This is the first book I read in this series and from what I understand, this is a standalone novella and I found it a lovely way to get familiar with this world.
The characters are thought out well and I love how the line between listening to your gut and giving in to temptation is blurred. And that fact makes Stet also such an interesting character. It shows the complex parts of life between lust, restraint and finding that balance if you ask me. Oh, and the banter. Got to love me some good bantering!

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. This is a standalone novella part of the Boneyard Cafe series. This was absolutely a great story that had me from the very beginning!! The characters well well written and loved Stet the unknown Monk!! I felt all the emotions like you were there with them it was just phenomenal and hope that there will be more stories like this one!! Chefs kiss Teresa!!

This was such an intriguing novella. I love anything vampire. This did not disappoint in that regard. And I loved the nostalgic feel. That was such a fun element. Right from the beginning I was pulled in and enjoyed reading this to the end. This is my first time reading this author and I enjoyed it immensely. Can’t wait to read more.

A most enjoyable and well-written story. Such lush descriptions of the City of Blood, a dangerous and fascinating place! With true skill the author lets the reader discover it along with Stet and Lara. She also strikes just the right vibe with her vampires, always in a battle between their fading humanity and the predators they become. I really enjoyed this excursion into her world and wholeheartedly recommend it.

I was not entirely sure what I was getting into with this story, but going in blind was the absolute best way to experience it!
The banter in this story between them all was hilarious. I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the magic and the worlds that we experienced. I was constantly trying to guess what was going to come next, and loved the few plot twists and surprises that the author had in store for us.
Teresa also tugged on those heart strings a bit which had me flipping pages so fast to see what came next. I cannot wait to dive into the rest of the world that she has created for us!

A fun dip into Stet (& Lara’s) backstory.
Touching on some subtle details in regard to mental health, self doubt, relationships and trust, this novella is powerful in its own right.
Connecting more of The Seven’s universe, it’s more than meets the eye packed into less than 200 pgs. A wonderful quick read that has some deep insights if you’re looking for them.

Having read the other books in Johnson’s Boneyard Cafe series, I knew I would enjoy Glum & Glee, and I was not disappointed.
If you are new to Teresa Louise Johnson’s writing, let me tell you: you are in for a wild ride. Her world-building is dark and gritty, yet overflowing with hope and light, and Glum & Glee is no exception (as a prequel, it expands the world, but it can also be read as a standalone).
In this installment, Monk Stet (who is “not that kind of monk”) finds himself in the City of Blood alongside a mix of new and familiar companions. Forced to confront his logical brain against the parts of himself that yield to temptation, he teeters on a fine line between desire and restraint. He gives in to his inhibitions while desperately trying to maintain control, all while navigating the deep complexity of lust, love, and genuine connection. The line, “love is free at this table” (p.114) highlights this sentiment so well.
At its core, Glum & Glee is a story about maintaining your humanity. It explores how beings (whether vampire, human, or something in between) can walk the line between good and bad, often ending up as both and neither at the same time.
The book highlights these themes through Stet’s uneasy, wary relationship with the vampire Rook. Against his better judgment, Stet agrees to be Rook’s muse, and watching him navigate the consequences of his role in Rook’s art was easily one of my favorite parts.
My only qualm? How on earth did Griffin and Bartholomew not figure it out about Tessa?!

This standalone novella got me intrigued and unable to stop reading once I started. This book in the Boneyard Café series left me fascinated and excited to read the others.
This novella is the story of an Unknown Monk called Stet who makes new friends, a vampire, Griffen and his brother Bartholomew, as wells a fierce and energetic, Lara. They meet an artist, also a powerful and dangerous vampire named Rook. He is drawn to Stet, and this novella
walks on the thin line between divulging in dark temptation and listening to an underlying warning feeling.
The setting of Glum & Glee is my favorite part of the whole book. The way Teresa Louise Johnson creates a whole other universe without any holes is very impressive! I loved the deep thought put into every scene and every confrontation in the book between characters. No stone was left unturned when it comes to the environment in which this book takes place in. Another favorite part of mine is the magic! The way magic is given a life of it’s own, it’s own sounds it’s own existence.
Romantasy, vampires, witty banter, tranquil vs. energetic, and ancient beings with dark and light magics, this book is great for people who enjoy those books!

