The world has froze. Jagged glaciers and freezing waters now cover what were the seven continents. One man has lived through it all. Through war. Through death. Through time. Daniels has been alone since the collapse, believing everyone else dead.

He was wrong.

There are others. They've built cities on top of the frozen steel that lies beneath the ice. Below them trouble is brewing. Somewhere deep within the ice.

I consumed this book. The paperback's thickness may unnerve some, but the font is medium/large, so it reads more like a 250 page book. Overall I enjoyed the story and think there are some areas that deserve a bit more fleshing out. Speaking of flesh....wow.

I really want to know much more about Daniels. He is, by far, the most interesting character. He somehow is nearly immortal and goes through death and rebirth by the moon and the sun. He lives completely alone on a glacier in the middle of the ocean. The world around him is devoid of life, except that which he finds in the cold, harsh waters; blubber, meat and the occasional old artifact adrift is all he has for company.

And here is where the hook gets into the meat of the story. A book and artifact wash 'ashore'. Daniels knows the pictures in the book and figures out how to operate the artifact. This leads him to find out he isn't alone - even if wishes he was.

The reader is along for the ride though a future history which parallels our past in many ways. Cities upon cities, greed and the quest for more power, technology, socialism, deceit, and friendship.

Buff is not afraid of some death and destruction. He isn't afraid to kill of characters either. The book ends with a complete story, but also leaves the door frozen wide-open for more adventure with the Sunborn. I received a paperback copy of this book for review.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review through Lovers of Paranormal Group on Goodreads. Sunborn is greatly imaginative, giving us new worlds in a post apocalyptic time that are unique yet grounded. In these worlds are numerous characters that our main character, Daniels falls in with. The author surrounds Daniels with different people and scenarios as we travel but never drops the main character thereby also maintaining continuity throughout the journey of intrigue. Kenneth Buff doesn't just give us post apocalyptical creativity but the subterfuge of struggle. Our main character has exciting physical battles and has constant inner and personal battles as well. The additional characters are dimensional but focus stays on Daniels. Conversations and inner dialogue move the reader along naturally and fit in well with his wonderful descriptions of these inventive worlds. Looking forward to more from Kenneth Buff.

I read this book in a day. It's quite short, but is packed with creative action.
Sunborn is a complicated apocalyptic tale following Daniels, created immortal by the radiation from the fallout of the last great war, journey toward his destiny.
I found the worlds, Ice World and the land beneath the Ice called Annan, complex and imaginative. Both worlds are at war, terror attacks and plans to dominate the other for food and space and Daniels, an immortal mutant is key to both worlds.
Sunborn manages to marry the old worlds well with the new dystopian regimes. It paces itself well and builds to a cracking climax.

I received this book from the author through LoP in exchange for an honest review.

Sunborn follows a man who survived the apocalypse has lived a lonely life for the past 800 years. Daniels hardly remembers the life that he once had; only the one he lives as a lone survivor who is cursed to walk this Earth. However, one day he finds a book that inspires him to search for its source, a journey that is far more dangerous than he could have imagined.

It took me several chapters to get into this story. Once it got into a groove, I realized that might have been the point. Daniels lived in isolation for 800 years. Finding that there were still people in the world, with new cities and cultures, was all very disorienting but wondrous for him. I feel like I was meant to feel confused and disconnected in the early stages because Daniels was disoriented and entering a long journey of pain, heartbreak, but also wonder. As a special being that possesses the ability to die at sundown and regenerate at dawn, he finds himself a walking target for people who want to use and abuse him. We watch him discover that there are people still living in this world, where love and potential friendships become a real possibility for him. However, we also watch him as he discovers that greed and war is still prevalent, putting him in danger almost every step of the way. We're taken along for a long and icy ride that shows us that history is likely to repeat itself even in futuristic and post-apocalyptic circumstances.

For starters wow love this book.

