This book did not disappoint me in the least! This was so well-written, fast paced, mystery/suspense, with the right touch of romance! I am thrilled to discover this author!
Cameron's lack of closure from her first husband's death still haunts her new life with husband number two, Joshua Thornton and their combined families. Although her new family tries to be understanding, there is definitely problems on "the home front". The problems do not end there!...Newly Weds, Murphy and Jessie, are are repeatedly being "zeroed in on"! Will Murphy lose his position in the elite security group and worse? On top of everything, Jessie's and Murphy's home is bombarded in several ways!
The mystery and suspense continually increase throughout the story. The reader will find it very difficult to put down! The end will leave him/her eager for the next book!
The characters are very well developed and real. The scenes are portrayed so well the reader will be able to easily visualize them. The Book Cover is bright and eye-catching and the Title fits very well.
On a personal level, although there are no explicit scenes, there are sexual situations presented. There are also a few strong language phrases, yet, no profanity. However, I would not recommend this book for YA reading because of these conditions.
I still will give it a Five Stars rating.

The cozy cover of Kill and Run by Lauren Carr is not quite so cozy. Mystery and danger encompass the pages as the search for the serial rapist takes an impossible turn.
Let's meet Lauren's newest couple Lieutenant Murphy Thornton and Jessica Farady in her newest series, The Thorny Rose Mysteries. Jessica is the daughter of multimillionaire Mac Farady, from Lauren's Mac Farady Mystery series. We shall meet more of the characters from that series and I enjoy revisiting old friends.
Murphy and Jessica's lively sexual banter as they learn about each other is in the honeymoon phase, but something tells me it will continue for a long, long time. Lauren makes her characters authentic with similar problems to our own.
I love the NCIS and other similar TV shows. Murphy just happens to be the liaison between the military and civilian staff.
We have carnivores, vegetarians and pescatarians. Do you know what a pescatarian is? I didn't and had to look it up. I love when I learn something new from a novel.
A serial rapist has been active and on the loose for more than 13 years and the past is coming back to bite Murphy. Politics and the military, conspiracies and cover ups, put Murphy and those close to him in danger.
Murphy and Jessica are newly married and they end up with a house full of quirky critters. They are a unique cast of characters! We have Spencer (Candi or Blue), whose name depends on the person calling him, is a Blue Sheltie. Irving is a cat that snubs most people and they are glad for it, he looks like a skunk. Irving has a big heart for a certain young girl that enters his life unexpectedly. Newman, now he is the man. He's a couch potato, I mean REALLY a couch potato. He not only watches TV, he controls the remote. And going for a walk, that's for those other dogs. Let's not forget Monique, a tarantula. EEK!
Izzy becomes a temporary member of the family after her mother is murdered and Murphy promises to find out who did it and protect her in the process. Izzy has a way with the critters, a special connnection. I had immediate empathy for her. She is a strong, open hearted/open minded child/woman.
Lauren has a way with her characters, human and animal alike. They are complex and well developed, fiercely protecting each other as they struggle to find answers before they run out of time. Will they find the answers to the nightmares that keep them awake at night?
I am so pissed off at the injustice of the haves and their own set of rules, the feeling of entitlement they have. They do see evil. They do hear evil. They do speak evil. Where do they draw the line...or do they? It is bad enough there is a monster running loose, but what makes it even more terrible is the people that know about it, overlook it and pass the problem on to the next HIGHER level. The problem does not go away, it only grows bigger.
Kudos Lauren. Kill and Run looks like another mystery series that will be on my reading list for some time to come. Thanks for expanding on the family.

