I am not one that tends to talk about myself but I will give it a go. I grew up in the late 70's early 80's and for as far back as I can remember I always loved books , horror and everything weird. I have always been a fan of books over movies after all with books its the authors writing and your own imagination that takes you on an adventure with each new story. King, Poe, Lovecraft and so many others have inspired me over the years. So to end this I will just say whether you enjoy my style of work or not thank you for taking the time to at least check a little of it out.

I read the novella Ants: Nature Always Has A Way of Surviving by author C.D. Steele.

You never know what can happen in a small country town. There’s a few local law enforcement officers, a diner with the waitress who knows your order, a scrap yard with the quintessential junk yard dog, farmland. City folk might shout “cow!” when they pass through on their way to someplace else. Oh, and there’s bugs. Always bugs in the country. Here in the town of Harper though…the bugs…or more specifically the ants…well…there’s something a might special about them.

And it ain’t what you think…

I had so much fun with this book. I grew up in the 70s and 80s watching old horror movies full of bugs and Godzilla. “THEM!” from the 50s…iykyk.

This book would be like one of those elevated on steroids with surprises I didn’t see coming and a bit more body horror than I remember on Saturday afternoon antennae TV.

And the characters! Loved them! Literally could be my very own small town country neighbors right now. Written so real I might see them at the Waffle House tomorrow.

With some humor, laugh out loud one liners, gore expected and appropriate for the content matter, and some great twists this felt like classic, nostalgic, conspiracy horror.

‘Twas a fun ride.

Definitely recommend.

I'm a big fan of Chris' works. They're fun, imaginative, freaky (if not a little messed up), and probably the closest to true 80s horror that I've ever read from an Indie author. Ants is no exception.

Ants is a sucker punch of a novella. It's a creature horror that I don't even need to describe. You see the freaky cover and you know immediately what you're getting into. The characters are great and the story is thrilling all the way through. Doris was my favourite, but everything that happened at the Thompson's house was the heart of the story.

If you're into horror like Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Return of the Living Dead, but also Arachniphobia, you'll absolutely love this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, and it definitely kept me interested and I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. I liked the way the story started out in an ordinary small town and slowly turned into something much darker. There was plenty of suspense and some genuinely creepy moments.

It’s a good choice if you like shorter horror books that get right into the story without a lot of unnecessary detail. And after reading it, I’m definitely going to look at ants a little differently!
