In a post apocalyptic world, a woman struggles to survive until reunited with her son, only to bring grave danger to the small band of people he leads. Choosing to sacrifice herself to protect the clan, Ann Murdoch discovers how resourceful she can be in the face of torture and death.
She knew revenge was a luxury even as she yearned for it, her daughter horribly murdered. And Ann has killed a boy, albeit in self defense, and obviously someone connected to him didn’t view luxury in the same way. And that someone is well past the yearning stage…
I read about this author when she was interviewed in my local daily newspaper and decided to read one of her many books. I chose her first published book. She has written at least 45 books since then.
This is not the genre I usually read or enjoy, but once I started this book I literally couldn't put it down. Ms Scott is a talented storyteller and knows how to keep one suspenseful. The characters are believable and admirable in the face of their post-apocalyptic predicament.
This story provides a frightening, but perfectly logical, look at what might take place if the unthinkable (nuclear war) actually took place and what might befall those of us who had survived the initial catastrophe while trying to rebuild our lives.
