Everyone has heard the statistics . . . 75% of Americans describe their lives as "very stressful". . . frustration, absenteeism, and burnout are rampant and with the pace of change and globalization, almost everyone predicts it's just going to get worse! Plus, even though everyone is experiencing more stress than ever, they are also tired of "stress management" and people giving them simplistic answers to life's complex problems. In his fourth book, Dr. Crawford addresses this problem by first explaining why this level of stress and frustration is so prevalent, and why so much of the advice about how to deal with these problems will never work! Using a conversational style that is free of psychobabble, this ground-breaking new book then gives its readers a concrete, comprehensive system for shifting to the upper 80% of their brain (the "Top of the Mind") and accessing the clarity, confidence, and creativity necessary for success in today's world. Life From the Top of the Mind is designed for people and organizations who want to become more influential in their lives, and the lives of others.
Bill Crawford is a writer in Austin with an interest in Texas history. His previous books include Border Radio: Quacks, Yodelers, Pitchmen, Psychics, and Other Amazing Broadcasters of the American Airwaves (cowritten with Gene Fowler) and Stevie Ray Vaughan: Caught in the Crossfire (cowritten with Joe Nick Patoski).
A couple of years ago, I was put on an Improvement Plan by my manager at work. There were significant parts of the plan that were provably incorrect. Unfortunately, my manager was not prepared to adjust the plan to speak only the truth. Other managers would not investigate. HR would not investigate. I was in a difficult situation.
My manager had established himself in a prominent position within the company. I assumed it was better for the company to ignore the false statements than to risk upsetting my manager and revealing the reality.
I found Dr Crawford on YouTube initially. As a consequence, I came across Dr Crawford's book "Life from the Top of the Mind". The book was fundamental in helping me form a strategy to address the problem. I learned how to interact with my manager to bring about a positive outcome.
It was Dr Crawford's guidance that fundamentally changed my approach to the situation. Even though I did not like--or agree--with what my manager was doing, or how my manager did it, I was able to respond in a positive way, instead of reacting in a negative way.
I'm very pleased to say that the problem was resolved successfully. This meant that from my managers perspective, and from HR, an improvement was observed. In the end, the performance concerns were successfully resolved. I even ended the year with meeting expectations with some attributes exceeding. As a result, I kept my job.
I also became a better person as a result. The skills I learned through this experience continue to live in me, and are applied to my daily life.
I'd like to say a huge thank you Dr Crawford for his book, his YouTube channel, and his guidance. Thank you Dr Crawford! :-)
I did not like Dr. Crawford's class...maybe because I was made to go, maybe because I was having a bad day. Perhaps I will like reading his free book better. Who knows?
