Martin attended Mary Jane Donohoe School and Marist High School. He began writing very young, selling monster stories to other neighborhood children for pennies, dramatic readings included. Later he became a comic book fan and collector in high school, and began to write fiction for comic fanzines (amateur fan magazines). Martin's first professional sale was made in 1970 at age 21: The Hero, sold to Galaxy, published in February, 1971 issue. Other sales followed.
In 1970 Martin received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, graduating summa cum laude. He went on to complete a M.S. in Journalism in 1971, also from Northwestern.
As a conscientious objector, Martin did alternative service 1972-1974 with VISTA, attached to Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation. He also directed chess tournaments for the Continental Chess Association from 1973-1976, and was a Journalism instructor at Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa, from 1976-1978. He wrote part-time throughout the 1970s while working as a VISTA Volunteer, chess director, and teacher.
In 1975 he married Gale Burnick. They divorced in 1979, with no children. Martin became a full-time writer in 1979. He was writer-in-residence at Clarke College from 1978-79.
Moving on to Hollywood, Martin signed on as a story editor for Twilight Zone at CBS Television in 1986. In 1987 Martin became an Executive Story Consultant for Beauty and the Beast at CBS. In 1988 he became a Producer for Beauty and the Beast, then in 1989 moved up to Co-Supervising Producer. He was Executive Producer for Doorways, a pilot which he wrote for Columbia Pictures Television, which was filmed during 1992-93.
Martin's present home is Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (he was South-Central Regional Director 1977-1979, and Vice President 1996-1998), and of Writers' Guild of America, West.

Now, for the first time, fans of this blockbuster saga can fill in the blanks and marvel as this meticulously imagined universe comes to life, one sword, sigil, and castle at a time. With dozens of stunning original black-and-white illustrations from world-renowned illustrators Yvonne Gilbert, John Howe, Tomislav Tomic, Adam Stower, and Levi Pinfold, this unique collector’s item expands the reach of an international phenomenon with flying colours.
I know I know, I am late to the colouring book movement. But hey, better late than never right? And what better way to begin my entry into the bright and vivid world of colouring in then with Game of Thrones!
The Official A Game of Thrones colouring book landed on my doorstep only a few days ago, but after flicking through it quickly I hopped in the car and went and bought a decent set of coloured pencils so I could jump right in. The artwork is just... amazing. I can't think of a better word for it. The artists (Howe, Gilbert, Tomic, Stower and Pinfold) have gone above and beyond with their illustrations, ranging from self portraits of characters like Cersei through to depictions of Winterfell and Dragonstone. We also get pictures of House emblems, other cities, loads of creatures (YAY... DRAGONS!), and other key individuals from the books. And each illustration is different in style too (due to there being five different artists collaborating throughout this work), which makes for a new and interesting experience with every page. I also adored the quotes that are sprinkled throughout the book, showing us the passages that inspired the artists and their illustrations.
The potential for this book to become a time sink is high, but that's ok because, as a colouring book, you can drop in and out of it whenever you feel like it. And for the record, I will not be colouring every picture red (although I am tempted... so much blood has been spilled).
All in all this colouring book has been beautifully designed and arranged, and I think it is a must have for any fan of the series or colouring in general. I know a lot of my spare time over the next few weeks will be spent filling in the lines and coming up with wicked colour combinations. So get in on the fun!

I only got this because I'm a fan of the series. To be honest, the designs are just too complicated and not relaxing, which is the reason I like coloring books.

Love this but some of them are a little difficult to colour because they're just so detailed (but beautifully drawn)!

Ъъъъ... смятам за странно да добавяш книга за оцветяване като "прочетена"... Даже се учудвам искрено, че наистина я има.
Някои от предоставените нещица за оцветяване са страшно хубави, други... представях си ги по-иначе. Иначе за книгата важи Великото Момичешко Определение 1 (ВМО1) - сладурска е xD.

