This was definitely not what I was expecting flipping into these pages…and yet it was delicious.
I love siblings and the backstory for them was lowkey crazy.
I enjoyed the fact that they had a Bonnie and Clyde vibe going and the mission they were on. The FMC part with her rival from high school was 🥵🥵 and twisted 😈
The ending caught me totally off guard and I love that.
My one critique and it kept me from giving this 5 stars was I wish it was longer. I know it’s a novella but I wanted more from the story.
Because beginning to end was INSANE! 4.5 very well

The Horror Had Teeth. The Romance Needed More Bite.

Some books scare you. Some books disturb you. This one mostly made me sit there like… 👁️👄👁️
Because apparently “Halloween horror” was not enough. We needed murder, obsession, trauma, taboo, and enough red flags to decorate an entire haunted house. 🎃🚩
Darling Sinners knows exactly what kind of dark little nightmare it wants to be—and I’ll give it credit for committing. This is erotic horror first, with psychological thriller and slasher elements woven through obsession, revenge, religious trauma, violence, and moral corruption. It doesn’t dip a toe into darkness. It cannonballs directly into it and then asks why everyone is screaming. And honestly? The darkness is one of the book’s strongest qualities.
The atmosphere immediately establishes a sinister Halloween backdrop where masks, crowds, anonymity, and chaos become part of the horror rather than simple decoration. There’s something particularly effective about taking a night associated with harmless mischief and turning it into camouflage for violence. The characters themselves often feel more dangerous than the monsters surrounding them, especially because they aren’t necessarily fighting their darkness—they’ve made peace with it.
That psychological element worked better for me than the romance. I liked being inside the heads of characters who operate outside ordinary moral boundaries, and the contrast between Halloween revelry and the characters’ darker motivations creates some genuinely unsettling dramatic irony. The book also deserves credit for refusing to soften its morally black characters or clean up the uglier material for reader comfort. Obsession, manipulation, revenge, toxic attachment, violence, and grotesque imagery are allowed to be exactly as ugly as they are. 🩸
The dual POV structure helped with this, particularly through Silas and Sage. Their motivations and emotional wounds aren’t immediately laid completely bare, and the movement between past and present gradually fills in pieces of their history. Enough information was withheld to keep me curious about what shaped them and how they became who they are. And yes, apparently my reward for asking questions was more psychological damage. Wonderful.
Where the book lost some of its impact for me was emotional connection. I understood the characters and their motivations, but understanding them isn’t quite the same as feeling deeply attached. I was curious. I was entertained. I occasionally had that delicious little oh, this is going somewhere BAD anticipation. But I wasn’t emotionally destroyed by it—and for a story this aggressively dark, I wanted it to get its claws into me a little deeper. 🫠
There are compelling themes underneath all the blood and chaos—belonging, alienation, trauma, revenge, identity, obsession, and the transformation from victim to perpetrator. Some of those ideas landed well, while others felt like they needed more room to breathe. At times, certain emotional beats felt less organically developed and more like the story was positioning them where it needed me to feel something. That issue was most noticeable in the romance.
The relationship dynamics are intentionally toxic, obsessive, possessive, and morally questionable, so the messiness itself isn’t the problem. That’s clearly part of the appeal. I believed the obsession. I believed the dysfunction. What I didn’t always believe was the emotional intensity behind it. The chemistry occasionally felt more driven by the tropes than by the characters themselves. And unfortunately, you can give me all the red flags in the world, but eventually I still need to understand why these specific two people are each other’s particular brand of emotional catastrophe. 🚩
The twists also landed somewhere between okay, that worked and well… I saw that coming. There are moments designed to shift the direction of the story, but I didn’t experience the kind of full-body shock I was hoping for. Some felt effective; others felt a little gimmicky. Basically: you almost had me on the floor. You just didn’t quite pull the chair out from underneath me. I could see what the story was trying to accomplish, and sometimes it worked beautifully. Other times, I could see the machinery underneath it. Once that happens, it’s harder to surrender completely to the chaos.
The writing itself is sharp, immersive, and well suited to the material. The dual POVs and movement between past and present help build the psychological picture of Silas and Sage while gradually revealing pieces of their history. The pacing generally keeps moving, particularly once the darker elements start escalating. This is a novella, and it doesn’t spend forever circling its premise before getting to the bloodier territory. The suspense builds, the violence escalates, and the story maintains strong forward momentum.
Where the execution felt uneven was in the sheer amount of material competing for space. Trauma, religious themes, family dysfunction, revenge, obsession, sexuality, violence, horror, psychological manipulation, and extreme physical content are all packed into a relatively short story. Some elements land effectively, while others feel like they could have benefited from more development. For me, that ultimately made the horror/thriller components more cohesive than the romance. The darkness feels deeply integrated into the story’s identity, while the romantic elements occasionally lean more heavily on familiar tropes to generate intensity.
This is absolutely not a soft Halloween horror read. Not even remotely. 🎃🔪 Read the full content warnings before starting. If you want your horror bloody, psychological, sexually charged, morally filthy, and unapologetically transgressive, this is very much playing in your sandbox. If you’re looking for sympathetic characters, conventional morality, gentle romance, or Halloween vibes involving pumpkins and cute little ghosts instead of psychological damage and questionable life choices… respectfully, keep walking. 😂
I have to give Darling Sinners credit for making me feel intrigued, unsettled, uncomfortable, and occasionally downright horrified. The atmosphere works. The horror works. The darkness is committed. The premise is compelling, with enough unanswered questions surrounding Silas and Sage, disturbing characters, strong horror imagery, obsessive dynamics, and enough mystery to keep the curiosity alive. But I wanted more. I wanted the relationships to pull me in harder. I wanted the emotional material to have more room to breathe. I wanted the twists to genuinely knock me sideways instead of making me nod and keep reading. And I wanted the romance to feel more organically intense rather than relying quite so heavily on the tropes surrounding it.
Still, this book knows its audience. It isn’t trying to be safe, comfortable, or morally palatable—and honestly, good for it. The horror has teeth, the darkness is unapologetic, and there are moments where the psychological unease hits exactly where it should. Did it ruin me? No. Did I occasionally stare at the page and think, What the actual hell am I reading? Absolutely. 😂🩸 Because there were moments when I was genuinely invested. There were moments when I was deeply uncomfortable. There were moments when I genuinely thought, “Oh, we’re really doing this?” And then I kept reading. Obviously. Because apparently I have no survival instincts when presented with fictional red flags. 🫠🚩

CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS.
This was a beautifully written dive into some serious trauma, the effects it’s had, with a sense of freedom.
I’ve DEVOURED it.
The impact starts from the literal beginning of the book. Blending all the best parts of horror, emotion and honestly, some really great humour. Although the characters do some awful things, the emotion and sympathy I built towards them at the end was palpable and it was so interesting to see their personalities develop.
I loved the style of writing, the one on one moments between the characters and the reader really hit. The gore elements were really well balanced and Diana’s death was SO SAUCILY EPIC.
The ONLY negative about this is that I’m LEFT NEEDING MORE. I need more Sage in my life.
Perfect read for spooky season or when you just need something short to satisfy that dark itch.
So looking forward to reading more from this author!

I really, REALLY tried with this one.
I made it halfway before finally admitting to myself:
This just isn't working for me.
And the frustrating part is that I actually think this story has a lot of potential.
The ideas are there. The darkness is there. There were definitely things that made me curious and made me want to know more.
My biggest problem was that everything felt like it was being fed to me way too fast.
I barely had time to process one thing before the book was already handing me something else, and eventually my brain was just like:
WAIT. CAN I CHEW FIRST?! 😭
I wanted more time with the characters. More time for the story to breathe. More time for things to develop so that when the darker or crazier moments happened, they could really HIT.
Honestly, I think if this had been a longer book, I might have had a completely different experience.
And if this concept had been stretched into a series?
NOW YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION.
Give me the same ideas, but slow them down. Let me get attached. Let the tension build. Let me sit with these characters and this world before everything starts coming at me.
Because the potential really is there.
Unfortunately, in its current form, I just couldn't connect with it enough to keep going.

This novella was short dark and ever so good. It was only missing a feeling of the siblings actually feeling more than names on a page.
Otherwise rest of it kinda fun gory mess that I love in horror. I wish the reason for the revenge was a little more intense as only the twins seemed to ever understand the true depth but as they felt 2D so did the others and their involvement felt very removed.
Can’t wait to see more work from this author as they have an epic baseline for story telling and horror just human side is hollow ….. for now 😊

Where do I begin? I'd been looking forward to this novella ever since I spotted that it had Carrie, Scream and Flowers in the attic vibes. The list of TW's is quite long (to me that's a plus!) and the story quite dark. I loved it.
I don't want to spoil the story, but I will leave you with this: If you enjoy an erotic horror novella with lots of TW's, religious trauma, gore, bloody spice, murder, revenge and an ending that will likely make you look like this🥹: You need to read this.

