Rumor Has It
Not yet published
Expected 15 Dec 26Wren Eames is on top of the world. She's a rising star in women's soccer, her girlfriend is literally a supermodel, and she was just selected as a starting forward for the Women's National Team.
Becky Rothschild is a superstar defender determined to prove herself to her family and her new team. She's known for her aggression, physicality, and strategic play. Making the Women's National Team would be a dream come true for her if only her arch-nemesis hadn't also made the starting lineup.
Can these longtime rivals keep their drama to a minimum? Or will their behavior on and off the pitch get them kicked off the team? Only one thing is certain—all the rumors about the nature of their relationship won't help.
Narrated in duet style.

Emily K. Hardy delivers again. Her knack for writing pining is just, mwah *chef’s kiss. We’ve got Becky and Wren, rivals on the soccer pitch, but they have a history that involves both of them having a broken heart. Yes, it was a dumb misunderstanding from when they were 16 years old. It does get resolved and no, there are no explicit scenes from when they were teenagers.
The soccer part was pretty good. I don’t enjoy sportsball books that much, but it wasn’t too technical, so I didn’t have to skim those parts. Did I mention the pining? Cause these two are down bad for each other and it’s written just beautifully. As in “I Really Do,” there are some secondary characters, but they are fairly minor in terms of the plot. I did love Wren’s step sister, Barbara.
It’s a really slow burn, so get ready for that. Once things get spicy it’s fire. It’s really good. I had a great time reading this and I will definitely listen to it once it comes out on audio.

September 21, 2026Meh - I love a good sports romance but this was just really badly written. It read like fanfiction from 2010. The characters sound immature, keep calling each other "dude" and the root cause of their enmity is some ridiculous miscommunication and could have so easily been avoided - it was just frustrating.

If a book promises that about a soccer player, I am first in line to check that book out. I am happy to report that this book was everything I hoped for and so much more. So much soccer, great MCs and a wonderful second chance story. Not a lot of angst that I love, but with this author I forgive that fact and just love the great writing and amazing feelings she is able to put on paper. I will for sure also get the audiobook when available since this is a story I will love to go back to. Highly recommended!

Realllly liked this one. Gotta deal with a little miscommunication trope, but I feel like it’s okay bc they push through It pretty fast and It was something that happened when they were young. They had really good chemistry. Woulda liked a little bit more time at the end, but mainly I just didn’t want to stop reading It!

Emily does it again!!!! I can’t say enough good things about this book. I was hooked from the start and not only fell in love with Wren and Rebecca, but all the side characters! Wren’s sister was so sweet and how she met Rebecca and how quick they got along! 🥰 Wrens dad watching all Rebecca’s games as he thought this would happen melted my heart! The coaches coming clean about their bets was hilarious!
I loved the addition of the epigraphs! As someone who was a big fandom twitter user in high school it made me so nostalgic and lol so many times!
Definitely will be adding this to my list of books that will consume my thoughts on the daily and I will definitely be rereading multiple times!

Emily K Hardy is once again showcasing just how talented she is and I am completely here for it.
I absolutely adore both Wren and Becky. I found myself entirely rooting for these characters because of how developed they were. There was true depth to both protaganists and the writing really complimented the emotional side to the story as well. I particuarly liked the shifting of perspectives and being able to see the mindset of both main characters.
I always look forward to books by Emily and she seems to highlight her increasing talent with every novel I read by her. I look forward to the next one!

I was really looking forward to this, especially because I loved the author's book: I really do. But this book felt very immature to me. I also think if the timeline was spaced out a bit more it would have made the story more believable.

A football romance with punch.
Wren is a delightful character who embodies a 22 year old sports star, with all her confidence and angst. The story truly delves into the anxieties that being in the spotlight brings.

Una historia cuqui con lesbianas que juegan a fútbol. El desarrollo de personajes me ha gustado mucho, sobre todo el de Becky.
