I’VE LOST SO MUCH. FAMILY. MY HOME. PRIDE. MY IDENTITY.
And I couldn’t help but feel it’s entirely my fault. There is no one else to blame.
I’ve quickly learned that being the White Raven isn’t easy. The dead are restless and angry, and I don’t know the first thing about being a banshee. Those around me will get hurt. To keep them safe, I must endure painful decisions.
Zane Hunter, the ultra-bad boy who stole my heart, is one of those difficult decisions. Our souls are synchronized, making us a compatible duo. Too bad I’m engaged to his brother.
My forbidden relationship with Zane is complicated. Deep down I want more than what my duty demands of me, what my family’s past has shaped for me.
Our problematic relationship only increases in tenfold when a surprise I never saw coming shows up in Raven Hallow, changing the game. I thought I had nothing left to lose…I was wrong.
Yeah, being a banshee isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Black Crow was one of those books that had me intrigued about a certain character. In the first book, White Raven, I was wondering what one character, Zander, was up to. It seemed like he was disappearing a lot so I when I got this book - I knew who to look out for.
When it came to the awful love triangle (ish) in this book, I just didn't care. Piper and Zane had chemistry and were basically each other's true love. However, Piper and Zander were betrothed to one another. It didn't help that Zane and Zander were brothers either...
I liked every one equally but didn't care if anyone ended up together. At one point, I definitely stopped caring - which wasn't hard for me to do. Besides the little romance, this book did have some drama and action in it. It was also interesting to see people from Piper's previous past (like before she moved to this new town) come back into her life. Whether they were dead or alive - it made everything a bit more interesting.
Overall, it was interesting in some parts. I was annoyed in others. Some deaths were sad to me.. but the ending was eh - alright. It didn't really wow me.. but that doesn't mean I wont read the next one just to see what the heck this town, and characters, are going to throw my way.
Piper became the last White Raven at the end of book one but that doesn't make it any safer for her. She has even more attacks against her now. Zane has taken on the task of training her but she is still a bit of a mess at figuring out her powers and learning to fight. Basically, he is still saving her left and right. As her coronation approaches, everyone agrees that she should keep up the appearance of being engaged to Zander even though she has not made a decision yet whether to go through with it or not. Piper also struggles with the decision to send TJ away to keep him safe and just as she puts him on the ferry to the mainland, Parker shows up on the island.
Thinking about it now, I'm not sure what was accomplished in this installment in the series. I guess Piper gets a better handle on some of her powers, but everything else happens at the very end of the book. Book 3 is the end, so I guess all the action will take place then?? Luckily, Piper was less annoying in this book and the presence of Parker on the island helped me get more invested in what is going on.
CONTINUA: https://www.opinionilibrose.it/2021/0... Buongiorno Librose, Sono qui oggi a parlarvi di "Il corvo nero" di J.L. Weil, edito Hope Edizioni.
È interessante e creativo e soprattutto unico.
It was alright ... I’m not going to read the third since well they are together already it’s the whole point to see what happens but we know they are together so I’m done.
I really enjoyed the first book so much tension and sassiness loved it! This one blah super reminded me of twilight
I thought this was a good sequel. It was nice that she got to spend time with her bestie Parker. It was nice that he finally knows the truth about her. I hope the last book is as good as the rest have been.
I read the first book a long time ago when I wasn't active on gr. So I never rated it. I like the story and the characters. The adults sometimes are not acting rationally. This time I bought the audiobooks and listened to the series as fast as I could. Took me two days. It was a good plot great characters and I overall enjoyed the whole story.
First of all I'm so disappointed, I was expecting so much more than this. After the first book the expectations were really high, because the story line and characters were as well, but in this one, it seems like author was trying her best to make Zane the manliest and the strongest character of this story, and while I understand her motives, it did not work out, because Weil negated all the other characters, Piper included, while she was the main character of this story, she made her so small, and weak, nothing was left of the girl that we saw in the first book. She became really pathetic... I did not understand why all the fight scenes involved only Zane? During the Estelle's fight she screamed, and when Zoe and Zach was next to her, in the club, they reached her at the same time as the others who were not in the perimeter. There was just so much spotlight on Zane, that even though the book was named after him, it was just overdone. That on mind, lets talk about Zander. I think we all will agree that it was obvious that he is going to be killed, why? The reason is, that Zane was supposed ti be made the heir of the death, Zander was an obstacle that needed to be removed, the other reason was that, he didn't have anyone except his family in this world, so nothing to keep him alive, he did not have a love interest, and lets accept that he was not going to be the third wheel. So, he was killed for Zane, again. I loved Zander, but I understand it, however I'm still sad, I really would love him to be with Aspyn... I am glad that predicted that we will see Parker, and that he and Zoe will click, I also new that her father is going to end up dead, I hope she will take care of TJ. Still I'm so disappointed that Piper turned out to be this weakling in this book. All the time calling for Zane, and not fighting her fights, and she was nagging and crying all the time, while it was cute before by the time and frequency it became annoying. And I think that author should work on the fighting scenes. If she wants to write a great fighting scene involved with a bunch of reapers, she should mention their actions as well more than once, not just mention and forget, just in order to write their names. I think at least the main 5 characters deserve that little attention.
