Against her parents’ wishes Cassie chooses a career with the highly dangerous Landers, replacing the previous Medic and Science Officer who lost their lives on a mission.
Whilst out on the mission to find an inhabitable planet they encounter Dahl a shape-shifter who through his DNA helps them terraform a planet so that they might inhabit it.
Cassie feels a deep connection with Dahl which she herself cannot understand. The fact that Dahl shape-shifts into the man of Cassie’s dreams before they become intimate makes the fact that she has sex with an alien a little less weird.
Bear in mind that this is a short story and moves at warp speed. All in all this was a very enjoyable read which I managed to finish in under an hour, if that.