Since this is the second book I have read by Lauren Carr, I was used to having a plethora of characters to get used to. Most of the ones at the beginning were already known ones. So it was easy to follow the story without being bombarded by names and other details.
This is another fine example why I love her books. The storyline was written with precision and an eye to detail. The mystery about the two different cases had me trying to figure out who is the antagonist. It really had me hopping from character to character. At one time, I was sure that the person I was thinking of, was the bad guy. But it turned out to be totally another person. It was like solving a puzzle , playing around with the various situations to know the identity. I did guess the right person before the person was revealed. So I was feeling pretty good at the end of the book.
The setting was good and it was focused on the Military on the professional side as well as family life on the personal side. I loved reading about the various dynamics of Jessica and Murphy's extended families. I felt so bad for Izzy but it all ended well with Josh's decision.
I met quite a bit of characters and they all added to the puzzle with their personalities and their life histories. No one made as big an impression as Izzy for me. I am looking forward to reading more about her and other family members too, especially the pets.
The plot was an intricate one and it kept me on my toes trying to guess and that made it a fast paced action read for me. I read it fast because my attention didn't deviate from the story at any point in action. The tale had my heart pumping and my mind racing with its hair raising action and mind numbing plot twists.
In short, this had made my appetite for Lauren Carr's mysteries worse! I hope the mystery lovers would give this author a try atleast once!

This is my first introduction to author, Lauren Carr. I would agree with other readers that this is a cozy mystery. Not a bad thing to say a book is a cozy mystery. I like these types of books. They are a step down from suspenseful mysteries that I consider to have a bit more detail spent on the murder and the gore and a little stronger language. However this book was right on the edge of being right up there. I would also classify this book as a romantic, cozy mystery. The couple of Murphy and Jessica was fun. They make a good couple. I think that they are both equally matched in the relationship. Their witty banter kept things entertaining.
The pacing of this story was great. I had no problems reading and keeping interested in the characters. There was action up until the ending. Speaking of ending...a good one. I will be checking out more books by this author.

In the previous book that I read by Lauren Carr, I was introduced to Lieutenant Murphy Thornton and again, all I have to say is Yummmmmmmy. I don't know what it is about a man in uniform but it's just sexy. Yes, it's just a book, but in my head and in the writing Murphy is just one beautiful man :).
We were also introduced to Cameron Gates, Murphy's step mother. Cameron's first husband had been killed in a hit and run, and she has never given up trying to find the person responsible.
Murphy is a member of an elite team called the Phantoms. During his day job he has been assigned to a desk job at the Pentagon as a Naval Liaison. When he is called into work one day, Murphy is sent to on a case to see if the military needs to get involved. He is instructed to "not" get involved.
Murphy walks into a house where he finds 5 women murdered. When he realizes that one of the women is in the military and the others had a connection to the military Murphy, needed to take on the case.
I love how Carr writes. She has such great characters, and there is always something happen. There is always some kind of fire fight going on, and the way she connects things is just fantastic.

From the moment I started the book I was immediately drawn in by the characters. Murphy and Jessica had a "insta" love in the last book, but now that they are married they really do seem like the perfect couple.
At the murder scene Murphy comes to find out that one of the women murdered has a child at home who doesn't know that her mom has been murdered. Her name is Izzy. I loved this little girl. Okay she's not "little" but young :). Murphy goes into to automatic "care giver" mode. It's so sweet.
I don't know what to tell you without giving the ending away, but this was a great book to read. It kept me interested the whole time, and it was constantly moving. I had to really pay attention to what was going on because of so many characters, but I personally like that. Keeps me on my toes :).
The military aspect of this novel was absolutely intriguing. Murphy's involvement lets him find a connection between the 5 murdered women and his step mothers first husband. Cameron comes out to investigate the hit and run. Soon Murphy and Cameron find out that there was far more to Cameron's husband death than meets the eye. Not only that, but they are starting to find connections between Officer Gates, and the five murdered women. The story just gets more and more interesting at this point.
This book is so full of mystery, fabulous characters, love, gun fights, etc. I don't think you will be disappointed if you pick this one up.

