Si les mathématiques étaient un genre littéraire, ce serait certainement la poésie. L’élément poétique peut venir par l’apparition d’éléments étrangers et inattendus dans un texte.On peut trouver une certaine beauté aux mots qui surgissent avec leur charge de mystère dans un dialogue où ils n’ont rien à faire. Ils appartiennent à une autre langue. C’est un peu comme quand vous écoutez une chanson dans une langue étrangère à laquelle vous ne comprenez rien et que vous y percevez une force tout à fait mélodieuse et mystérieuse.

About the author

Cédric Villani is a French mathematician who has received many international awards for his work including the Jacques Herbrand Prize, the Prize of the European Mathematical Society, the Fermat Prize and the Henri Poincaré Prize.

In 2010 he was awarded the Fields Medal, the International Medal for Outstanding Discoveries in Mathematics, for his work on Landau damping and the Boltzmann equation. Often called ‘the mathematicians’ Nobel Prize’, it is awarded every four years and is viewed by some as the highest honour a mathematician can achieve.

He is a professor at Lyon University and Director of the Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris, working primarily on partial differential equations and mathematical physics.

Fields Madalyası sahibi, ünlü Fransız matematikçi Villani’nin aynı zamanda iyi bir yazar olduğunu düşünüyorum. Bu kitapta ele aldığı konu, beni uzun süredir çok heyecanladıran matematik ve edebiyat temasının bir ayağı. Villani’nin örneklerle matematik ve şiirin buluştuğu noktaları okura iyi aktardığını düşünüyorum. Sonundaki, Poincare’nin yazısı da okuyuculara harika bir bonus olmuş! Yayınevine not: Yayın ve yayımlanmak sözcüklerinin ve şapka kullamındaki hataların giderilmesini diliyorum.

To be honest, Poincaré's essay "On Mathematical Discovery", in the Appendix, is more interesting than the 10 Chapters preceding it. It is a more interesting read on the creative process of a mathematician (and creativity overall) and it sheds some indirect light on the link between poetry and mathematics - by arguing both, at their highest level, stimulate our unconscious aesthetic senses in irreversible ways.

Bir arkadaşımın ricası üzerine okudum. Bir matematikçinin ve şairin ilham sürecindeki mekanizmayı kıyaslıyor. Şair olmayanın matematikçi olamayacağı üzerine endüktif bir anlatımdan ziyade dağınık kısa tatlı metinlerden oluşan bir anlatı. Matematikçilerin yeniden yaratma sürecinin deneysel ve ölçülebilir olması, ikisine giren ham ürünlerin farkı sebebiyle yaratım sürecinin de farklı olmasından ötürü karşılaştırma bana belki de soyut matematikle o kadar da ilişkilenmediğim için bu biraz çiğ bir bakış mı hissi yarattı bazı kısımları okurken. Yani kitabın da kısacık olması biraz havada bıraktı bazı tezlerini. Ama ama ama üretimi ve üreticiliği, yaratıcılığı düşünmek hep oldukçaa keyifli geliyor. Ne demek istediğini anlıyorum, iyi noktaları var.

Je dois avouer que ce court essai m'a quelque peu laissé sur ma faim, bien qu'il soit relativement intéressant. J'ai simplement trouvé qu'il était un peu creux par moments, mais sur un essai aussi condensé on ne peut pas trop blâmer l'auteur... En revanche, la diversité des thématiques abordées était assez rafraîchissante, et bienvenue :). J'aime beaucoup la plume fourmillante de Cédric Villani, ce mathématicien de talent que j'admire énormément ! Le petit essai de Poincaré sur les fulgurances mathématiques était une très bonne idée. Dommage qu'il n'ai pas été plus commenté.
C'est un essai accessible à tous, même sans bagage mathématique conséquent. A noter que la poésie promise dans le titre de l'œuvre n'est pas plus présente que ça, mais ça reste une lecture agréable :)

J’ai commencé ce livre en pensant que les mathématiques étaient poétiques. Je l’ai fini en doutant sérieusement. En tous cas, le texte de Poincaré qui conclut le livre, sur l'inspiration est plutôt intéressant et permet de finir le livre sur une touche positive.

Livre lu dans le transport allé et retour des studio Harry Potter.

La lecture de cette essai est fort intéressante. Je regrette peut-être de ne pas l'avoir lu lors de l'écriture de mon plaidoyer. Cela m'aurait peut-être permis d'avoir des idées d'arguments supplémentaire.

Cédric Villani naif kişiliğini kağıda dökmüş şekilde dostane bir sohbet yanında da belki bir iç döküş yaşıyor okuyuculara karşı. Kısa kısa birkaç denemeden oluşan kitap matematiğe bir profesyonelin nasıl baktığının aynı zamanda şiirsel bir biçimde anlatılışı.

Livre très intéressant par le mathématicien médaille Fields et grand conférencier français Villani. Pas de notions de maths. Des idées assez hétéroclites, d’abord très axé sur le parallèle avec la poésie puis s’élargit à l’intuition mathématique etc

L'auteur est un peut prétentieux à mes yeux et il y a définitivement des parties que je n'ai pas compris mais c'était quand même une lecture intéressante.
