Lanai I’m living my best life with a clean house and no man behind me to drive me insane. I love Hendrick…from a distance! That’s why when he calls to tell me about a couple’s retreat, I ain’t trying to hear it.
Hendrick Going through mediation with Lanai is proving to be a challenge. But things take an interesting turn when Dr. Hubert suggests we go on a couples’ retreat in Hawaii. I’m hoping it’ll mend our bond, but Lanai isn’t so easy to convince.

3.5⭐️ I wasn’t mad at this story. A marriage in trouble and forced proximity? I’m intrigued.
I thought the cause of their marital problems was realistic, too. It’s not always the big things like abuse, infidelity, or financial stress that cause a marriage to crumble. Sometimes it’s simply losing sight of each other while you’re busy building a life together, allowing a bunch of small resentments to pile up over time.
And as much as it pains me to not necessarily have a resolution (because I NEED A HEA IN MY BOOKS 😩), I appreciated that the author didn’t rush them back toward reconciliation. Instead, we got to see them each make an intentional decision to give their relationship an honest try and figure out whether they could find their way back to each other.
Overall, this was a decent read. I wouldn’t have minded it being a little longer, but I think the author accomplished what she set out to do.
It seemed like all Lanai and Hendricks needed was to spend some time together to really see what they were missing in their relationship and get to the root of what caused their split in the first place. Although this was a novella, and they did talk about the issues they had that caused their separation, it would have been nice to actually see some of that on page in the book. At the end of the day it seemed like they lost some of the spark that they used to have before getting married but after talking about what they felt and admitting the love was never lost they were willing to do the work to make it work. It was a nice second chance romance.
It was a beautiful second chance book. Sometimes, you have to put effort into making it work. I am glad they were able to work and figure out where they went wrong. Many people are ready to quit and not work on it. It could be small and large things that need to be addressed. I would recommend for couples to read this book. It could help them look and explore what is going in their marriage.
4.25 Lanai and Hendrick’s story and reconnection was thoughtful and realistic as they had work to do to get their relationship together and back where it needed to be. Hendrick was really determined for a possible second chance and was willing to work for it. Liked how Lanai realized that everyone has quirks that can make them difficult to be around; she tried to put up really strong front in fighting her feelings.
This was a sweet, short read. I'm happy that this couple was able to come together. Communication and trust is key in any relationship. If people learn to communicate effectively, there would be a lack of trust issues. Thanks, Tina Martin, for a great read.
Novella on how life and ambition interrupts the love a couple have for each other. What makes this book so compelling is this is a common truth for most marriages. The love gets lost due to priorities and desires changing. Glad Nai & Henry found their way back into each other.
I love a good second chance romance! This was a decent read, though I didn’t think the FMC, Lanai, had any true reason to separate from her husband, Hendrick. Most of her concerns could have been resolved with communication. I’m glad they were able to rekindle their marriage.
Marriage on the rocks. Marriage is Lanai and husband of seven years, Hendrick Valliant. Henny is fully committed to the love of his mouth, while Lanai is steeped deep in doubts bec Henny is often working and she feels alone. She is prepared to call it quits but Henny isn’t ready to throw in the towel. Could a summer vacation to Paradise change the trajectory of this crumbling marriage?
Beautifully written! I commend Author Tina Martin, she has created genuinely warm & relatable characters in Lanai & Henderick. More so, “Second Chance Summer” utilized the forced proximity not anticipated but effective & well executed in challenging their acclimated values.
New concept of a book written as a marriage counselling inform of couple retreat in hawai. Really loved but was bad gor being short novella needed a big book with a lot flaws couple who deals with their emotions
Great read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Lanai and Hendrick are separated married couple. After years of marriage life and misunderstanding got in the way. This is their journey to reconnection and forever love.
So first of all… Booooooo 🍅 🍅 🍅 because this lil book was actually a mirror. We women can be difficult for no reason. But that’s the beauty of this quick read. It was short but realistic in the way we can have greatness in front of us but will mess it up.
Not two stars because its not good. But because this really should've been a full length because theres so much missing from this couple that needed like 100 more pages
Communication is one the most important things in a relationship and Henni and Nai forgot to do that you have to tell your partner when you're hurting.
