The Unsmiling Mermen is a collection of yaoi-themed short stories by Ichiko Ima.

The title story is the best among the bunch. The second story feels a bit too long-winded and it's over-complicated. The third story is nice but it's a bit unsettling when we learned the MC's first love from years ago is in fact his estranged half-brother, the final story, which is the sequel to the first story, is also nice.

It's rare to see a yaoi short story collection with a mature tone and attitude. I'd re-read this manga for various of times, and I will probably do it again in the near future.

It's a yaoi manga, but unlike those unrealistic yaoi mangas, the author Ichiko Ima handled romances between men in an realistic yet deeply emotional way.

I bought the manga yesterday and re-read those stories again, and they're still good!
