This book was pretty good. It brings you right into what Jack Sparrow is doing. It had pictures from the movie and the storyline lined up to movie very good. I love Pirates Of The Caribbean! (POTC)
It was a quick and easy read. Was done with it in like an hour.
Considering how big of a world this one is - I was very disappointed by the fact that there is noticeable lack of world building. I have only ever watched snippets of the movies so I cannot say for sure if this was a faithful adaptation. What I can say is that the easier route was taken in pumping this one out. I think a good majority of us know a bit about the world and we know that there are fantastical things in the seas and that Jack never disappoints.
It did read like it was a summary to a movie so maybe it did suffice to work for a specific audience but even with that, children's books ought not be dummied down. Kids understand these things. Hell, they have such vast imaginations it's a shame when they are not stretched out.
Caption Jack Sparrow is on board his precious love 'The Black Pearl' with his crew to find the what lies inside Davy Jonas's secret chest, but how will he do that without the help of his so-called friends William and Elizabeth? They both join Jack in this adventure filled with sea beasts, cannibals and other sea terrifying beauties. What did the notorious Davy Jonas hide in the chest and why was Jack after it so desperately?
If you have seen the movie, how can you miss the book filled with such adventures and senses of humour? Well, I couldn't so I had to read this book. Captain Jack Sparrow has always been my favourite character just because of Jhonny Depp and no one can do justice to Jack Sparrow than Depp himself. I lived the movie once more after reading this book and it's worth reading. Best for kids and adults too! Let's sail, shall we? Aye Aye Captain!

I've said it before, but I really enjoy Irene's adaptations. She really captures the best parts of the movie without making you feel like you're reading from a script. I've only seen Dead Man's Chest once years ago and this really makes me want to watch it again. I had forgotten so much. If I could change anything, I would have liked for her to add the scene at the end with the dog on the cannibal island just to wrap that thread up nicely, but still, lovely read.
This is the second book I read of this series (I thrifted three of them - yes I still consider myself lucky for this) and eventhough I think the writing could be a lot better, it was really enjoyable nonetheless.
I just absolutely love POTC, so being able to read one of my favourite movies is something I'll happily cherish. I knew exactly what was happening at any given point and I could easily visualise the scenes because, well, I've already seen them. I will always love Davy dramatically playing his organ as it soundtracks the crew ominously, and that guy raving about the delicious "long pork" he trades with the cannibals in exchange for spices.
One thing that I kept stumbling on is how details got changed around and that sometimes whole items or stories were added, that I don't think were in the film? (I never saw Tia Dalma's face etched into a part of Davy's organ or a white dress in the chest that housed the love letters and his heart) But later on I decided to see it as if these things were in the script that didn't make it into the film and that made it a lot more fun. It was a little bit like I got the behind the scenes kinda thing. Much more fun to imagine that than think the writer didn't pay attention to the movie, for sure. 😂
Things I liked: being able to read one of my favourite films. The little additional information in certain scenes. Having time to really understand the plot (as an autistic person it takes me a lot longer to pick up on things because I'm too busy trying to process everything, so I miss things (hence why I often rewatch things)). The added information to certain scenes.
Things I disliked: some of my favourite quotes being left out (Tia Dalma going "Jack Sparrow does not know what he wants"). Little details being changed, insignificant enough, but as someone who's really on the details it was a bit annoying.
So I may be biased, but this was a good book to me. I feel the obligation to take at least half a star off because of the beforementioned things, but I just generally had a wonderful time reading this. 🏴☠️
The only reason it took me two days to read this book is because I started it in bed last night and finished it this morning. If I wanted to, I probably could have read it in one sitting. The writing is smooth for the most part but there are some grammatical errors. The story closely follows the movie but skips out on some things, such as the tumbling and rolling down the hill in the cage of bone and “I’ve got a jar of dirt, I’ve got a jar of dirt!” But reading it helped me to get a grip on the true plot of the movie and that was nice. Being a cheesy adaptation of the movie (which is an incredible film!!) it really can’t earn more than three stars in my opinion but it was still good.
Adapted by Irene Trimble Based on screenplay written by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio (Characters: + Stuart Beattie & Jay Wolpert) Rating: 5/5
One of the best fictions I have read so far! Despite having watched the movies, the book kept me hooked regardless. It was lying there in my book collection since years, as I did not buy it but it was a piece I took from someone else’s collection and boy am I glad I did.
3.5 stars! Good, quick read about one of my favorite movies! The writing is pretty good and I read it in basically one sitting. I wished there was a little bit more description and the end scene with 'Jack's funeral.' But I loved the added dialogue and scenes! (Deleted scenes from movie?) They really helped me understand and love the movie even more!
I couldn't actually finish the book. The book itself is not the kind I would actually go for, it was confusing and I don't feel like I would enjoy much even if I did finish it. Not my type of book, but some people might find it good, just not me.
Summary: The fantasy book “Pirates of the Caribbean Sea – Dead Man’s Chest” is the sequel, written together by many different authors, following the setting of the movie of exactly that book.
The book starts with Jack Sparrow having a new heading, after he found a mysterious tiny black spot on his palm. Only later, the reader gets to know that people that have the black spot are having debts with the captain of the Flying Dutchman, a ghost ship, where, according to legends, the captain has taken out his own heart and hid it somewhere on an island, enabling himself an eternal life, free from any positive feelings, such as love. As Jack doesn’t want to become one of the captain’s slaves for his entire life, he is trying to find a way to prevent a future of slavery from happening. The solution he found is about finding the heart of the captain and stab it, so that the captain himself will die together with the heart, since this is the only thing that still keeps him alive. Two other main characters are Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner, who both are helping Jack unwillingly, since they were forced to bring Jack’s magic compass, which would show the way to the thing that a person desired the most, to a military officer Lord Beckett, as they would otherwise be thrown into jail for pirating. The plot results in the death of Jack Sparrow, who got taken down into the ocean by the ‘pet’ of the captain of the Flying Dutchman, a kraken, while the heart of the captain has been found and stolen by an old acquaintance of Elizabeth and Will.
I wouldn’t really recommend this book to anyone, except that person has a strong desire for lots of cliché, where you can already predict the end of the story. Personally, I found the story very dry and boring. It might be a good book for young children at an age of 10-12 to read, as the book doesn’t include many cruel scenes.
BIRP RESPONSE #4 – Evaluation. How does this book compare to others you have read? What makes it an effective/ineffective piece?
This book is very different from any other book I have read so far, as it is written according to the movie’s script and therefore is containing more drama than a good plotline. The story might be effective for a movie, especially a fantasy movie, as people would usually like it to have more drama in there. But as a book, the plot is very boring, straight forward and predictable, which is one of the worst features a book can have in my opinion, as there wouldn’t be any reason to finish reading this book anymore when you already know how it is going to end. Also, there were many unnecessary, ‘dumb’ situations, such as in the final scene, where the main characters suddenly started to fight about whether they should stab the heart of the captain or not, knowing that the enemies were getting closer with each second, they wasted on discussions. That was one of the scenes where I only wanted to give up on that book. And because of many similar situations like the described one, this book is a very ineffective piecework to me, as it met all the criterions that would make a bad book in my opinion. Overall, I was very disappointed with those books of the series “Pirates of the Caribbean Sea”, as I have often heard people talking about how good the story is.

