More or less a collection of hotels, restaurants and shops that have appeared in monocle magazine before. I never know exactly who the monocle audience is - but you can expect things to be more expensive than usual and bias towards European taste. There’s no recommendation to see a knicks game or walk around Coney Island.
Bad if you are on a budget or want to explore lesser known, more authentic places. There’s always a risk with a guide like this that if you follow it too closely you will miss genuinely really interesting things. So cherry pick a few things from each section and you’ve got a good start.
I was able to find a few bars, restaurants, bakeries, shops that I’d never heard of and I thought the ‘walks’ section is a fun, helpful addition. I like this guide because it assumes you know what you are doing and doesn’t waste time with the absolute basics. Like all guides bound to go out of date in a few years time. Quite a few typos and basic mistakes in the print too.