Five women and counting… Who killed them and who’s next?
Lieutenant Murphy Thornton is assigned the case and at first finds no connection between the five murdered women. As he digs deeper, he finds iffy connections and one huge one that rocks many back on their heels.
After reading Three Days To Forever from The Mac Faraday Series, I was so excited to read this book. The Thorny Rose Mysteries are a companion series. I bumped into many of my favorite characters and this one features another fun couple.
Murphy and his new wife, Jessica, are still adjusting to married life, when all of a sudden their home is over run with guests.
Jessica’s brother, Tristan, needs a place to stay while having his place repaired after it was flooded. He brings his beloved pet, Monique, under heavy objections and much negotiation. For those of you unfamiliar with her, she’s a tarantula about the size of a dinner plate!
Now, that makes three people along with a giant spider, Murphy’s TV watching mixed breed dog Newman, and Jessica’s Shetland sheepdog, Spencer/Candi. Jessica calls her Spencer. Murphy calls her Candi. She answers to Candi.
When a connection is found between one of the murdered women and the cold case murder of State Trooper Nicholas Gates, his widow, Cameron Gates, their step-mother, comes to stay at the Thornton household.
Now, there are four people, a tarantula, and two dogs. Cameron adds to the furry mix with her opinionated Main Coon cat, Irving. She looks like a skunk, all black with a white stripe down her back from her head to the tip of her tail.
One more stray is added to the household. Izzy (Isadora Crenshaw). the young teenage daughter of one of the murdered women is brought to Murhpy’s and Jessica’s home under police protection. She’s wise for her age and quickly becomes a part of the gang. She also has a special affinity, seems to communicate with the herd of animals. They all adore her, even Monique.
Now there are five people, a giant spider, two dogs, and a large cat. How much more can one house hold.
So many connections must and do lead to deadly shootouts, stalkers, conspiracy, and cover ups.
The action is intense, the mysteries keep you engaged and eager to see how they connect, and the characters, both human and furry, keep you laughing and gasping.
The author includes a bio of each of the characters, including the animals, at the beginning of the book. I’d recommend you read them first. It just takes a few minutes and makes it so easy to follow and connect with them throughout the book.
This can easily be read as a stand alone book, but I’m betting you’ll be wanting more about Lauren Carr’s characters and will be grabbing more of her books.

While there were plenty of things I liked about this book, I often felt that I needed two maps – one for the family tree of all the relatives involved in this story and the second for all the different military and state police groups involved. Basically, I could tell that our main characters had to be very careful of stepping on toes no matter what they did.
Now that I have that little criticism out of the way, here’s the good stuff. I really liked how deep this mystery went. There were plenty of people involved and the events span years. Now there’s a young girl, Izzy, in danger. She was a real treat, being the animal lover that she is. I was on the edge of my seat sometimes hoping things would work out ok for her.
There’s a little romance here as there are a few couples involved in solving the crime. Murphy, who is working with the NCIS, and his wife Jessica Faraday are newlyweds and still figuring out some of their longer term goals. Incidentally, Jessica is related to the main Faradays in Carr’s other mystery series – The Mac Faraday Mysteries.
Cameron Gates, a police detective, lost her first husband to a hit and run many years ago. She since has remarried to Joshua Thornton (a JAG lawyer), Murphy’s dad. As that hit and run is revisited, Cameron and Joshua are drawn into this mystery as well. Cameron and Joshua have their own mystery series that I am sorely tempted to check out – Lovers in Crime Mysteries.
With this talented cast, we need equally devious and dedicated criminals to make a good story and Carr doesn’t disappoint there. A string of rapes is soon connected to certain men rising in the military. Now some of those women are dead. There’s a killer on the loose who is also a sexual predator. It was pretty intense towards the end complete with car chases.
I liked that not every thing came out all rosy. The true villains at the hear of it got most of what they deserved but the good guys didn’t get all they asked for. I like how that reflects life sometimes. With yet another generation of this tangled family setting up for a love match, I had the distinct feeling the author was prepping us for another spinoff mystery series. Hooray!

This is one of those books that when you finally get around to listening (or reading) you wonder why on earth it took you so long? Because for me once started I couldn't stop and I loved every minute. This is a well crafted mystery were two unrelated mysteries come together to make one entertaining and action packed mystery. I did get slightly confused at the beginning when we were introduced to too many characters and it seemed to jump around but once the names started to get familiar it soon sorted it's self out and became easy to follow. The serious subject of rape and murder was nicely balanced out by the wonderful characters (and of course there equally funny and charming pets), I like the close knit feel of the family and of course if you have read books from the authors other equally entertaining series then you are familiar with a few other characters already. I liked the twist the story took in the mystery and the way it concluded. I am off to start the next book because even though it didn't really end on a cliff hanger Murphy gets called up for his next assignment and I can't wait to find out what it is.

