வாரம் ஒரு பாசுரம் [Vaaram Oru Paasuram]

ஆழ்வார் பாசுரங்களுக்கு அறிமுகமாக 'வாரம் ஒரு பாசுரம்' என்ற தொடரை 'அம்பலம்' இணைய இதழிலும் 'கல்கி' வார இதழிலும் எழுதி வந்தேன். எளிய சில பாசுரங்களை இஷ்டப்படித் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து ஒரு பக்கத்தில் அதற்கு விளக்கம் தந்தேன். அந்தப் பாசுரங்களில் இன்று வழக்கில் இல்லாத சில அரிய சொற்களையும் சுட்டிக் காட்டினேன். இந்தத் தொடருக்கு வாசகர்களிடையே நல்ல வரவேற்பு கிடைத்தது.
திவ்யப் பிரபந்தம் முழுவதற்கும் ஒவ்வொன்றாக அர்த்தம் சொல்வதில் ஓரளவுக்கு ஆயாசம் ஏற்பட்டுவிடும். மாறாக, சில பாசுரங்களை அடையாளம் காட்டும்போது மற்ற பாடல்களைத் தேட ஆர்வம் ஏற்படும். அதுதான் இந்த நூலின் குறிக்கோள். நான் கோடி காட்டியதை நீங்கள் தேடிக் கண்டுபிடிக்க வேண்டும். அந்த அற்புதமான தேடலில் உங்களுக்குப் பல இரத்தினங்கள் கிடைக்கும்.

'முதல் தொகுப்பில் 52 பாசுரங்கள் வரைதான் எழுதியிருந்த சுஜாதா, சற்று இடைவெளிக்குப் பின் 'கல்கி'யில் மீண்டும் 'வாரம் ஒரு பாசுரம்' தொடர்ந்தார். இறுதியாக மருத்துவ மனைக்குச் செல்லும் முன்பு வரை அவர் எழுதிய பாசுரங்கள் அனைத்துமாக 68 பாசுரங்கள் கொண்ட புத்தகம்.'

About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

The popular Tamil writer Sujatha used to write in a page about a single Paasuram (stanza) from the Naalaayira Thivya Prapantham (the Bhakthi Poetry corpus of the 12 Vaishnava saints, known as Aalwars) in the Tamil Weekly, Kalki. Later they were compiled together and published in a single volume.

Sujatha has selected the best ones and he introduces them in an able manner that is appealing for both the learned and the simple people. Of course, that is why Sujatha could remain the most popular writer in Tamil Nadu.

He says in the introduction that to read a single Aalwar and his/her works in its entirety could be a tough task for the people. Or the vast corpus (some Aalwars have composed more than 1000 stanzas) of a single Aalwar could discourage the reader to begin reading the work. So it is his intention to introduce some lovely Paasurams in a stimulating manner that one would be encouraged to look for more of the Aalwar or for the entirety of the Naalayira Thivya Prapantham.

I enjoyed reading these short pieces of introduction to the selected Paasurams and am looking forward to read more of the Aalwars and their poetry. Sujatha, in that sense has succeeded in his mission of writing this series.

புரட்டாசியிலோ/மார்கழியிலோ பாசுரங்களை பற்றிய புரிதலை ஆரம்பிக்கலாமே என்ற நோக்கத்தில் வாங்கிய புத்தகம் இது.

12 ஆழ்வார்களால் எழுதப்பட்ட நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தங்களிலிருந்து, சில பாசுரங்களை(68) மட்டும் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து, பொருள் விளக்கியுள்ளார், #சுஜாதா.
வாரம் ஒரு பாசுரமாக, வாராந்திரி பத்திரிக்கை ஒன்றில் வெளிவந்ததை தொகுத்து புத்தகமாக வெளியிட்டிருக்கின்றனர்.
இதில் இடம்பெற்றிருக்கும் பாடல்களை, என்னதான் நாம் சீர் பிரித்து படித்தாலும், பல இடங்களில் அவரது விளக்கங்கள் இல்லாமல் புரிபடவில்லை.

வாத்தியார்(சுஜாதா) தன் புத்தக முன்னுரையில் தெரிவித்ததை போல,
முழுமையாய் அனைத்து பாசுரங்களுக்கும் விளக்கம் எழுதாமல், தன் ஞாபகத்திற்கு தோன்றிய அல்லது பிரபந்த புத்தகங்களிலிருந்து ஏதேனும் சில (Random ஆக) பாசுரங்களை மட்டும் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து விளக்கங்கள் தந்திருக்கிறார். மேலும் இப்புத்தகம், வாசகர்களை பாசுரங்களை நோக்கி தேடிச் சென்று படிக்க உந்துதலாக இருக்க வேண்டமென்பதையும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அப்படித்தான் அமைந்தும் இருக்கிறது.

விளக்கங்களுக்கு பின், கடைசி சில வரிகளில், சுஜாதாவின் 'டச்' ஒவ்வொரு பாடல் விளக்கத்திலும் உள்ளது.

செய்யுள் வகைப் பாடல்களை சீர் பிரித்து படித்து பொருள் புரிந்துகொள்ள ஆரம்பித்தால், அள்ள அள்ள குறையாத அமுதமாய் தமிழில் பற்பல பாடல்கள் உள்ளதை அறிவோம் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை! அதற்கு, செய்யுள் பாடல்களின் விளக்கங்களை கொண்ட இப்படியான சில நூல்கள் உதவுகின்றன.

Especially loved his choice of the three pasurams that he picked to begin this book. It just pulls you into the book. Due credit to Sujata for maintaining that tempo till the end
