With a dragon ravaging the countryside, the Prince of Dragons sends out his best man, Patrick Markel. His orders—to secure an abandoned castle and stop the foul beast from stealing more maidens. This shouldn’t be an issue for an Elite of Eternity
But there is more going on than there seems. When other dragons are sighted in the area, the town sends their maidens to their new lord for protection… and Patrick’s life becomes a lot more complicated. With the dragon he’s hunting acting odd and a castle filled with women distracting him, how is he supposed to do the job he was sent for? And what are the ladies going to do when they find out he’s the other dragon in the area?

This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed it and it was a really quick read which is a good thing since I ended up tangled in a wee bit of confusion. Anyhoo I am glad to be dipping my toes back into genres that I haven't read in a while. I'm trying to avoid burning myself out on genres because that just leads to me not reading books in that genre for years which isn't good because I miss out on good books.
I was drawn into the story pretty quickly. It was an easy read and I'm so proud of myself for being able to enjoy it despite the jackhammering going on outside. Why can't they be silent? I should send Patrick after them. A town is terrified when a dragon attacks so Patrick and his men arrive to help the people out but they have a secret. I wasn't confused at all even though this book is part of a series so you can read this as a stand alone.
So if you enjoy books that have some action and a dash of romance that isn't overwhelming this is sure to hit the spot for you. It also has a good message in it about not judging people. A group of dragons are trying to help the people who are terrified which is totally understandable. I really like the ending and look forward to reading more books by this author.
Fingers crossed that all is well now. I'm new to the blog touring thing and didn't realize that I had to do a review. I'm just glad I was able to read this book so quickly and enjoy it.

Anyone who read my review of Wetzel's On the Accidental Wings of Dragons last week knows that Wetzel really changed the way I look at the fantasy genre. I've long been apprehensive about the genre due to some... less than fantastic experiences, but here today I'm a changed reader. Coming off the scales of Accidental Wings, I wasn't sure how Wetzel was going to follow that one up. I can say without question that Castle was every bit as good, if not better!
Let me start out with my single critique of this story. It needed MORE! Castles is what the team over at Crimson Tree are branding 'the first archive' of the series, essentially a prequel novella. While I love me a prequel novella any day of the week, it isn't often that I find myself begging for one to be a full novel. This time I definitely was. I would have loved to have seen this be not just a prequel novella, but a full standalone prequel novel. I know even authors have to sleep, but another 100 pages of this story would have really made my life!
Castle, as previously mentioned is, indeed, a prequel. Wetzel has stated that it makes place nearly a millennia prior to Accidental Wings (which takes place present day). The story works on so many levels, but I think the best part about it was its' timeless quality. While one could definitely imagine the castles and village lifestyle of the thirteenth century, it read just as though it were happening today. As I mentioned in my previous review, one of my favorite parts about Wetzel's writing of this series is how it just 'happens'. Wetzel doesn't feel the need to bog the story down with science and history, she just tells the story. And she tells it to perfection.
As a prequel novella, this was a very quick read, clocking in at just shy of 120 pages. That's not to say I didn't finish feeling fully satisfied. I may have liked this plot even more than that of Accidental Wings, seriously. It was that awesome. When a rogue dragon begins terrorizing the maidens of a small village, Patrick Markel and his men are dispatched to investigate and take down this threat to dragon-kind before matters get out of hand. Patrick never imagined he'd find what he did, or fall for one of said maidens. The plot was really intriguing and kept me guessing until the very end. It was so exciting with action at every turn. Much like a 'one-shot' story, Patrick's tale is wrapped up rather nicely in these pages, but who knows what the future may hold for he and Kathryn!
What really helped to make this novel shine were the characters. In true Wetzel fashion, each character is crafted with the perfect amounts of smarts and spunk. There's no character quite like a Julie Wetzel character. Like her other series and works, with such a large cast of supporting characters, you never know who may show up in the background so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
Since this one was a shorter read, I'll cut this one on the short side as well. In this first Dragons of Eternity archive, Wetzel has crafted a short, yet fulfilling tale full of suspense, magic, fantasy, and the perfect amount of romance. A definite must-read, Wetzle has secured herself a place on my 'best of summer' shelf! In a story so brilliantly written, what's not to love? Armor yourself up and get ready to enter the battle, A Castle for Dragons is not to be missed!
With this all being said, it should come as no surprise that I am granting A Castle for Dragons a near-perfect 5-star review. I can honestly say that this series has taken me by complete surprise and left me agog with delight. I cannot wait for the next exciting installment in the Dragons of Eternity series, due out this fall. Be on the lookout. Add this series to your TBR, you have my guarantee that you will not be disappointed!
"3.5 out of 5 stars, at the orders of his Prince (and adopted brother) Patrick, with is contingent of warriors, comes into town to take care of its rogue dragon problem and become their new Lord of the Castle. Things don’t go as smoothly as he would hope but with the towns “support” behind him, he’ll try his best to protect them with everything he has. Now if he can only find a way to let the town know that he and his men are the things they fear the most too... dragons.
With a “historical” feel, this is one fantasy romance that sets its readers up for an unexpected adventure based around fascinating characters!"
As a fan of Julie Wetzel's Kindling Flame series when you throw in the word dragons it makes it rather difficult to resist. So my advice is DON'T EVEN TRY!!! Fantasy fans will love this new take on Dragons and people who don't normally read Dragons will love the book because of the story. It really is a win win situation. This is technically the prequel to On The Accidental Wings of Dragons but works beautifully as a stand alone story and I would suggest grabbing a copy today! Loved it!
3.7 I like this series though this book lacks funny and witty banter what surprised me Julie Wetsel's writing ability. The 1st book is conremporary while this one is medieval and they are both written and narrated very well within their time period. Overall this dragon series is a fun reading! I will read the next one!
Readers will be placed directly in the line of fire early on and sent into battle time and time again in "A Castle for Dragons", with explicit scenes that are all consuming.
I absolutely love the Dragons of Eternity. So glad I found Julie Wetzel's stories. If you enjoy a little romance, a little humor, a little action and adventure with dragons added to the mix t,then you too will enjoy these stories and fall in love with the Dragons of Eternity just as I have. Read on
Another great read. Although I ended up reading this book later and at first was a bit confused as to where this fit in but figured it out. I really like this world of dragons.
Although I would like to have more of an ending or something. I kinda want to know what happens to them or what happens next.
Another fun, adventurous read in the world of dragons. So good I read in one sitting, even though it was more historical fiction (my lord/ my lady). Can't wait what else the author has in store for us. I hope we get to revisit main characters from the first book :-)
I like Dragon books but just didn't think I would enjoy this story. Not one to read 17th century stories. Surprise I enjoyed it vary much. Going to buy more of her books.
Another fantastic story in The Dragons of Eternity world. With a great new cast in a historical setting, this is a great read that you don't want to miss.
I have very much enjoyed each of the three books I have gotten into my kindle and I truly hope Julie keeps on writing more and more of them. I love dragons!
I really enjoyed reading this book, if you have not read it yet you should add it to your TBR right away. it was such an easy read! it has only taken me a few hours to finish it. really enjoyable
A fun look into Wetzel's world but waaaaaay before the rest of the series. This is very much a prequel but it was still great to read about the dragon world.