The mystery in Kill and Run was good. Carr lets you think you know who the bad guy is, right up until you’re wrong. Everything tied together, although some of the coincidences were a little tough to swallow. I don’t know why I thought this was going to be a cozy mystery, because it’s got a harder edge than that, which is not surprising considering Murphy is with NCI and a member of an elite secret force called the Phantoms. The tone of the narrator made it seem more like a thriller and less cozy, too. It does have a bunch of quirky animals, though, which is a cozy trait and the amateur sleuth – Jessica – who puts herself in dangerous positions.
There are a lot of characters in this. From Murphy and Jessica’s families to the military folks, it’s a lot to keep track of. I listened to the audio, I guess print and ebook versions have a cast of characters in the front, but I didn’t have access to that. For the most part, I could keep track of everyone, but it is a large cast. We do get to know the main characters well.
Jessica and Murphy are obviously in love and make a good couple. They’re both smart and their own people. I did find their pet names for each other a bit annoying.
It was a good mystery with lots of action and just enough clues. My main complaint is that it does rely a lot on coincidence to get everyone involved in the case. A solid read.

I know in a prior review that I wrote that I love how this author has created an entire world for her books where characters from different books show up and have parts in other books. I really like that because it means that you still get to see the characters that you have fallen in love with from her other books. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters better, and I can’t wait to get started with the next book in this series. I fell in love with Murphy right from the onset of this book, and when it was over, I was so glad that I already have the second book in the series waiting for me to read it. I find that even though her books can be repetitive I still enjoy them and I always get excited when I see that I can get one to review. If you love mystery books, I know you will love this book and even more than that she has a ton of books out, so you will have something to read for quite awhile.

This is a book full of surprises that keeps your attention as the author plays out the plot giving you a highly entertaining listen. I thought it was really well written that is fast paced filled with action and mystery. I did guess who was pulling the cords a little over half way through but I have been wrong before. I didn’t know the how or why until near the end. The author does a great job at keeping you entertained and guessing. This is a very fast pace thrilling read that goes back for years and ties into Murphy wife’s first husbands killing that everyone thought was an accident. As you first start to listen you think oh what a sweet wonderful cop and listen in horror as the action unfolds. The author skips ahead a few years and the book takes off leaving you with your mouth hung open thinking oh my Lord a time or two. The author gives you a ton of surprise along the way with some shocks as well. You will find monsters and still more monsters controlling everything from women to a career with one person behind it all trying to take the world on to get what they feel they deserve. As the end comes you will be left with shocks and surprises that will leave you with your mouth hung open.
Mr. McAllister I thought did a wonderful job with the character voices he really put emotion into them never leaving you guessing who was talking or what they were feeling. I thought his normal voice where he was just reading didn’t come across as easy or as natural as I thought it should. I did feel all in all he did a wonderful job at keeping me pulled in and entertained. You could really feel the emotions he put into the read. I did not hear any background noises or any places where the audio was higher or lower than any place else on the audio. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. I felt he gave a clear and clean listen that really pulls in the listener. His male voices were just as great as his females you had no trouble knowing who was talking or what they were feeling. I had no trouble picturing what the author wanted me to as he narrated the book. I do look forward to listening to more of his work.

Just wait until you meet Monica and the part she plays. Your heart may change on this little dear..that is all I can say. As the book takes off with 5 women dead and the why, who and what keeps you in surprise you are pulled in and left on the edge as more people’s lives are at stake you are left wondering who will be left a live if any. I loved the plot and the characters. The mystery was outstanding as well as the thrills and holding your breath to see what happens next. As the mystery builds and suspense takes over it was an audio I couldn’t put down. I found things to do around the home so I could listen longer. This is filled with action never a dull minute as the chilling mystery unfold leaving you wanting to get your hands on one person for all he put so many through. I had no trouble visualize the scenes as they came to life for me leaving me at times in shock at how far one person would go and what they would do. The title really fits this story it all started with a kill and run as the author takes you through the paces of one man and his career to get to the top. This book was really thought out giving the reader/listener a highly entertaining listen. I am so looking forward to more work from this author. If you love a little mystery, with lots of action and a little romance this is the thriller for you.

