I’m highly convinced the male love interest is Remy because cheese was mentioned thirty one times and he’s a good cook… hmm I see the clues .
This was such a good introduction back into spooky season. I’ve missed halloween! I had the most fun reading this with Rachel and cannot WAIT to read Sophia’s work next .
I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Personally I felt the magic/world building was very extravagant for a novella . It wasn’t bad but to me it would’ve worked better in a full sized novel . We spend most of our pages learning about why and how they fight demons and our romance is kind of sidelined at time .
Now I have zero problems with the romance being side plot but for a novella so small it just didn’t mesh well for me.
I liked the ending :)

What happens when you combine the worst demon slayer with a demon who refuses to slay!? Two hornballs just trying to survive October in New York City!
Mayari is terrible at demon slaying and she meets and quickly falls for Jonah, a half demon that feeds people instead of feeding on them. I really enjoyed the world building and getting to know the different families that made up the city and their unique powers.
My only complaint is that I wish this was longer and I’m hopeful for more stories because Mayari has like four brothers? Lots of potential!

Ana has done it again! This was such a good read, the perfect mixture of humour, romance and dramaaaa. And honestly, I relate to Mayari’s love of cheese. We’d be friends for sure 😂

I WAS SO READY FOR THIS TO OFFICIALLY OPEN SPOOKY SEASON FOR ME. 😭👻
Unfortunately… the hype was better than the actual book.
And honestly, my biggest issue with Eat Slay Love is simply that it was WAY too freaking short for everything Ana was trying to do. This desperately needed to be a full-length novel—or at least another 200-ish pages—because there were SO many ideas crammed into such a tiny amount of space that none of them really got the chance to shine.
Some authors can somehow give you world-building, character development, lore, romance, emotional attachment, AND a satisfying plot in 50 pages.
Ana Kirk Shaw is not one of those authors.
AND I DON’T MEAN THAT AS AN INSULT because I genuinely think she’s a great author!! But novellas—at least this kind of novella with actual world-building, supernatural lore, backstory, AND romance—might just not be her strongest format.
Because the idea??? I WAS THERE.
The execution??? Baby, where is the rest of it???
There was so much background and world-building that needed to be established, but there simply wasn’t enough room to actually explore any of it. Some things were just straight-up told to us, while other things barely even got THAT much explanation. Then you’re also trying to squeeze an entire romance into the scraps of page space left over and… yeah. 😭
Nothing had time to breathe.
I didn’t really get attached to the world. I didn’t really get attached to the romance. I barely got to know the characters.
I DID really like Jonah, though.
Wish I could say I actually got to fucking meet him. 💀
AND EVEN THE SPICE WASN’T REALLY SPICING???
Like ma’am. If you’re going to give me scraps of the plot, scraps of the lore, scraps of the romance, and scraps of the character development, AT LEAST FEED ME THE SMUT. I AM STARVING OVER HERE.
I also read an ARC, so this very well might have been corrected in the finished copy, but the timeline confused the absolute hell out of me. Everything happens within roughly 84 hours… except they keep talking about a week passing? And then TWO weeks??? Sir, WHERE DID THOSE DAYS COME FROM???
Jonah is also apparently 84.
Except when he is 87.
My demonic king is aging at an ALARMING rate. 😭
So yeah, I definitely think the ARC needed another proofread or two because between the ages and the timeline, I was starting to question my own ability to perceive time.
Overall, though, this was still a fun-ish, cute little demonic read! 👹🖤 I had a good enough time with it, and I think it works as a super quick spooky-season palate cleanser. I just REALLY wish Ana had been given—or had given herself—the space to turn this concept into an actual full-length novel because there was genuinely something here.