Imagine wake up to sunshine full of energy and power surrounded by ice, Daniels does every morning. He is beyond strong and extremely capable of overcoming any obstacles he faces. However at night his strength, his body, his life is torn apart as he slowly decays into pain and torture. This has been his life as long as he can remember thanks to his curse.
After awhile he finds hope in a book that washes ashore he thought he was alone. He soon sets off to find the images in the picture. What does he find but a place of chaos, war, and untrustworthy characters. On one of his adventures he meets Chelsea. She helps him as much as he helps her.

This book is packed full of excitement and suspense. Fast paced and extremely detailed. Never want to put it down. Was sad when it ended looking forward to another.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)

In Sunborn, Daniels is a man that survived the apocalypse and became a mutant immortal that dies every night, but regenerates every day (as long as he has access to sunlight). He has lived alone so long that he no longer remembers any other life, until one day he finds a book that stirs his memory and his longing for companionship. He builds a ship out of the glacier which is his home and goes looking for the book’s source. What he finds is not, however, what he wanted.

This book was hard at times to keep up with, and I really kind of felt sorry for Daniels most of the way through, but overall I don’t regret reading it. I recommend this book for fans of post-apocalyptic fiction.

This is a great read if you are looking for something different. The main character is basically a superhero but he doesn't act like he is better than any other character. He is easy to relate to and you find yourself rooting for him to save the new world.

What a ride. "Sunborn" is an action-packed, roller coaster of a science fiction tale, set in a far future frozen Earth desolated by nuclear fallout. Most of humanity is destroyed, and those that remain have hidden cities under the ice masses. And, unfortunately, most of humanity hasn't changed either - greed, corruption, paranoia, stupidity are among our most awesome traits.

Our narrator, Daniels, is an oddity - alone on a glacier, seemingly immortal, he's forgotten his past and longs for others. Over the centuries he's developed a mutation powered by the sun. And one day, when he discovers long-lost items washed ashore on his glacier, his journey sets in motion the events of the book.

And some motion it is. Once Daniels leaves his glacier, the action comes fast and furious at the reader, almost like a Hollywood summer blockbuster flick with the speakers on too loud. I had a difficult time keeping up with the pacing, particular as there were so many characters that were quickly introduced, and then seemingly just as quickly killed off.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and recommended for fans of the apocalypse.

This is a completely different book from anything I have read. Kenneth keeps you in the suspense from the first page on. He is excellent in wrapping a web around you and only slowly releasing you from it, finding out what this book is about.

I absolutely loved the pace of this book. You can't help but LOVE Daniels. He is an incredible character who you just wish was real and there would be more like him around. He is a sincerely good person, who has learnt over time what truly is important. The ending was sad, yet hopeful and I wonder if the author will pick it up for a second one.

The story line is unique, keeping you on the edge of your seat and has some really nice twists. Human nature just never disappoints and will always come through, sadly.

I can only highly recommend this book for anyone who loves paranormal with a twist of post apocalypse.

I read this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is captivating from the first page. The initial situation is so unexpected that you cannot help yourself from reading more.
The book is well paced although there were 2 or 3 points where I had to reread some fragments because it lost me a little.
The ending is also unexpected and left want more, so if there will be a second book I will look forward to read it.
I can recomend this book to all book lovers, because it is really interesting.

The main character surprised me in this story. I thought he would be more formidable. He came off as very wimpy and this was disappointing. I understand he didn’t want to hurt people, but at some point you need to protect yourself. Although, the journey he was on was a roller coaster of a story. If the earth froze over and the people left were like this bunch, I don’t think I’d want to live in that world. I did enjoy the story and I thank the author for letting me read it.

This is a fast-paced, action-packed story; I actually noticed my heart racing a couple of times. However, I found it difficult to follow and often lacking in depth. I was intrigued after the first chapter and excited for this unique take on a post-apocalyptic/dystopian society, but the weak back story made it difficult for me to believe in the world Daniels was experiencing.

3.5 I love the premise of this book-being the "last man on earth", living in and on ice, no memory of your time before and being immortal. But I just found the story to be choppy- it didn't flow. But I still had to finish to see how it ends.