Murph and Jessica are very interesting characters and seem to leap off the page. “Kill And Run” is loaded with twists and turns and red herrings that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. Take the phone off the hook and make yourself a big bowl of popcorn because once you get started you will not want to put this book down until you actually finish. This is a great beginning to an interesting series and I am looking forward to more.

Kill and Run is the first book in the new series A Thorny Rose Mystery but it is a spin-off of two series Lovers in Crime Mysteries and Mac Faraday Mysteries. If your a fan of either one of these series you will recognize a lot of characters.

Kill and Run can stand alone fine by its self. In the front of the book it tells a blurb about the characters you. meet.
There is a lot of murders, but not blood and gory. There is a bunch of animals and I could deal with them except Monique. No to her in my house.
Homicide Detective Cameron Gates gets told that her first husband's death was no accident but a hit. She wants to figure who would want him dead enough to hire a hitman. She goes to Washington D.C. to talk to the assassin. She stays with her step-son Lieutenant Murphy Thornton and Jessica Faraday his wife of four months.
Murphy is a Lieutenant in the Navy working with NCIS and he is in a Black Op group that is secret. His boss does not like him and sends him out on the death of 5 women who were murdered and one of them is in the Navy. He brings the whole case back.
Jessica is Murphy's wife of four months. They met four months ago. Her father is Mac Faraday a retired homicide cop who inherited millions. Jessica also at that time received 10 million dollars.
I guessed at a few of the twists in the book but not all of them. The mysteries all make sense and work. There is a lot of humor in the book too. There are characters that you like and some you are meant to be disgusted with. Others you want to hug and comfort them.
I would read more of this series in the future.

In his first official murder case, Lt. Murphy Thornton, USN, has to uncover the threads that connect five women with nothing in common who are brutally murdered in a townhome outside Washington, D.C. If he can figure the connection out, he can find their killer. His wife, Jessica Faraday, on her way to being a psychologist, and other friends help him solve the case.
The story has ties to another couple of Carr’s series, “Mac Faraday Mysteries” (Mac is Jessica’s dad) and “the Lovers in Crime Mysteries” (Joshua Thornton, who shows up in the Mac Faraday Mysteries and the Crime Lovers Mysteries, and this book, is Murphy’s dad). Both of those series are worth reading. They all tie in nicely together, but can be read independent of each other, and I like that.
This mystery/romance/thriller reminded me of a Russian novel, because of all the characters, but also of “NCIS” because of the military angle. Once I gave up on trying to keep everyone straight, I enjoyed the story a lot more. I’ve seen some reviews faulting the lack of realism, particularly in the military aspects, but I really didn’t care – the story was interesting, and I liked the characters enough that I didn’t care whether the Pentagon has five floors or seven. There were some odd editing errors (such as using “chard” when I think she meant “shards”) which did take me out of the story a little bit, but again, I’m such a fan of the characters and the author, I could forgive them.
I want to read the next installment of the Thorny Rose mysteries to see what happens to Murphy, Jessica, their menagerie of pets and the young orphan girl who plays a central part in this book.

