Conditions quickly became strained by limited staff, overcrowding and lack of funding. Finally in the 1980's, Pennhurst began closing its doors. Today the remnants of Pennhurst are hard to ignore with its towering fortress of crumbling buildings and rustic grounds. But during the Halloween season, Pennhurst Haunt offers several attractions for the curious or thrill seekers. Ghost Hunt is located in the Mayflower Hall. For several years, I have spent time in this dark, eerie building and have witnessed the paranormal first hand. Based upon the Mayflower Hall building, Pennhurst, GHOSTS OF MAYFLOWER I&II is based on true life haunted encounters. Pennhurst State School and Hospital had been opened from 1908 to 1987. It had closed over allegations of neglect and abuse. The property has since been turned into a Halloween attraction. I have been on several television shows regarding Pennhurst, including GHOST ASYLUM, A&E'S Worlds Biggest Ghost Hunt and in 2021 PORTALS TO HELL (Travel Channel with Jack Osbourne & Katrina Weidman.)

I enjoyed reading this book and Tamera's writing a lot and learned quite a bit about Pennhurst. Working in a place like this is something that takes a lot of courage. Not only would I not want to work in this place nor would I want to visit it either. One woman towards the end of the book wished a ghost would follow her home! Why?

Recommend Tamara's first book on Pennhurst then this one.

Another excellent story on Ghosts is True Haunting by Edwin Becker.

I loved the stories, and the author's retellings of her Pennhurst experience...but the editing needs work...as I read I found typos/misspellings/editing mistakes missed and made notes. I even reached out to her but she claims she doesn't have to money to reissue the books; sad, because they could be so much better with better edits.
