In this delightful and silly story written and illustrated by Jeremy Billups you'll get to meet a bear with a beard and tag along as he becomes rich and famous, wins beard-wrestling matches, gets knighted by a queen and meets other animals from all over the world with their very own beards. How long is this bear's beard? Are there really other animals with beards? And what exactly is this bear keeping tucked away in his beard? This picture book about kindness is perfect as a children's bedtime story and for fans of humorous books that encourage imagination and play such as Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Sciezka and Lane Smith, and Oliver Jeffers' Stuck, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, Lost and Found, and This Moose Belongs to Me.

A cute story of a young girl narrating about her friend that is a bearded bear. This children story book teaches that there's nothing wrong with being unique, and that everyone should treat them with respect and kindness. The power of imagination was also addressed in this short and adorable book that young readers will also loved.

Ah, yes. Children's picture books with rhyming schemes - my guilty pleasure.

In this lovely, little book a little girl's bear has a beard! This bear is quite the wild guy, he even beats up Santa Claus! He was knighted by a queen (not the Queen, because... you know, she's busy). He gets into many shenanigans, has many friends and seems like quite the interesting character!

I would use this book for educational purposes - learning how to pronounce words or say longer sentences. It's not the most thematically interesting book but it sure is fun! I can honestly say I had a fun time and giggled a bit while reading it. My reading buddies back in the day would have loved this book! It's truly a delight.

The illustrations are cute and simple. They only take up about one third of the page and are easy to follow. The colours are bright enough to pull your attention but not overly wild to keep your attention away from the story.

Three out of five stars!

I found this book for free on Bookbub.

This came up yesterday on my Amazon BookHub e-book deals. I instantly downloaded it because it looked so adorable. I read it with my sister and was delighted to find out what an adorable story this really is. Bearded will make you smile and laugh, it's a children's book I would most definitely recommend to any child. It reminded me of my papa who passed away in 2008, which brought a beautiful tear to my eye. Great job, Jeremy Billups, this book is endearing. The illustrations are so adorable as well!

The drawings were adorable and I think children would love it. The style reminds me of 3 Bare Bears on Cartoon Network.
This is about a bear with a huge and very long beard. Bears don’t really get these, but it’s still really cute. You do meet some actual bearded animals in the book, though.
It kinda sends out the message ... don’t be afraid of bears or beards. I’m not sure if that’s good. Cute with some things to learn, but perhaps with another ending. :)

Cute, rhyming tale of a girl and a bearded bear, and all the other hairy critters they encounter.

This is the cover of the Kindle version I read:

Also - the book is a scant 19 pages, NOT the 40 that are listed.

I loved this little book about a girl with a friend who is a bearded bear! The illustrations are so cute and the story is adorable. It teaches that it's okay to be unique and that we can be loved for our uniqueness. Great little story!

This is a bizarre little picture book. Okay, the bear has a beard. Why? I have no idea. He's got lots of friends with beards, and those beards make sense. But, for some reason, the bear has a long beard that he stores stuff in.

This probably would've worked better for me if the meter had been better. It's just so off. If I tried to read this aloud, I'd be stumbling over the words the whole time. I love rhyming picture books when they're done well. But they need to flow. This one doesn't.

Kids might get a giggle out of the premise. But I wouldn't recommend trying to read this one aloud.

I've given this two stars for the cute illustrations, but that is as far as I'll go. The author's poetry was clunky and difficult to follow, and I didn't find the storyline at all engaging. Young children with bearded family members might enjoy the story, but it didn't appeal to me.

Cute story

Very short, cute story. Don't judge animals who have beards. The art was also very simple and adorable :). Totally gonna read this with my niece!

Read to my 4 year old son. Didn't really hold his attention. Cover art cute but Illustrations in book are very small. But he did keep pointing out, that the bear has a big beard just like daddy! Lol.

Wow! Surprised the kids wanted to read it the next time we read. I guess that means it's a good book!
--------------------
Of the free children's books I've read with kids over Zoom so far, this has easily been my favorite.

Bearded: A Very Hairy Children's Book is a cute story about acceptance and not judging others, told by a little girl with a pet bear. Her bear has a long beard, and through this story the girl introduces the bear and helps him to be accepted among other people and bearded animals.

I regret to say I neglected to use any of the talks about acceptance in this story when working with the kids this morning. If I had actually bothered to lesson plan, we might have been able to talk about this or create something that might symbolize their own insecurities, just like a bear with a beard.

I am glad I read this and will keep it in mind for my future classroom.

Picture books about bears are everywhere -- I have a hard time believing many kids get out of the picture book stage without exposure to at least 4 of them (and that's before they're at the Pooh or Paddington stage). But how many of those bears have been bearded?

Enter Jeremy Billups and his little book.