I love everything about this book. All of the characters are so well written, and I really hope there are more books to follow in this story.

I need more of their stories! One of the best books I've read this year!

I was intrigue from the very beginning. At its core, this story is about maintaining your humanity and the blureed line between good and evil. Whether vampire, human or something in between "Unkowns" the characters constantly exist somewhere in the space between both and neither.
The prose pulled me deep into the dark atmospher, making the City of Blood fell familiar yet distinctly. The characters were wonderfully written, and I loved how deeply I felt their emotions. It truly felt like I was experiencing everything alongside them. And the bantet? Absolutely hilarious!
I also really enjoyed the uniqueness of the magic, the different worlds we explored. and the twists that kept me engage.
If you're into vampire, dark fantasy, unique magic, and atomospheric worlds, this is such a fun readd to add to your TBR.

This is a Boneyard Café novella set in the year 2000, and that nostalgia was something that I felt, even at the beginning. I felt the atmosphere, and I was there with the characters, which was something that I really liked. The characters themselves came to life in my mind as I was reading; I could picture them.
I liked all of the characters, their humour and chemistry, especially Stet and Lara. As this was a novella, I found it easy to read in one sitting, and it satisfied a craving for something that was both spooky and spicy.
If you're into vampires, this is a fun read, and it's a good one to add to your TBR as spooky season descends.

I just love a vampire story and this novella did not disappoint. The atmosphere, slow burn, and banter were so good.
This prequel novella gives the backstory to some of the characters from the Boneyard Cafe series. After reading it, I definitely need more of this magical and gothic feeling world.
One of my favorite parts of this story was the opposites attract vibe. Laura is so strong willed and impulsive. Our Monk Stet is so logical. Honestly all the chartacters just drew me in and the twists and turns had me flipping pages.

I’m still not sure if this book can be read as an standalone.
It was the first book that I read from this author and maybe I should read the other books first… because at the beginning, everything implies that you know from this world.
And well… sometimes I struggle thinking if I should keep reading or DNF it.
At the end, I didn’t quit, but I should DNF.
I don’t like it, any of the characters. I think that the book needs a lot of world building (maybe in the others book this is developed).
So… at the end, it was a 3 stars reading, because is very well written and very gothic.

I simply couldn't get enough of Stet and Laura but let me tell you this book is full of twists and turns.

While this is a standalone novella, it is interconnected with The Boneyard Cafe series. I loved that it gave you a little insight into other aspects of the world. This book revolves around Stet, who is an Unknown Monk (not that kind of a monk) and extremely old, he has a talisman he needs to deliver to another realm and in that realm is vampires and a woman who catches his curiosity. Humans and vampires and others are in this story and it’s a quick read and a good intro into the world. Stet has to make decisions and challenges his own logic throughout and the others are also great fun.

Glum & Glee completely sucked me into its world, and I honestly didn’t want to leave!
Honestly, I feel like I could reread this book in a few years and take something completely different from it each time. 🥹
The storytelling alone is SO immersive. I found myself completely swept up in the story, wishing for more when that dreaded Kindle page just… stopped swiping. 😭😂
I absolutely loved this, and I’m definitely going to be checking out more from Teresa because I NEED more of these worlds!

While the main character is not a vampire, the vampires he’s surrounded by are very interesting. I love when books explore the humanity in vampires.
Stet himself is so interesting. His constant rationalizing and ignorance makes his own humanity present to the reader.
As this is a prequel novella, I am intrigued to read the actual series. The author’s writing is interesting and definitely has its own voice that’s separate from what I’m used to seeing all the time.
I would have liked more clarity on the Dickens girls and to see more dialogue in those sections.
Stet himself is so interesting. His constant rationalizing and ignorance makes his own humanity present to the reader.
