Beyond The Veil

Charlie Henderson is living a lie. Her real name is Muse and her attempt at a normal life is about to go up in smoke.
When a half-demon assassin walks into her life, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake, Muse must return to the one man she hoped never to see again and ask for help. The Prince of Greed isn’t known for his charity. The price is high, and the cost could tear her apart.

Trapped between the malevolent intentions of a Prince of Hell and an assassin with ulterior motives, Muse must embrace the lure of chaos at her core; the demon inside her, in order to survive.

Devil May Care

Three dead Enforcers in three weeks, their bodies butchered. Muse has seen it before, and when she reads the metal memories in the murder weapon, she sees it all again. Her owner, Damien, is back, and he wants what is rightfully his.

Darkest Before Dawn

When Akil leaves a nine year old half-blood girl on Muse’s doorstep, it’s not long before the demons come hunting, but this time Muse isn’t the target. The Institute, Muse’s immortal brother, and the Princes of Hell, all want a piece of the little half-blood. What’s so special about Dawn, and why has Akil conveniently disappeared just as Muse needs answers?

Two-time DragonCon Finalist & Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award semi-finalist--- "Wait a second. Let's cut to the chase. I write kick-ass urban fantasy & sci-fi novels with conflicted characters, breathless action, and no-holds-barred dialogue. My books may not leave you feeling all fluffy and warm inside, but they will excite you. There will be plot-twists, angst, probably a few dead bodies, and very likely your favorite character will turn out to be the bad guy. Don't say I didn't warn you..."

THIS SERIES IS AN EMOTIONAL TORTURE DEVICE! I might love it...

It's so good I want to cry!
I cannot say the plot is groundbreaking - it is not - but the characters are so complex; layered and complicated...
When Muse is facing an enemy or a situation that she wouldn't believably overcome, the author doesn't pull a Deux-Ex Machina to save the day. Oh, no. Muse fails, a lot, and with each new fail my frozen heart was crushed to a point that had me weeping, and I do not weep. Ever. But the truth is the truth, and Pippa DaCosta has no mercy.
Jokes aside, this is an author who isn't afraid to throw her characters into difficulties, and watch them struggle, crack, fail, and try with all they have. This is how a good writer writes, and lately, I haven't seen much of that, anywhere.

In a world suffocated by series with mediocre characters, and plots that are stretched so thin they make one wonder if there is a plot at all, The Veil Series is a luff of fresh air. It is dark, gritty, sensual, carefully constructed, and properly split; tackling a new subject with each book while building up its main plot.
If you like character-driven stories, you will, almost certainly, like this.

. . .

Agh! It's so good! *wails in torment*

A girl is caught between two worlds: the human and the demon. Being half-blood makes her hated by both, and needed too. An interesting series, well written. At times, the scenes seemed to repeat themselves, but overall, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal and urban fantasy.

A Compilation of the first three books in "The Veil" Series: "Beyond the Veil", "Devil May Care" and "Darkness Before Dawn".

“The Veil Series” by Pippa DaCosta is an amazing mix of epic and urban fantasy that mixes arc-storytelling with crossed-up plots pertinent to each book. “The Veil” features a dark urban fantasy verse, in which the human and the demon realms are situated on both sides of the Veil, which keeps both realms separated and prevent demons from indiscriminate crossing into the human world. Charlie Henderson aka Muse is a captivating heroine, whose enormous character development throughout the series is both amazing, comprehensive and fully credible at all times. Muse is the quintessential embodiment of the underdog, fully relatable from the very first installment in the series. Her hero’s journey follows a classical format, that is nevertheless high original in its implementation, entertaining at all times and fully satisfactory from the beginning until the very end.

The series is fast-paced, action-packed, with complex and captivating characters, enjoyable interactions, a wonderful, mesmerizing, riveting dark verse, interesting, carefully constructed and while fully differentiated between human and demon realm, coherent and extraordinary credible by the rules of UF.

Pippa DaCosta’s writing style is fresh, rich and descriptive, without ever becoming overwhelming. Her easy-to-follow narration allow the reader to submerge into the verse and accompany Muse/Charlie in her ride to freedom, while enjoying every step of the way.

The Veil Series (Books 1-3) A Muse Urban Fantasy

Muse, is a half blood - half human and half demon. Her demon element is fire!! Her life from childhood, in the netherworld, had been one of violence, rape, submission to owners, chained and spat upon by pure blood demons. Akil, the Prince of Greed, took her in, not because he cared, but because he saw what a dangerous demon she could become and how she could help his devious plans for the future, in Boston.
The stories are dark ones, each book telling how Muse grows up, has her own business, her hiding as best she can from demons, on the otherside, who want her dead. How her dreams are destroyed, fear, violence, treachery, entrapment, coercion, being hunted and multiple attempts at her life, fill the pages.
The last book leaves the reader in limbo, as Muse must decide how to prevent demons from coming to Earth, to take it over and enslave the human race. Who should she trust?? So far, no one! They all, demons and humans, want her for her powers, if she dies none of them will care. "Half-bloods never have a happy ending!"

I was intrigued by the story line and characters. The primary character is a bit winey but overall interesting. I enjoyed the interplay between her and the various characters. The idea that our world and hell are only a veil apart was intriguing. I look forward to reading the rest of the stories. Luckily all five are now available. Onward to the next.

Incredible

WOW! What an awesome story full of action, anger, manipulation, love I could go on and on. The characters are so well written they are real, I totally loved Muse and Stefan but Akil has my heart, he is the best type of baddie, one that has part of him that is not totally black and dark. Dawn was also a fabulous character. Thank God there are two more books.

Pippa is a dangerous writer - you work out where the story is going... but then she twists it and laughs.

Reviewed the books separately (5/4/5 stars).

This series was fabulous. Lots of action, non-stop really. A lot of love interest and a few sex scenes but I don't remember them being over the top descriptive which I appreciate.

Urban Fantasy that Keeps You Guessing

Muse, in The Veil Series, is maddeningly predictable in her unpredictability. Just when you think you know her next move she goes off the rails. Gutsy, determined, angry, and resentful she fumbles through her existence with a cast of characters who all use her or abuse her talents. In the end, she wins in her own convoluted fashion. Book 2 gets a little slow but hang in there.

Loved this complex and enticingly erotic series

Engaging characters are thrown into complex situations in this well-written adventure full of pulse raising fights for survival and toe-curling romantic situations that are erotic while still leaving much to the imagination. Good read!

Loved it! It took a minute or two to get to book 2 and 3, but sometimes I fall out of reading for a lil bit. But that's OK because I always come back.
Talk about happy when I got to the end of book 3 to find that 4 and 5 are available! Got some catching up to do!