Darling Sinners is an intensely dark, disturbing and psychologically consuming story that completely pulled me into the fractured world of Silas and Sage. What affected me most was the bond between these twins and the complicated history that has shaped who they become. Their childhood is deeply unsettling, and seeing the ways fear, abuse, religious trauma and isolation influence their understanding of love, loyalty and right and wrong gives the story an incredibly disturbing emotional foundation. Silas fascinated me because there is such a terrifying contradiction within him: he can be calculating, ruthless and frighteningly detached, yet his obsession with Sage is rooted in a bond that has existed since childhood. Sage is equally compelling because her own transformation is not something that can be understood without looking at everything she has survived and everything she has been taught to believe about herself. I found their alternating perspectives especially effective because they reveal how differently the same experiences can shape two people while keeping the reader trapped inside their increasingly distorted realities. The Halloween setting was an inspired choice too. There is something wonderfully sinister about placing their return to their hometown against a night when everyone is already wearing masks, because the story constantly plays with the idea of what people show the world versus what they hide underneath. I appreciated how the narrative explores the creation of monsters rather than simply presenting them as monsters, particularly through childhood trauma, control, guilt, manipulation and the desperate need for someone to belong to you when you have never truly felt safe. The story is deliberately uncomfortable, and I respected it for never pretending that the darkness is something simple or easy to digest. The writing has a raw, unapologetic intensity that suits the material perfectly, and the escalating tension made me increasingly uneasy while still keeping me completely invested. What stayed with me most was the tragic idea that surviving horror does not automatically mean escaping its influence. Darling Sinners is brutal, unsettling, psychologically heavy and deeply memorable, and I genuinely admired how fearlessly Nova Myers committed to the darkness of the story and to the damaged people living inside it.

The range of emotions I have just gone through is absolutely wild. Yes, I read the warnings but they don't do justice to how heartbreakingly haunting this erotic horror novella is. Nova does nothing to ease you in gently before she jumps into exploring one of the most complex trauma bonds between siblings-that-aren't-siblings that I've ever witnessed.
The revenge element was *chefs kiss*- who hasn't thought about dishing out their own brand of justice? After what the Vale twins have endured in the early years, you're almost cheering them on until Nova throws you a curve ball and quite literally... chooses violence.
Forget what you think you know. I consistently tried and failed to guess what was going to happen next. The ending is a MASTERPIECE- tragic, satisfying but also devastating, with a delightfully twisted sense of justice I didn't know I needed. It was almost closure.
I cannot wait for Nova to traumatise me again.

Darling Sinners was definitely interesting, but DARK, so seriously check the trigger warnings before reading it. I liked learning about Silas and Sage’s childhood because it helped explain how they became the people they are and why their relationship is so complicated. I also really liked Sage’s growth and how she eventually started questioning whether revenge was actually helping them or just keeping them stuck in their past.
My biggest issue was that sometimes it felt like the book was trying a little too hard to shock me. There was so much violence, gore, sex, and other extreme content that eventually it started taking away from the actual story. I would’ve liked more focus on the characters and their development instead.
Overall, 3.5/5 stars. I liked the story and thought Sage’s ending was really fitting, but I wanted a little more depth and a little less shock value.

This is my first Nova Myers book, and it did not disappoint. While there were alot of trigger warnings and notes about incest the book was not as dark as I was expecting, but I also watch shows such as Criminal Minds, etc.
We first meet the FMC and MMC struggling to survive their twisted (abusive) "mother". Eventually, they are out of her life and years later they decide to seek revenge over those that wronged them while they were growing up. How far will they take the revenge before they cannot turn back?.

I read this book in one sitting. It is hard for books that are this short in length to really have a story line, but here the author did amazing with the storyline. In less than 90 pages the author gives us backstories, multiple POVS, and flashbacks. The flashbacks and backstories are so detailed and painful that it makes you have a different understanding for the characters in the present day, yes they are unhinged but I can see why given the abuse they endured for their entire lives. I hope in the future we can see more of sage's life after she gets started over.

This one really packs a punch. You're thrown into an intense scene from the very beginning it will have you sat. And it only gets more intense from there. It's only 88 pages, but the author gives you just enough backstory on the twins to make you care. A fun, quick read perfect for an afternoon.
