The Boss's Son #1

The Boss's Son - Part 1

Rate this book
This is a 3 book novella series. 18+ due to sexual situations.

Britt woke up in Jack’s glorious arms.

Jack…whatever his last name was. She hadn't a clue who he was. Kicking her way out of the sheet, Britt got to her feet and clutched her head instantly. It pounded like an unsuccessful road construction project and her teeth hurt, actually ached from the hangover. Stumbling to the bathroom with annoyance, she drank water and took a shower and drank more water, chastising herself for letting it get this bad.

She knew to drink water and take aspirin before bed to help curb this hideous feeling. She needed a full breakfast, something big. But she was stuck with this guy who thought it was socially acceptable to hang out after a one-night stand. Britt didn’t have any experience with a one-nighter except that time in college with the one guy in her women’s studies class, the one with the tattoo of a hard drive motherboard on his chest. That hadn’t ended well but for sure he had at least had the courtesy to leave her dorm immediately afterward. Were they supposed to have breakfast together? Bond in some way? She had work. He had…probably the unemployment line or guitar practice or something. Mainly, she needed head-space to get ready for her day and try to forget what she’d done the night before, namely some guitarist whose last name was a mystery better left unsolved. The guy was HOT! But she knew she would never see him again.

Or would she?

I don't know how I feel about this book, the storyline was ok but I felt no real chemistry between Jack and Brit. Jack is this carefree, charismatic, talented billionaire and Brit is this straight laced nerdy accountant. And normally that would work for me because I love stories where the underdawg comes out on top, but Brit is just nutty and confused. One minute she wants him and then the next she's being a bitch and pushing him away....totally Jekyll and Hyde personality. By the way it ends with a cliffhanger, part of a series.

I'm 31% through and I don't think I can finish. I find the main character intensely annoying and rude, there's hardly any storyline and I am bored already.

So I’ve come to learn that Accidentally Married to the Billionaire is a sequel to this three part of The Boss’s Son (thanks for putting them in the wrong order in the Romance Collection by the way). This was obvious for one, Marj was in this book as well as Britt with her already HEA in Accidentally Married to the Billionaire. For two, these two books were extremely similar, in fact so similar that I could use the exact same review for both books if I wanted to.

Just as in the book with Marj this one lacked personality, that being that it was kind of a surface story. Sure, I got explained to me who the characters were and how Britt tried to live a day by boring day life with no excitement, but pulled towards and obsessed with Jack and the wildness he brought forth. Other than those explanations though, It didn’t dig any deeper. The story was very much driven by dialogues, almost to the extremes, and therefore showed very little emotions, thoughts or feelings from the characters. This made the back and forth from Britt’s “forget him” to “I must have him” very out of nowhere and very repetitive. In fact it just gave me, the reader, whiplash without any more complex or deeper reasoning behind the constant switcheroo of what she decided.

It also didn’t help that the story didn’t have anything more to it than their relationship and sex. There were no big plot or any real conflict to be had. It was basically her getting dumped, picked up a guy, went to work, met guy there, date and romance with her whiplash decisions thrown into the mix as the only conflict to be had. I mean, she was dumped and cheated on by her ex which I guess is a conflict, but the story didn’t really treat it as such or impact her personality or the relationship with Jack in any way. Don’t get me wrong, there were sweet moments and some charming dialogues to be had as well as some twist and a bit of drama with them meeting again, but that was it in the plot and characterization department. That’s why I can only call this a surface story, because neither plot nor characters had anything more deep or complex to offer.

One thing that really bothers me which I have also mentioned in other reviews and will keep doing until I read all books or until this changes. And that is how disingenuous and misleading the author’s strategy is with her books, releasing three parts of the same story and charging all of them individually as one entire book each instead of each a third of a book. It’s so sketchy and reeks of greed for money that I can smell it a mile away. That is also the reason why I won’t continue on reading this book. It is unreasonable and also quite disrespectful of the author to expect her readers to pay trice as much as one book should cost just to read the book to the end. Unless the price of part two and three gets lowered this will probably be it for me with The Boss’s Son.

Favourites

“So what do you do, Jack, besides providing liquor to damsels in distress?”
“I’m a guitarist. Sort of an artist, too.”
“Hmm….are you in a band?”
“Isn’t everybody?”
“Not the people I know, actually. They’re primarily in accounting and marketing and the like.”
“Wild crowd you run with,” he sipped his whiskey.

Pet Peeves or Red Flags

One of my major pet peeves for romance novels is when the verb 'sex' is used in place of the name or nickname of a body part. A sex is not part of our body, it is an action that we do, we have sex.

'He spoke to her then without words, with nothing but the savage need of his member pressing against her sex, parting her and moving into her with slide and thrust.'