Vor kurzen habe ich den Trend "Ausmahlbücher für Erwachsene" für mich entdeckt. Als ich dann erfahren habe, es würde ein Ausmahlbuch zu meiner Lieblings-Buchreihe geben war ich Feuer und Eis, ähm Flamme;)
Die Qualität des Buches ist sehr ansprechend. Die Seiten sind dick genug, so kann man auch mir Filzstiften malen und es drückt nichts durch.Das Cover finde ich auch passend, so kennt man sogleich schon ein Ausmalbild. Der braune Farbton passt perfekt zu denen der Romane.
Auf der rechten Seite befindet sich immer das Ausmalbild und auf der linken ein passendes Zitat aus den Büchern. Zuerst gibt es Wappen, dann einzelne Personen gefolgt von Orten. Ein paar Handlungsszenen und Tieren. Letztendlich gibt es noch Gegenstände wie z.b ein Kettenhemd. So entsteht eine große Vielfalt. Für mich war die Auswahl der Motive aber nicht ideal. So habe ich Daenerys vermisst und auch einige andere. Und fand hingegen einen gedeckten Tisch nicht unbedingt als nötig.Dies war zwar ein schönes Motiv zum Ausmalen, aber im Game of Thrones Zusammenhang nicht so relevant.
Die Bilder an sich würde ich als leicht zum Ausmalen betiteln. Es gibt viele große Flächen, nur wenige sind sehr klein. Die Qualität der Linien / Umrisse schwankt. Manchmal sind diese klar definiert, was mir am besten gefällt, da weiß man genau wo man dran ist. Bei anderen wirkt es mehr wie eine Bleistift Skizze,dies hat mir nicht so gefallen. Aber da hat wohl jeder seine vor lieben.
Fazit:
Für ausmal Einsteiger geeignet, da die Bilder zumeist sehr großflächig und leicht sind.
Die Qualität der Bilder schwankt, die des Materials aber nicht, dieses ist Top.
Geeignet für Filzstifte oder Buntstifte.

Prepárense para observar el libro para colorear más épico de todos los tiempos. El libro oficial de Juego de Tronos para Colorear está lleno de ilustraciones totalmente maravillosas y espléndidas, las cuales son un verdadero reto para el artista que llevamos dentro. Imágenes que cubren toda una página, llena de detalles y con los personajes más representativos de las primeras temporadas. Vienen además acompañadas con parráfos citados del primer libro, que hacen referencia a la imagen en cuestión. Con esto aclaro que no es el libro ilustrado, es decir, no van a encontrar una línea de historia en él.
Para los seguidores de esta saga (e incluso de la serie) este libro es una gran adquisición para seguir llenando su vena fanática. Obviamente recomiendo que lo adquieran si de verdad van a colorearlo, perdería un poco la gracia si no lo hicieran... pero vamos, las ilustraciones son tan maravillosas en sí mismas que ya lo dejo a su consideración.

This is my first coloring book and I was convinced because it is about a series that I absolutely love! I was very happy to be in a universe I love a lot, which motivated me to spend some time coloring. I have to admit it has a lot of pages, which means you can spend a lot of time coloring it, and this is a good thing. I also really like the way it is presented, with the left page quoting a part of the book and the right page showing an illustration inspired by this.
Thanks to this, you can use felt pens without fear of ruining the illustration on the other side of the page. By the way, I colored one page with felt pens and you couldn’t see anything on the other side of the page. This means it has high-quality pages (at least for the French edition).
Regarding the structure on the book, it is first about houses banners. They represent a dozen pages and despite the fact that I only colored two of the for the moment, they are the ones that inspired me the most. The background is mandala style and the banner is drawn in a very original way. They are easy to color and very lovely. After that, it is the characters part and this is where I was most disappointed! Here is the list of characters in this book: Cersei, Sansa, Ser Loras, Lady Melisandre, Varys, Daario Naharis, Cold-hands. Seriously, where are Jon Snow, Daenerys, Ned Stark, Arya, Joffrey, etc.? I have to admit I wasn’t convinced at all by this part. After that, there are lots of illustrations of places, creatures, objects, and more, from the series and there are many diverse and beautiful drawings.
The illustrations are all very beautiful. However, they were made by 5 illustrators and there one or two (I don’t know because you can’t see the names on the pages) that I didn’t like at all. Most of the illustrations are perfect for a coloring book, with thick and clear lines that I enjoy. But some of them look too much like illustrations. They look finished and it feels like there’s nothing left to color. The lines aren’t clear at all and there are too many of them, a bit similar to sketches. There are gradations and shades, and too many things that make them look like illustrations and are not suited for a coloring book. I think I won’t color these pages because they already look pretty like this and they don’t look nice to color. Fortunately, it only reprsents a small part of the pages and I am glad there is a really different style on most of the other illustrations.
Overall, I am very pleased with this book despite the characters being badly chosen and some illustrations really not made for coloring. I enjoyed getting back into this universe and I feel I am going to spend many more times with this book.