This is the story of a little red-haired girl (no, not that one) traveling the world with her bearded bear, having all sorts of adventures and meeting a bunch of different animals. There really isn't a lesson, moral or much of a plot -- just a bunch of quick looks at the pair. A few quick lines and a picture on each pair of pages.

The art is simple and arresting. They just pop off the page -- this is one of those times I wish I had the necessary vocabulary to describe why I like the drawings, but I don't. I bought a print of what turns ot to be page 16 before I even picked up the book to flip through. I've bought a handful of prints this year, and it's my absolute favorite -- I like it even more now that I've read the book. Also, If you ever see a better picture of someone making buffalo wings, I'll eat my hat.

Oh, and the endorsements on the back cover are a lot of fun. If that doesn't convince you to try it out, I can't imagine what will.

Great art, cute story, fun rhymes -- everything you want in a picture book. Even better -- animals with beards are the best animals that aren't dogs. This is a charming little book that's sure to please.

Summary:
This story is about a bear with a quite abnormal beard. I mean first of all what bears have beards?! Everywhere the bear goes people stop to show their appreciation towards him for representing people with beards. But what's so great about having a beard? Well you'll definitely have to read to find out but one of the great things is getting to meet all his fellow bearded creatures. You mean there's more bearded animals out there?! You betcha, there are bearded dragons, buffalo, and other neat creatures. This is a great story that illustrates how its okay to be unique and different theirs more than likely someone out there that can share their uniqueness with yours.
Activity:
A great way to tie this book into the classroom would be to show the students the cover of the book and have them write a short paragraph guessing what they think the book is going to be about. And then draw the beard on who they think the main character is going to be. Did anyone in the classroom draw a picture of a bear with a beard? Or did they just draw a person with a beard? This teaches students to not judge a book by it's cover and that sometimes we don't really know what lies behind people.

Bearded
3.5/5 stars

I just got this ebook for free and since I'm terribly behind on the amount of books and this looked very short and easy I decided to pick it up. It also looked really fun. It was all of those things!

I'll admit, this isn't one of those children's books that gives you some deep philosophical meaning of life, but it was precious, the art was to die for. And just oh my gosh the amount of adorableness and how proud the little girl looked of her bearded bear.

Overall :

The story wasn't enough for me to drop a ton of money of a physical copy, but I still wouldn't mind owning it because of the art.

She loves her bear with whiskers. He is also the Beard-Wrestling Champ in nine places. This is a very cute story with cute pictures. There's always a bearded animal that finds them as they travel. There was even a bearded dragon named Jon who saved them down under. How would you look in a beard? The rhyming in this story helps bring smiles to all faces. Can you see smiles through a beard? This is a great read aloud story booK that all kids should love.
I borrowed this book on a Kindle Unlimited website and so can you.

Cute picture book

This story was adorable, about a little girl and her bearded bear friend. As they travel they meet more bearded animals that help them and show them new things. This was such a cute way to teach children that someone who is different is not weird. If you get to know them, you may have wonderful adventures with a new friend.

The illustrations were fantastic. They were cartoony, yet detailed. I definitely recommend this book for a child. The bright colors and rhyming are sure to keep their attention.

Thin plot does attempt to introduce various real animals with beards through kid-friendly silly bear-with-a-beard, but aimless use of verse does not drive the plot or strengthen the text. Uses rhymes of convenience and near-rhyme. Reuses drawings cut, pasted, and mirrored instead of new illustrations. Each page consists of characters centered on a blank page without backgrounds. Would have loved the illustrations to help tell the story and invite a page-turn.

Bearded: A Very Hairy Children's Book is a silly story of a bear with a big beard and how he travels to visit other animals around the world with beards. It is an excellent book to expand vocabulary and knowledge of animal and far away places for young children. It is full of silly rhymes and odd situations.

A cute story about a pet bear with a long beard and the places he has been, and the other bearded animals he has encountered. I didn't find the story to have any moral lessons, etc. Just a simple tale about a bearded bear and his adventures.

The book is nicely illustrated. It states the book is 40 pages long, which doesn't make sense because it ends on page 17.

I don't know what it is about short stories that are typically free for Kindle, but they never seem to fully make since to me. They seem piece together with something missing. They always cute and the illustrations are always well done, just missing something.

Free e-book via BookBub. Loved the illustrations, inclusion of different skin colors, & animals from different parts of the world. A few of the rhymes & illustrations seemed off to me (why a robot buffalo?)...but little kids love the imaginative. Quite like the acknowledgements page too xD

Ok .. some learning about bearded animals

This book was cute, but I found myself stumbling over many words as I read it aloud .. it didn't seem to flow very smoothly. My 3yo said his favorite thing was the refrigerator hiding in the beard (of all random things).

I think I originally picked this up cuz it was free and I thought I could read it to kids at camp, haha, but I ended up picking up some other books and never got around to it while camp was still a thing. Still, it was a cute story and I enjoyed the art. :)
