Who doesn't love DK books? They are the most gorgeously illustrated non-fiction books around. This one was great for me--I am obsessed with baseball and trying to learn as much as possible (no easy feat) and this is a great introduction. Filled with beautiful photos and chronicling some of the many amazing moments in baseball's long history, this book was just so much fun to read. It covers a little bit from every era (though this copy is from the library and ends in the 90's so it's a bit odd when highlighting players that were later busted for steroids during that era) and touches on most major moments. Gorgeous and a book I would like to own (albeit the updated version:)

I enjoyed reading about how baseball started out, and how it evolved over 10 decades. The chapters in this book are split up according to time periods: 1900-1919, 1920-1941, 1942-1960, and 1961-1999. Almost every page displays photographs that go along very well with the stories and events. These photographs showed the changes in styles and players' uniforms through the years, as well as the emotions of the players and the fans.
This book not only covered the history of baseball, but educates the reader in many aspects of U.S. history during that time span. I was especially interested in the part covering the years during World War II. Between 1942 and 1945, many professional baseball teams had trouble filling their rosters, because many players were serving in the military. A young fifteen year-old player named Joe Nuxhall became the youngest player ever signed to a major league team in 1944, to the Cincinnati Reds. Another important historical event that occurred in baseball was when Jackie Robinson became the first African American player in the major leagues in 1947.
I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in sports, especially baseball, and to any history buffs as well.

Written in 2000, “Baseball” is meant to be a fun and nostalgic jaunt thru the best people and moments in the game that once was America's pasttime.

Who doesn't like a mixture of photos and history? I could quibble about the highlighted players who we now know took steroids. Instead, I'll praise the writing and the insight and the enjoyment I got from touching base again.

This wonderful book on baseball's finest moments is just such a treasure. Baseball used to be America's favorite pastime. That is waning now with National Football being the predominant sport preferred in the 21st Century.

When baseball was at its height families, friends would gather at bars and their homes to watch the games and definitely the world series. The rivals were strong and many stand the time even in today's world. Baseball is not just a game of hitting a ball with a bat, it's strategy, pitching talent, and the chemistry of 9 men on the field who can make happen for 162 games a year with the hopes of going to the World Series the super bowl of Baseball.

This gem of book demonstrates that this sport still has pep even if it is a dated sport in some people's eyes. There are still die hard fans for their favorite teams just like any other sport.

This is a beautiful book that chronicles the history of baseball. The book is well done. The problem I have is that most of this book is well-known history. Anyone familiar with the game can skip this offering as you will not glean much new. For someone wanting to learn about the game, yes, this is as good as any place to begin.
