We are completely isolated in DARKNESS. Even our SHADOWS leave us.

My soul tethered and owned by his. My dark, beautiful enigma. How did I ever survive before you?
~ CEREUS

“Do your demons not drown you, Ryan?”
“I am my demons, and I know how to swim.”

“I know who I am, what I am and what you are.”
“What am I, Ryan?”
“You’re mine, and I won’t let anyone take you from me.”

Ryan was anything but normal, he was a king amongst men to me. A dark king forged from sin and he carried that aura around with him like a cloak, dousing him in a warning.
Only I didn’t see it as a warning. I saw it as an INVITATION.
~ CEREUS

“You’re a black hole Ryan and everything near you gets sucked in and destroyed.”

He was so comfortable in the dark, within himself, that I was jealous of his freedom and longed for him to help free me of them.
He gave me everything but him completely and my body ached along with my heart for him to fully devour me.
“You’re mine, and I won’t let anyone take you from me.”
Normal people will never know just how magical, how beautiful the darkness can be.
“When you’ve become lost to the undercurrent of the darkest sin, it’s your choice whether you drown or fight to the surface and breathe.
The pull to the dark side has always been...
DEADLY”

“He gave me everything but him completely and my body ached along with my heart for him to fully devour me.”

“...maybe what I feel for Cereus is only a fraction of what others feel when it comes to love but it was powerful, and overruling everything I wanted for us.”

My soul tethered and owned by his. My dark, beautiful enigma. How did I ever survive before you?So, down to what's actually going on in this book. We're back with Cereus and Ryan jet setting around the world with their many identities and we learn Cereus is still having problems merging her psyche; accepting her true identity. Ryan is doing his best to help her along in an effort to preserve their life together but he can only help so much. Cereus gets a friend in this book and this just proves to be an added complication of Ryan and Cereus' dynamic. Georgie, the new friend, doesn't fit well with Ryan and Cereus, she's a pawn in the power struggle between the two and she ends up creating immeasurable friction between the two.
The powerful intensity from being by his side could be compared to none, he was it for me, and I worshipped him. I fed on the remedy of his allure willingly.Ryan's in a unique position in this book, for the first time he wants to consider someone else's feelings and wants into his plans. He wants to help Cereus and be in her presence despite the obstacles her mental health may pose. He's confident that because they are so alike he's the only person who can lead her into this new life they're trying to build.
Ryan was anything but normal, he was a king amongst men to me. A dark king forged from sin and he carried that aura around with him like a cloak, dousing him in a warning. This novella was really good, the timeline switched between past and present and we had several POVs so it requires a bit more attention to ensure you don't get lost in the story. The ending for this one was a little devastating. I was not expecting the way it ended. And then Ker Dukey further twisted the knife when I read the acknowledgements and learned we'd get no more Ryan and Cereus. That was it. I am now tasked with finding some measure of comfort in the conclusion we’ve been provided despite the fact that I’d love more of this story! I’ll learn to be content with the amount of Ryan and Cereus that Ker Dukey has provided (but if she wanted to write more I’d totally read it. Just saying.)

“He possesses the ability to breathe superiority inside me, making me feel strong and as tall as the highest mountain…jagged and unclimbable.”
“My pulse pounds heavily in my ears, the scream of my inner beast tearing at my façade wanting its freedom, and the beast will get her wish…”
“The powerful intensity from being by his side cold be compared to none, he was it for me, and I worshipped him. I fed on the remedy of his allure willingly.”
