Secrets of the past are archaeologist Dr Jeffrey Flint’s speciality.
The deeper they are buried, the better.
Back on home turf in London, memories of excavating Greece’s ancient site of Paleaokastro, and his feelings for glamourous hotelier Lisa, come back to haunt him.
What happened the night of Sebastian Embury’s death?
And while he’s chasing clues buried in history to clear his name, who is chasing him?
Greeks, Romans, Turks, Germans, Americans and eccentric Englishmen throw their shadows across his path, but who and where is Byron?
'Escape to Greece' with Dr Flint to probe twenty-three centuries of Greek history to uncover a tale of romance, heroism, death and betrayal.
Flint makes a welcome return to build upon the great success of his first appearance in 'Shadow In The Corn'.
'Foss . . . combines authentic scholarly detail with breakneck pacing to create a first-rate thriller' Publisher's Weekly on Shadow In The Corn.
Jason Foss was the original pen name of Dr Jason Monaghan under which he began the Jeffrey Flint and Maddy Crowe series of archaeological thrillers. As an archaeologist Jason has published a number of textbooks on shipwrecks and Roman pottery, and his travels have inspired his fiction. His first four novels were ‘Darkness Rises’, ‘Byron’s Shadow’, ‘Shadesmoor’ and ‘Lady in the Lake’. Unlikely twists in his career saw him working as a merchant banker, anti-money laundering specialist and Museum Director. He is an active member of the Crime Writers Association and lives on the island of Guernsey.

His Jeffrey Flint series of archaeology thrillers was first published under the pen name Jason Foss but have been re-released in e-books under his own name. He is a member of the Crime Writers Association. Born in Yorkshire he now lives on the island of Guernsey but travels widely. His career has included being a Roman pottery specialist, shipwreck archaeologist, museum director, anti-money laundering consultant, bank director and financial regulator. His current projects are the Roman small fort at the Nunnery, Alderney and the Romano-Celtic shipwreck from St Peter Port.
The action here is mostly set in Greece, where Flint is wanted for a murder that he just avoided being arrested for many years before. I preferred the English setting of the first book, but the cat and mouse chase is good fun to read – though if I were Lisa I’d have run a long time ago. The ending is a little deus ex machina but it works well.