Like its predecessor Three Days to Forever, author Lauren Carr’s Kill and Run sports before the main text an extensive list of dramatis personae, with a few references to and returners from the former book. The prologue occurs thirteen years before the main text, following State Troopers Nicholas “Nick” Gates and Reese Phillips. The main text begins with a lovemaking seen between Nick and Cameron Gates, along with a practice exercise on part of the special operations team known as the Phantoms in Washington, DC, whose Commanding Officer remains secret throughout the novel.
Other important events occurring in the beginning include Murphy Thornton receiving a medal for his naval service during what is initially an inspection, along with a home invasion in Reston, Virginia, and the nomination of General Sebastian Graham to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with many considering him to be a shoe-in for the position. A mystery soon arises, considering the deaths of five women connected to the United States Army, with a woman named Isadora “Izzy” Crenshaw, found initially in a group home, playing her role within the story as well, and having a mysterious history.
The novel has occasional twists and revelations towards the end, which is reasonable and opens room for continuations, although to keep track of the extensive list of characters can at times be trying unless the reader takes notes, although this reviewer would certainly recommend this book to those who typically enjoy thrillers and mysteries, and would very much relish the opportunity to read prior and future books in the franchise.

The first book I read by Lauren Carr was Three Days to Forever which I enjoyed very much. Two of the characters from this book, Murphy Thornton and Jessica Faraday, become newlyweds and form the main characters in Kill and Run. I enjoyed this book even more than the first one I read, probably because Murphy and Jessica were further developed and we get to know them more intimately. We get to see their insecurities and how they deal with their new lives as a married couple.
Although Carr includes her signature heroic crime action scenes with both her human and animal characters--who I must say were a riot!--she involves many family scenes that endear us to the characters. Family loyalty is important to the main characters as is their duty to their work and country.
The plot line is well-executed and although as readers we think we have it all solved there is much more to the puzzle than meets the eye. I liked this. Carr knows how to keep a reader involved. She shows both the good and bad side of the government and its military. She manages to develop a great storyline that's easy to follow with alternately suspenseful and humorous moments. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
I just finished reading Three Days to Forever by Lauren Carr, which I really enjoyed, so I was looking forward to reading Kill and Run. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the characters in this book were also in Three Days to Forever. Murphy Thornton and his new wife, Jessica, were married at the end of it and it is now just 4 months later.
Kill and Run has a Cast of Characters listed at the beginning which is helpful since there are a lot of characters. I only had to refer to it once or twice, but I think it’s a great idea. I wish more authors did that. I love Lauren Carr’s characters! Murphy and Jessica had only known each other for 48 hours before they got married and they still have a lot to learn about each other, but their marriage is solid. And he’s smart enough to listen to advice from his father.
There are a couple murder mysteries to solve and some interesting twists, as well as a lot of action toward the end. It’s also obvious that Lauren Carr is an animal lover. The Thornton and Faraday families have their fair share of quirky pets!
I definitely recommend Kill and Run. If you like mystery, intrigue, and action, it’s one you don’t want to miss.

I usually like mystery books and don't usually read military books, and I am on the fence when it comes to romance. This book has all 3 and well I am actually glad I read it. It was a very good book. It drug me in and kept me involved. It was paced very well, it was quick but not to quick to loose you and it was not slow and boring at all.
There were twists and turns that had me feeling like a detective in spots. When I thought I had things figured out a new twist would jump up and I had to stat all over. I like the down to earth way Lauren Carr makes her characters. She gives them full personalities that are well thought out and in depth. They do not seem like a character but like she took them after a real person. I love how the story does not get stagnant it is constantly moving, and she does not go over board on the romance either.

I loved loved loved this book.
I fell in love with Murphy and tolerated Jessica in Three Days Forever.
I say tolerated Jessica because she came off as a rich snob with her purple Ferrari and fashionable (expensive) clothing. Fortunately, we get to see Jessica for who she really is in Kill and Run and I really like her! She is incredibly smart and makes for a great investigator!
One thing I really love about the Lauren Carr thrillers is that when you think you have it all figured out, you’re proven wrong. It’s not one case. It’s not one victim. It’s not one suspect. It’s not easy to figure out.
I swore I had Kill and Run figured out from the moment I got names and details only to be proven wrong – more than once! Whenever my suspect changed, I was proven wrong. I didn’t figure out the real killer until the same time the characters in the book did which always makes for a great mystery!
Kill and Run is a fast paced action suspense and was very touching. The end put a little tear in my eye. I really loved how it all turned out and I am dying for the next book. Let’s just say, I was not a happy camper when I came to the end!