Apparently all I needed for spooky season was a demon slayer who is terrible at slaying, a demon who is secretly the sweetest good boy alive, attempted murder, horny horns, and an alarming amount of cheese. 👹🗡️🧀
Eat, Slay, Love was SUCH a fun, fast little paranormal romance. Mayari and Jonah are supposed to be mortal enemies, which Mayari takes pretty seriously considering she tries to kill him TWICE, but unfortunately for her, Jonah is hot, has horns, and is annoyingly difficult to actually hate.
I loved that both of them are kind of terrible at the roles they’re supposed to play. Mayari is an awkward demon slayer attempting to come up with badass catchphrases while also realizing that maybe not every demon deserves to be murdered. Meanwhile, Jonah is basically the world’s least convincing villain with a tragic past, a heart of gold, and an obsession with protecting his people. Give me a villain who is secretly a good boy and I am DONE FOR.
Their banter was so much fun, their chemistry was immediate, and the whole thing moves at approximately Fast & Furious speed from page one. We’ve got insta-lust, enemies to lovers, found family, demon-slaying chaos, Halloween in NYC, and, most importantly, HORNS AS EROGENOUS ZONES. 🤭
And yes, there is spice. And yes, there was a certain getting-to-know-you scene that had my FULL attention. 👀
I also really loved the found family aspect and watching Mayari and Jonah figure out who they actually are outside of everything they’ve been told they’re supposed to be. For such a quick, funny read, there were some surprisingly sweet and emotional moments tucked between all the demon chaos.
My only selfish complaint is that I would have LOVED Jonah’s POV because I desperately needed to know what was happening inside that horny little demon brain.
If you want something quick, spicy, action-packed, a little ridiculous, and extremely fun for spooky season, add this one to your Halloween TBR immediately. 🎃🔪👹

This paranormal novella was a fun, fast-paced, and spicy read. I liked the concept of the forbidden romance between Mayari and Jonah. Their first meeting was very interesting. It was also kind of funny because Mayari is REALLY bad at being a slayer, and Jonah just eats it up. But what I loved the most is how Mayari and Jonah found acceptance with each other, despite what they were taught about each other's kind.
I'm not a huge fan of reading insta-lust and insta-love romances, but I was able to enjoy this one. The banter between Mayari and Jonah was fun and their chemistry was hot. The minute they cave in, you're rushed into A LOT of spice. It was sweet seeing how they always found a way to each other despite being slayer and demon.
My one pause about this read was I felt like it would’ve benefitted being a full novel instead of a novella. I felt that the were was so much world-building packed into this that it deserves more time to be explained. The concepts of the paranormal in the book was intriguing and I personally would’ve liked more time to understand it.
Bonus points for all the Filipino references and influences in this book. It made my little Filipina heart happy seeing things like baybayin being used to create the paranormal universe of the story. Salamat Ana for representing the Philippines in your books!

Eat, Slay, Love by Ana Kirk Shaw was such a fun fast read about a demon slayer and a demon that fell in love against all odds. I love how Mayari was so awkward in the beginning of the book when she met Jonah and tried to come up with a catch phrase lol . I also fell in love with the found family in the book and how Jonah was always looking out for his people. It was such a cute fun and action packed read to get me excited for the fall season . 👹Demon x Slayer. 🗡️Sworn enemies. 🎃Halloween in NYC. 😈Horns as erogenous zones. ⭐️4/5. Release date September 4

This book had me crying and laughing! It was honestly the sweetest most touching story about a demon and a demon slayer, with some super hot 🌶️ times and a lot of fun. I’m absolutely obsessed with both Mayari and Jonah, and I want a Jonah for myself!!!
Jonah is the sweetest demon with a heart of gold and a tragic past, and Mayari the demon slayer is a “terrible” slayer, but partially because she can tell when demons aren’t all bad. They both are super horny despite Jonah being the only one with actual horns (and claws too, is that hot?) and find each other irresistible despite being natural enemies 🥹. Highly recommend!!!

Eat, Slay, Love is a sexy and thoughtful novella about reexamining your childhood beliefs and choosing to form new ones (and hot half-demons. That’s very important). The worldbuilding is light by virtue of being a novella, but it serves its purpose and builds out a New York reminiscent of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters.
Jonah’s soup kitchen family is a unique and wholesome touch that I absolutely adore. The final battle made my blood race almost as fast as Mayari and Jonah’s sleepover (if you know, you know). If you’re looking to diversify your TBR, this novella is the perfect short and spicy addition for Filipino-American History Month in October.
We all know the star of the show was Batibat. The cat always knows.

