The Ascender's Legacy: Awaken

Rate this book
"When the Ascendant of Storm gathers the scattered, kingdoms fall not from his wrath, but from the weight of their own contradictions finally united."

During a photography assignment just days after his seventeenth birthday, Aodhán stumbles upon the legacy of an Ascendant and awakens the element of storm within himself.

Thrust into a world of magic, war, and powerful cultivators, his destiny unfolds amid thunderous clashes and crackling fury.

But wherever a storm stirs, chaos is quick to follow.

With his existence constantly threatened by both monsters and men, he is forced to abandon the peaceful teachings of the wise monks who had raised him—and adopt a more ruthless creed of survival.

Great start to what promises to be an excellent series. Amazing and highly original world-building that starts off with some standard LitRPG tropes but is quickly expanded with new and original ideas. Interesting characters with feelings beyond grower stronger, though that remains one of the main driving forces.

I wonder how many of us had to look up how to say MC's name?

Anyways, a weird start to this one. MC is an orphan who was dropped off at a monastery, for some reason, but is just a high school kid doing a project for his photography class? What? Why was he a monk? Was he a monk? He was raised by monks but goes to a normal high school? Where is this? It says Earth but i was distracted by how odd this setup is. Would have been a lot cooler for him to be a monk who was isekai'd instead of just a regular teenager.

Then he gets isekai'd, and the following chapters where he gets his OP power up are kind of written confusingly. Immediately starts trying to use his powers, without any explanation of how it works, instead of trying to find how to survive. And don't get me started on all the names. Good lord. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean every name has to be weird.

a good first book

A good leveling system that’s not stat heavy and a good amount of action. Didn’t expect the academy arc but I’m not mad at it. I’m interested to see just how powerful the MC can get.

I really enjoy this series. It avoids all the pitfalls I hate and the world building/lore just continues to grow. Don't hesitate, just read it.