Kill and Run by Lauren Carr Laura Carr has really done it again to me. The story had me going from the start of who guessed the murderer. Her written catches you and grabs your attention and keeping entertained and wondering. Murphy some how get on to this murder case by being sent down from NCIS.
How Murphy's stepmother Cameron and his wife Jessica get in the middle of it is beyond it. They start to go from one crime scene to another. Murphy is called in and I wonder what's going to happen to them it is all up in the air. Surprises and twists waiting at every turn of the pages.

At first I found myself a bit overwhelmed with the abundance of characters – Murphy and Jessica and their extended families and pets – and subplots that were introduced in the first part of the book. As I got further into the story, the different personalities emerged and my confusion abated. Both of the female protagonists, Jessica and Cameron, are likeable, strong independent thinkers. Even the pets had distinct quirks, with the antics of the four-or-more-legged characters adding a great element of comic relief to the story. The aspects of the story that dealt with Murphy’s investigation into the women’s murder lent the book the feel of a police procedural. At the same time, the Jessica’s efforts to investigate on her own and the closed world of the Officer’s wives’ club reminded me of a cozy mystery. I think the author did a great job of creating an intricate story and tying multiple subplots together. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

I am not usually one to be sucked into a murder mystery novel, let alone one military based, but after the first chapter I couldn’t put it down. Lauren Carr has a way of roping you in and immersing you in the story.
There were so many twists and turns in the plot that just as I thought I had it figured out, a new detail would emerge causing me to rethink my whole theory. This is definitely a book that will have you putting on your detective hats!
The characters were well developed and I especially found myself invested in Izzy, although I did feel as though her emotional turmoil was significantly downplayed and would have been much greater for a child whose mother was murdered. I did really love the family dynamics aspects and how it played a large part in the story line.
If your in the mood for a thrilling mystery, that will keep you guessing, I highly suggest you pick up a copy of Kill & Run. You won't be dissapointed!

Excellent Lauren Carr mystery
Such a well written mystery that I stayed up hours to finish because it was THAT good. I've read many Lauren Carr books and this one ranks high on my best list. Lots of action and the story never gets dull. The book switches between Jessica and Murphy Thornton and Murphy's Dad and step mom, Joshua and Cameron but written where the story flows so well together. The suspense builds throughout and it's such a real page turner. I like how these series aren't so dark and depressing but still contains a great mystery. I wouldn't classify Mrs. Carr's books as cozy but more soft mysterious that lack strong language and likeable characters that aren't completely broken. I like how family is emphasized as something special and shows we shouldn't take those things for granted.

I thought this was a good start to a new mystery series. This was the first book that I have read by this author. The author did a good job of catching your interest from the first page. She kept me guessing throughout the entire book. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the story moving right along and there is even a little romance thrown in for an added bonus. The charcters were well developed and very real. I also like how the author used animals in the story. You can tell she is an animal lover. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more by this author.

I am a big fan of Lauren Carr's books. I've read all of her previous novels. When I saw that she was writing a new series with the same characters I pre_ordered it as soon as it was available.
I am now completely exhausted after reading it.
Lauren Carr never disappoints. This book was more exciting and adrenilin-fuelling than a ride on the world's biggest roller-coaster.
It was lovely to meet the characters, and animals, again. I'd forgotten how "human" Irving the cat was.
I look forward to reading many more Thorny Rose Mysteries.

A continuation with some of the characters from the Mac Faraday series. The story begins with Jessie (Faraday's daughter) and her husband Navy Lt. Murphy Thornton. During the story a number of their family members from the Faraday series become involved in addition to Izzy (teenage daughter of a murder victim) who will no doubt a part of this series. A well written story of murder, politics and human worth. I enjoyed the book and have already downloaded the second of the series. It stands alone but I believe better understood if the Faraday series is read first.

crazy, wild plot that ties the murder of Cameron's first husband to Russian mobsters, multiple rape victims, serial killers, Russian spies....and threatens the lives of the Thornton family. Re-read april, 2032. Still a wild plot.