Errors in Writing

'“Tattoos?”
“One on his wrist.”
“What did I say?”
“I didn’t read it. I just licked it and moved on.”
'

She cursed herself for being careless, for picking up a stranger who turned out to be her new boss’s son and the newest addition the company.

'The girders are too big even for a cargo plane, so they’re sipping.'

'There’s no being alone; there’s always voices and a crush in the streets or on the sidewalks, people, cares, animals.'

'“I’m going to try to tone that down. Maybe work on doing what makes me happy instead what I think SHOULD make me happy.”'

The story starts with Britt Collier in her office and her boss Mr Freeman still trying to get a look down her blouse. She is counting down the days until he retires

Her day gets even better when she meets her boyfriend at an expensive restaurant and he informs her she has been dating someone else for a couple of weeks. He leaves her before their meal is delivered . . . Enter Jack Fitsimmons.

Give and take story between Britt and Jack, who ends up being her new boss's son.

Hate waiting for second book

Really loved the story. Don't like how you get pulled in for it to stop and say you need top purchase book 2 for the rest of the story. Also don't like how there are only posts of other stories to read when all could have been about the story you were reading.

DNF, didn't like it

I found this kind of childish and boring. Would not reccomend. Britt daydreaming is too much like a teenager with a crush.

Sierra Rose’s books are quick, fun, laugh out loud. At some points in this story I felt that she was writing in a hurry. This book needs some editing in a few spots.

Britt met Jack at a restaurant when she got dumped by a cheating boyfriend. He was hot, funny, interested in her and wants more. Britt is just afraid to take more since she spent 6 months with the wrong man. Can Jack change her mind?

Britt loses the skeevy boss she has to retirement, only to gain a new boss she can respect. Only one catch here - his son is Jack! Jack the amazing one night stand she thought she could put behind her. Well, she was trying to anyway.

Jack does not understand why she is pushing him away when the chemistry between them is explosive! They clicked so fast. Both in bed and out. Now they occasionally work together and she is grabbing the excuse to keep him in the distance.

Britt is torn since he has made her feel beautiful and all sorts of things she never had before. Jack is really the most amazing man. She comes with a lot of hangups. Can they work it out before it's too late?

I found this book to be a quick and satisfying read that left me wanting more. It was such a well thought out plot. I would only change one thing if I could, and that is that Britt would not wait so long to claim Jack!

An Awesome Read!

I loved reading The Boss's Son(My Office Romance Book 1), all about Britt a twenty-eight year old Accountant. She was meeting her boyfriend Kevin for dinner and they would be talking about going to look for an apartment they could both live in. However instead of talking apartments, he broke up with her instead. A gentleman at the bar sent her a margarita, she went over and thanked him, his name is Jack and she invited him to gave dinner with her, and he excepted. They hit it off and talked for hours, then they slept together, and he stayed over. Talk about ackward, but eventually he left and then they took a cab to pick up their cars! The author wrote a unique story and the characters made the story cone to life! Read about Britt & Jack and see where things go! It was a page turner and I can't wait to read story 2 & 3!

*Cliffhanger/spoiler alert!!*
The Boss's Son is a fun upbeat romance story. We meet Britt, an over-organized accountant, stuck in a boring relationship(although she doesn't realize it yet) & a horrible work environment... She suddenly finds herself single & ventures out of her comfort zone--a lot!--and meets Jack, taking him home for the evening.
As much as she tries to convince herself that he's just a one-night fling, she can't get him out of her mind & wants more. Jack tries to make contact after, but Britt declines.
Eventually she realizes Jack is her new Boss's son & is mortified.....yet still interested. Can they make it work..??
Looking forward to the next book to find out!!

The cliffhanger wasn't the problem

I'm starting to notice an irritating problem. Why do all of these books end before you even hit 50%? You're reading along watching your progress thinking you have much more of the story to go when all of a sudden it ends and you have over 50% left of filler. How utterly irritating. I would have given it a higher rating if it had just Bern the story by itself without all of the stuff at the end.

The Boss's Son Review

A steamy little novella. Britt has her life planned out with Kevin. She is stunned and humiliated when he dumps her on their six month anniversary. After a one night stand with Jack she is confused and unsure of her feelings for him. Then she finds out he's her new boss's son.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
The story in itself was pretty good and the characters were easy to relate to. I enjoyed this book for the most part, though I was a little disappointed when I noticed that I was only at 50% and the book just ended..and on a cliffhanger no less. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

What a great book to start a new series. I starting the next installment right after writing this review. I can't wait to see what happens next. First off, Kevin what a joke. Jack is HOT! Britt, she needs to loosen up a bit but I'm sure she will get there. This book was well written with great characters. Off to the next installment.

The Boss's Son is part 1 of a three part series....so beware, it leaves you wanting more. Britt is torn between the path she feels she should be on and the one she desires. I can't wait to see where it ends up.
