a bit of a surprise but as these characters grow you see why they work well together and are good for each other haven't meet a couple I like this much since the j.d. robb novels if ur looking for a refreshing new series to read I think u will be entertained and there are some really laugh out loud moments can't wait for the next book.
This series is so refreshing. Lexi is a normal computer geek who happens to be female. She is not a superhero or a femme fatale. She is Lexi. Sure, she has near photographic memory, and knows the insides of any computing device you might care to mention, but she is still a person, with ordinary fears and goals. She is not obsessed with shoes or makeup. She does not think of herself as (or try to be) beautiful. If I had read this series sooner, I might have named my daughter after her. I am counting the days to the next book.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book and continue to love the series. I liked the focus on Lexi and Basia as they struggle to survive in the jungle after a plane crash. We learned a lot more of the two of them and also about Lexi as she realizes she's much more than just a computer Geek. And the ending was fantastic where we learn much more about Slash's backstory.....
The only bad thing about this book? I now have just ONE left and I've read the entire series to date! Do I immediately read it or pace myself? Eh, why bother....heading to Amazon to download it now.
After the first page of the first book, I realized this was going to read like a carbon copy of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. It's basically the same blueprint, so similar in some cases that I nearly put it down. But I still couldn't help but get pulled in. These books are quick, entertaining reads. I made it through all seven books in a week. I'll read the eighth when it comes out in the fall.
I tried to take little bites of this book, to make it last the six months until the next book in the series came out, but from the moment they crash landed in Papua New Guinea, I couldn't put the book down. Lexi is funny, smart as a whip, and adaptable to even the worst situations. I loved reading about her out of her element. Her relationship with Slash makes me gooey every time. Can I have a Slash?
When you think of computer programmer, you will think of chips and all other technical jargons that will make you fall asleep faster than sleeping pills. But this one, no! This one will take you on an adventure that you will wish you know about their chips and bits and other jargons.
This action-packed book will definitely become one of your favorites and Lexi Carmichael one of your favorite characters!!!
Like all the Lexi Carmichael mysteries, this book has a fast pace and is rich with heartfelt situations reminding us of the best and worst of humanity. What really makes these books special is the absolutely laugh-out-loud situations the heroine finds herself in. As someone who also has crazy things happen I know that these are not overly exaggerated. Read and enjoy!
I love Lexi Carmichael but this book didn't do it for me. It was a good adventure and all the characters were involved but I prefer more geekiness and keyboard action. She grows in this story and finds out that she can do more then she ever imagined but....more geek please. I was happy that her relationship with Slash takes a new turn and will wait for book 8 with anticipation.
Lexi Carmichael is back along with her crew & hunky, mysterious, badass lover Slash. I won't summarize as the author does a great job (read above synopsis). I will say this book does not disappoint! The book is action packed & at times terrifying. Yet there is humor & romance, too. A wonderful addition to an amazing series!!!
