Knowing the Bible

Daniel: A 12-Week Study

Rate this book

The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week study lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible.

The book of Daniel has all the makings of a great story: memorable characters, cliff-hanging moments, and incredible visions. Yet we miss the point if we pay more attention to Daniel’s story than we pay to Daniel’s God. In this helpful study, readers will see how this fascinating biblical book ultimately points to the sovereign Lord of history, who rules over all earthly kingdoms and whose plans cannot be thwarted.

I really appreciated the good mix of thoughtful questions and concise, meaningful commentary. I loved how each week had gospel, whole-Bible, and theological connections. I gained a lot from those short but deep explanations.

Did NOT love the pacing, especially because Week 11 had like 3 Bible chapters and probably needed the most time to digest - what was going on 😅 I would have also liked a little more on the different views of the vision interpretations; this presented one stance, but a group member supplemented with some information about other perspectives and it was fascinating.

Besides that, this served my group well! I’ll have to revisit the series in the future.

We did this study in our small group-- I think the format was useful for an open discussion both via zoom and in-person.

I enjoyed this much more than the MacArthur one. I particularly liked the Gospel Connections segments after each chapter.

helped carry our bible study convo but the questions were a bit too formal and required sort of contrived answers

This really helped me to see the connections between the book of Daniel and the gospels and acted as an aid to begin the task of understanding the broader theological themes.

It's short but provides enough context to guide readers. I used it as supplementary material for a Bible Study on Daniel and people seemed to find it useful. Do I agree with them on every theological detail? No, but who does? Overall, it's a helpful introduction and supplement to further study.

I enjoyed studying the book of Daniel with this to guide me. There is some great questions here that some will make you go researching to fully understand what is being said.