I chose this book because i had good description back to it. This books genre is fiction. The setting takes place at sea. Davy Jones live beneath the sea, Captain jack sparrow has a golden tooth and is dressed vary nice ,Will Turner like this princes named Elizabeth Swann, Elizabeth Swann is a princes on this island. The start of the book is like this they throw these coffins in to the water and this bird comes over to this coffin and starts peaking at it and this gun goes off and captain jack sparrow unlocked the thing and grasped a lag and patted to shore then go on a ship and left with Barbarossa and Will Turner. The middle is the leave jack back on this island and then will turner goes to get him and he get capture and then Elizabeth dressed up to go get them both and get them and get out of there ,the End is where they find Davy Jones locker and steal it and then it becomes a war between the two ships and they give back the chest. The main conflict is that jack sparrow took the chest and Davy Jones keeps jack hostage till they get the chest back. The give the chest back but do something mean to them take the hart that was in side it.I liked the book because it brought out the adventures in the story

4: a) The Black Peal and her captain were gone. And, already, the world seemed a darker place without them. b) These passages are last part of this story. Captain Jack Sparrow were chased by Davy Jones, He wanted Jack's soul. So Jack and his pirates tried to beat Davy Jones. To beat Davy Jones, they had to find the chest. In the chest, there was Davy Jones heart. If they kill the heart, Davy Jones will die. Finally, it seemed that Jack had got the chest, But there wasn't heart in the chest. Jack was caught by Kraken. This story ends these passages. I am anxious about what Jack become. I'd like to read the next part of this story.
5: Pirates of Caribbean series are well known all over the world. I really enjoyed reading this book. But I didn't read "The Curse of the Black Pearl." So I couldn't understand some parts well. Moreover, I'm anxious what Jack become. I'd like to know the next part oh this story. I'm wondering whether there is "Worlds End" in library. If there is no book in library, I must go rental shop to get DVD. I really recommend this book.
This is a quirky pirate pick-me-up. Simple without a lot of detail. I would love to read the adult novel versions of these books. There is something missing from these books and I realized what it was—my favorite word that Jack used throughout the movies—“savvy.” His strange behavior was amplified in this story as he was being hunted by Davy Jones to pay his debt to him. I love when he hangs onto his jar of dirt for dear life. I thought Davy Jones was formidable and so much fun to watch on the big screen, sadly that flair was lost in translation for the book. It was watered down. Pintel and Ragetti were very entertaining with their bickering and stupidity. One scene I rather enjoyed was when Gibbs noticed the Black Spot on Jack making him a marked man. “Pintel and Ragetti watched the old pirate turn three times and spit for luck. Not knowing why, they did the same, just in case.” They crack me up. Jack’s indecisiveness due to his paranoia was laughable. His crew is confused about his behavior “set sail in a general…that way direction.” Fun read.