Black Crow, or the Schlock Strikes Back, didn't quite live up to the trainwreck of the first installment, more's the pity. This managed to have less sentence fragments and less bizarre uses of arcane phrases, though it still was crammed full of LOL pseudo teen speak to keep you snorting in disbelief ("I'm about to go Dateline on your ass" being the pinnacle). The plot and world building are still barely existent, to the point where this book only managed to name the series villain near the end of its second book. She's still the chosen one who is destined to end the war and bring the peace, so on and so forth, and not much about that has changed, except a handwave at a couple of training mentions. To be honest, though, we all know the whole reaper war business is just distraction from the main event, and the characters know it, too, because for all their talk about how the world hung in the balance we had weeks to play around here with no real repercussions.
And what are we here for? Why, to find out who will win our main's heart! Well, no, because it's clear that Twilight knockoff Zane's got that sewn up. Must be his stellar character, which includes brooding, snark, and newly in this book, declaring that our main is his whole life. Twilight knockoff has no personality, interests, nada. He is the true love plot device. He is joined by his older brother, who is supposedly engaged to our main to unite the powers and whatnot, but is totally cool with her fooling around with his brother and is nothing but supportive, to the point where he dies and is cool with it because he can give her his powers. His personality is "nice", and he's one of the main's two secondary options. The other is her best friend, who inexplicably shows up so he can get firmly placed in the friendzone and forgotten for large stretches. He has one outburst of "Why can't you love me", and then apologizes and disappears for most of the book. She claims to be worried about his safety, but she never knows where he is or what he's doing, so she's not all that concerned.
But to be fair, our main is never much concerned with anything except herself and her Twilight knockoff accessory. She sends her brother away, presumably for his safety, but while he was around she never knew where he was or what he was doing either. She never talked to him, and when he lashed out that he was being sent away by the only family he had left that he thought cared with no explanations, she rolls her eyes in annoyance. She texts her dad to get him, but puts him on the boat not knowing if dad was even there.
Oh, speaking of Dad, holy pointless plot threads. Our main finds out that the man who raised her isn't her dad, because her dad was a reaper so she can be pureblood, and she has no reaction. He shows up as a ghost, meaning he was murdered, and she dispatches him without a thought. She mustered up at least two paragraphs of remorse when nice brother fiancee was conveniently dispatched (in a scene that feels suspiciously close to Fred's death in Harry Potter), which is more than she spared for the dad who raised her. So yeah, the dad revelation was pointless. As pointless as finding out that Twilight knockoff was a "half breed", because his father Death screwed around with a human and he was raised by his stepmother, who killed his mother in jealousy. And our tough Twilight knockoff is fine with that. So what was the point of that story?
So the plot is barely there, the characters remain two-ply, but the main is the biggest problem. She is so self-centered and self-worshiping it is amazing. You don't know why anyone likes her, but they do, and they love to tell her so. Every character exists to tell her that she feels things more deeply, handles things better, is smarter and prettier and more powerful and talented than everyone. And the main loves it--at one point she says a small part of her may think she doesn't deserve it, but she knows she's in her rightful place as ruler of all. If that doesn't sum her up, I don't know what does.
I'm going to finish this series off, because I want to see how far down the rabbit hole this goes. It is SyFy movie levels of so bad it's kind of entertaining still, and that's enough to keep me going.
When we left Piper at the end of the first book she was starting to understand that she couldn't walk away from her new duties as White Raven. She knew she would have to take this seriously if she wanted to protect those she cares about.