I received this as an ARC—- I have been looking forward to new material from Ana Kirk Shaw as I really have enjoyed her NYC/Brooklyn series with POC/Filipinx MCs. This work still pays homage to her roots but is a bit different in flavor.
This is a fun and thoughtful quick read featuring two powerful paranormal individuals who, by birthright and nurturing should be mortal enemies. They could have been star crossed but they’ve chosen different paths and let free will and love rule, joining forces to fight together against the ultimate neighborhood boss, find common ground, help mend fences and build bridges between their two once warring communities.
And of course the special powers and abilities of the MCs allows them to have some extra kinky and spicy sexy times, how bad could that be?

4.5 but let her have it. This was a super fun, freaky, hot, fast paced (but paced well) little novella. I loved the family dynamic we got and I think even though it is a shorter story we still got to at least understand that dynamic where it was impactful to the story. The relationship was great, 10/10 banter. The "third act breakup"/mom situation kinda felt like it was forgotten about after the ending and how the story ended. I dont think it was something that ruined the book but maybe just was a little unecessary without the ability to delve deeper because of the shirt story/novella aspect. Still 10/10 for a fun flirty freaky little supernatural romance novella.

Why not start the "ber" months and Spooky season right with this novella? This was my first time reading Ana Kirk Shaw, and she is incredible! I cracked up with Mayari trying to "attack" Jonah right from the first chapter.
The wittiness, banter, tension, and chemistry Mayari and Jonah have is chef's kiss. Also, Mayari’s obsession with cheese should be studied! Jonah is such a do-gooder, helping people in secret—pure sweet cinnamon roll behavior. This was so much fun to read, and I loved every minute of this unique story.

This short novella focuses on a demon-hunter, who is bad at hunting; and a demons, who is bad at demon-ing 😂.
This was short and spicy; but the author managed to create an interesting world and dynamic!
As it’s usual for novellas, it can fall a bit into the insta-love trope.
I really enjoyed how the author explored the theme that not everything is black&white ; and that just because we’ve been taught something all our lives doesn’t mean that it’s true or that we can’t change!
A cute and entertaining paranormal romance novella to add to your autumn TBR!

Okay this was quick but so good! Fast paced, with a bit of instalust and a sprinkle of maybe-bonded(?) and a hooking plot.
Both Mayari and Jonah were little dummies that couldn’t stay away from each other, ancient rivalry and attempted murder included. Their connection was spicy and quick, still somehow they fit perfectly and I truly believe in their happily ever after.
I would have loved to read from Jonah’s pov, even just a chapter would have made me happy but it’s okay, Mayari was cool.
This was a super fun surprise to drop in my inbox and with the most beautiful cover. Ana, thank you for the early copy!

This was a fun little novella! Cheesy at times, for sure – both literally and figuratively. The romance between Mayari and Jonah burned hot and fast but man was it ever cute. The plot was interesting and well paced, I also wouldn’t mind if some of Mayari’s brothers got their very own novellas as well!

I have a serious weakness for villains who are secretly good boys, so Jonah was an absolute delight. Add in the spice, demon-slaying, and a Fast & Furious pace from page one, and you’ve good for the Halloween season.

This story had literally everything… Amazing story, spice, emotion, banter, even multiple one liners that made me snort, all wrapped up in a itty bitty (less than 200 pages) novella. Mayari and Jonah should not have worked, but they absolutely did! You couldn’t help but love their characters. I happily devoured book this in no time at all!

This was my first Ana Kirkshaw book! Mayari and Jonah were so funny. I loved the whole enemies to lovers bit and that Jonah had horns 🤭. Their banter was so fun and Mayari's one liners were funny. And that scene where they were just getting to know one another 👀. Yup. Enjoyed that. This was a nice fast read and perfect for spooky season!

This was a great novella with spicy times, demons and slayers gone rogue. What is there not to love? The humor in it was on point. I love banter and there was plenty in this. Jonah was basically a sassy golden retriever. Loved it for us. The story itself was fast paced but it did not feel rushed to me. I had a fun time reading this.

This was a really fun and quick read. I like the overall idea of hunters and demons in new york. It gives me shadow hunters vibes. But I think my favoirte part is that both the demon and the hunter are notoriously bad at what they are supposed to be and end up finding who they really are.