We pick up the second book right where we left off from the first one. Piper is struggling to come to terms with being forced to marry Zander, losing her Grandma and having to deal with very complex emotions. Personally, I think she handles herself well. I can't say I'd do better or worse. When you have so much riding on you, for example, the balance of the entire world, it's a lot of pressure to a girl who's just turned 18 and lost way more than she should have.
Then we have Zane. That's a whole mountain to climb right there. Zane and Piper's souls are symmetrically compatible and navigating that it worse than finding your way around a mine field. I really enjoyed Zane attempting to train Piper on how to use her new powers. It reminded me a lot of Tris and Four from "Divergent" It had similar vibes and I really liked the fight scenes. In general I really enjoy their dynamic and how one minute their trying to admit their feelings to each other and the next they want to stab each other in the neck with a fork.
Then Piper has to deal with her best friend Parker who decides to visit at the same time she sends her little brother TJ home so he's safe from all the crazy things happening at Raven Hallow. Parker definitely came with purpose and was not a huge fan of Zane. Another boy problem is not what Piper needed. She's trying to deal with being forced to marry Zander who is the brother of the guy she really wants to be with and now her best friend who wants more than friendship from Piper. Well....her dance card is filling up far too quickly.
By the ending of the book we see more heavy loss and confusion, but I do think Zane is starting to open up more to Piper and to the possibility of them being able to be with each other.
I'm super excited to see how Piper and Zane's story will end. The final book will hopefully tie everything together. I'm rooting for the power couple and whatever is in store for them will be crazy and exciting.
Favorite Character: Piper Favorite Chapter(s): 7, 13, 19. Worth The Hype: Absolutely! Would I recommend: Definitely worth continuing the story!

Black Crow surpasses it's predecessor White Raven with honed in character development and an entertaining read.
Book two Black Crow was much better than book one. All the things that bugged me about book one that prevented me from fully accepting giving it a five-wing review were tamed down. It was a lot more action in this book, you finally get to see some of the extent of Piper's powers, and the relationships in her life are maturing. So, I definitely saw some growth within the character that made me really enjoy reading the book more. Piper is still crass as all get out, but there is a sweetness within the character that emerges in book two that I appreciate. The book has many of the characters telling Piper how much she feels for people, and that caring is what will make her a great queen, but I didn't truly see the feels they talked about until later on in the book. My only pet peeve was how often she called on other people for help, but I accept this as me just feeling more for the character's frustrations and looking forward to a lot more independence and mastering of her abilities. I really wished that more character development was done with Zander, there was only two scenes that I thought expressed him a bit better than just existing to help Piper.
Warning: This book does have strong language.
Sexual content: Even though the character occasionally remarks on sex it is not in the book. The most heavy it gets is cuddling and toe curling kisses.
This book was a great sequel to the first book and picked up right where the previous book left off. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal romance. This was so different from what I have read and it was refreshing. Piper is in the process of grieving the loss of her grandmother who she really was just getting to know. Someone killed her and they are still out there ... Since her grandmothers death, she is prepping herself to fully become the White Raven on her 18th birthday which is only a couple of days away. She decides to ship her brother off back home so she can keep him safe. Surprise, surprise, Parker comes to visit. When they all go out for her birthday, Piper finally finds out who killed Rose and she gets her vengeance. However, it seems to be part of a bigger plan, one that no one knows yet. Without giving away too much, a main character dies which at first you think ok this will be easier. Cant wait to see what the next and final book to this series holds. I am ready for the conclusions, but sad to see the series end as well.
Upon the death of her Grandmother, Piper is now ‘The White Raven’, leader of all the reapers. Being the last of the Raven clan her life is even more dangerous, so she decides to send her brother home for his own safety. But then her best friend Parker arrives and now she has three men to choose: an old friend, a contacted fiancé and the man who owns her heart.
All I can say is I’m glad I’m not Piper. Yes, she has some cool powers and yes, she’s got a lot of money, but I wouldn’t want to have to make the decisions she does. Her mom was wrong not to tell her what her heritage was so she could be prepared.
Footnote: 1) This should have had more editing. I came across a lot of misspelled and wrongly used words. Such as: ‘I was hyper aware of our “duel” power”. Should be dual, not duel. There were some in the previous book, but not as many as here.
Fave scenes: the hawk bodyguards, fighting Crash, Piper discovering an unexpected power outside the club and the makeover.
I enjoyed the first book, but this one dragged on for me.
You can almost skip the entire first third of the book, because it takes that long for her to stop her brooding and having her selfish teenage angst pity parties for something to happen. And even then it goes In loops, teenage brooding, snooty attitude, puppy eyes at a crush, running off into trouble and calling for someone to help. I get it, but it didn’t have to take up so much of the book.
This whole book was disappointing in the character building unlike the first one, so when there were characters hurt or lost I didn’t feel any heartfelt emotions or attachments, as I didn’t know enough about any of the characters to build any detailed image aside from Zane and piper. Two stars because I love the cover and the idea of the story. I’m still undecided on whether I want to read the next one in the series or not.
>Book Review – Black Crow >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Raven series and ends in a cliffhanger. This story is mainly about Piper learning how to handle her powers. Her friend, Parker, comes to visit and TJ leaves. Zane and Piper fall in love, yet Zane leaves to abide by Piper’s engagement to his brother. The story has a lot of action and is quite romantic as Zane and Piper grow closer. >The job of all of the different reapers is not explained very well. The whole idea of eating a soul, but in some cases the soul isn’t at rest, was confusing to me. Even Piper thinks she destroyed Estelle, but then finds out she didn’t. >This book is appropriate for a young adult (16+) audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. The romantic plot is awesome, but some of the background in to the paranormal facts is confusing.
What is Selena’s tie to the Black Crow? Selena, only nineteen has lived a hard life. Abandoned at an orphanage run by nuns as a baby, she has magic that allows her to raise the dead with her blood. But surprises are in store for Selena. She is more than she thought, and someone wants her super supernatural blood. Can her new friends save her? And can she learn to channel her magic to save herself and find the killer
Wow! That was awesome! I do have to admit it's a little slow at times, but still it's worth while. I was thoroughly engaged from beginning to end! Just when piper thinks she has everything figured out, her world crumbles. She sets Her brother T.J in the path to safety on my to have her best friend show up. Another person she cares about in danger. But if there's one person who can accept her new role in life it's Parker. He definitely gets an eye and an ear full of the supernatural and is thrown in head first! Piper is becoming stronger and is learning new things about herself and her power.. You do not want to mess with the white Raven!!! Stuff is about to hit the fan!
*Spoiler* A really good read! I almost didn't read the series from what some people said about Piper crying all the time but I didn't get that feeling at all. She had some people close to her die so yeah!!!....I think your going to cry. Anyway, loved the 2nd book even though Zander died at the end! I kind of understand why Weil wrote that in there but Piper would have found a way out. She already denounced the stupid "agreement" before Zander died. I really like Zander so it really made me sad/mad that Weil incorporated that in there. I digress. Piper is growing up along with having to make some hard decisions like sending her brother home (but he comes back in the 3rd book). Yay!
I still don't like Zane. He's better in this book than in the other, and at least we know why he was a dick in the first book, but I still don't like him. His brother, in a lot of ways, would be a much better candidate, as he's nicer and actually seems to respect Piper in ways she'll never appreciate. I don't like the sudden appearance of a possible love triangle/square thing. Especially when the new branch comes from her best friend. No. No. No. Just... no. Stop it. There doesn't need to be a love triangle. Or a square. Or anything. Bleh.
The magic, once explained fully, was even more interesting to me and I like how all of it ties in together. I thought it was strange how none of them ever leave the island, but always know what's going on in the outside world though. Strange.
I hope someone grabs these books and rewrite them without all of Piper’s sarcastic comments in the most inappropriate times. Who says things like “Holy banana pants” in near death situations. Seriously, these books could be so much more enjoyable if it didn’t seem as though a 10 year old wrote half of it. 17 and 18 year olds don’t talk like that. Her character needs more maturing.
Once again, so much is being left out. More explanation of the connection with Piper and Zane is needed. Is there a how to be a white raven book Piper can study because she’s terrible at it. And what’s the reason for bringing Parker into all of this? I’m assuming he was just an unnecessary space filler.
Black Crow is as exciting as the 1st book. Piper and Zane struggle for a normal life continues. In this sequel Piper relied so much more on Zane than anyone else or herself. She was still a smart mouth as she had always been, but more in Love. Zane became more and more protective of Piper, that she couldn't go anywhere without him knowing. Which I completely understand. Zane was strongest and most alpha of them all and in this sequel, it showed more of that Zane. I love that Zane and Piper's love for each other was so strong. I'm a romantic and their love and declaring of love made me love this series more. Sure their love for each other was everything to them, but they never forgot that they had to save the world, no matter the cost. Love this series.