I've never written a review about a colouring book before. I found the images extremely detailed. What I really appreciated is that the artists drew their version of the Song of Ice and Fire characters and scenes, and not the HBO Game of Thrones version. Each illustration is combined with a quote from the book for where the illustration came from. Very well done!

This stress reliever is beautiful. Believe me,not all adult coloring books are created equally. The illustrations are lovely.

I bought this book along with another fantasy colouring book as I just love fantasy, even though I’ve never seen or read Game of Thrones. The book is around the same size and thickness as Millie Marotta’s colouring books. Each page is crisp white and is nice and thick so can probably take some pens although I cannot comment as I don’t use pens to colour in this book. Each page of colouring is also single sided, on one side of the page there is a quote from Game of Thrones, or I assume one of the other books in the series, and on the other side of the double page is a relevant picture.
All of the pictures are lovely and so detailed. There’s a few different styles of drawing but all are highly detailed and so perfect for me as I just love colouring in detailed pictures.
The book has sections, the first being pictures of coats or arms, then characters, then castles, creatures and then various scenes. I can’t comment on the individual characters and scenes as I’ve never seen or read Game of Thrones but I do love fantasy games and books in general and this colouring book has just sparked my imagination. 🙂 There are lots of things to colour and because of the different styles of drawing there’s a picture I’m sure everybody would love. Some of the things to colour include weapons, a feast of peacock and dragon eggs!
This is a really excellent book and well worth 5 strawberries. There are so many pages to colour and each one is so highly detailed that even at the full retail price this is well worth the money. Whether you are a fan of the series, read the books or have never even heard of Game of Thrones this such a lovely book to colour in and so many detailed and lovely pictures that anyone who loves colouring and fantasy will love this book! – And I also don’t think it matters if we go wild (and very different from the series) with the colours when colouring in, does it? 😉

Serinin yan kitaplarını karambole toplarken almışım zamanında. Adında da koca koca yazdığı gibi bir boyama kitabı ve benim boyama yapmak ile hiç alakam yok maalesef :) Kitabı amacına uygun kullanmamış olsam da yine de her sayfasına bakındığım için kısaca tanımlayayım; sol sayfalarda bir adet kitapta geçen bir cümle ya da alıntının bulunduğu, sağ sayfalarda da boyanacak çizimlerin bulunduğu bir kitap. Alıntılar sağdaki resmin kitapta geçtiği bir parçadan ve çizimler de epey kaliteli gözüküyor.

Great drawings this one piece spiral bound and well msde. The artist or owner of this book has the ability to use their own imagination with the colors used. It's great. Good buy.

It's a very nice coloring book. Nice scenes and a lot to do. I bought it more for a collector's item than something to actually color in.

Ich habe Game of Throne als Serie gesehen und habe nicht die Bücher gelesen. Daher habe ich einige der Szenen nicht wirklich erkannt und ich bin auch kein Hardcorefan, der sich alle Charaktere merkt. Wiedererkennungswert hatten daher für mich eher wenige Bilder, aber richtigen Fans wird es da sicher anders gehen.
Das Buch ist einfach und zweckmäßig aufgebaut, was mir sehr gut gefiel. Es hat eine schöne Größe was auch die Bilder an sich detailreicher und trotzdem noch gut ausmalbar macht. Natürlich muss man ab einer bestimmten Seitenzahl das Buch extrem aufknicken, um die Bilder wirklich bis zum Rand komplett auszumalen, aber das störte nicht. Jede Doppelseite ist so aufgeteilt, dass auf der linken Seite etwas aus dem Buch steht - eine Szene oder ein Zitat. Da ich die Bücher nicht gelesen habe, weiß ich nicht, ob es vielleicht in Kapitelüberschriften unterteilt war. Hier steht aber unter jeder Beschreibung ein Titel, was mich vermuten lässt, dass dieser sich auf Kapitel bezieht. ("Das Erbe von Winterfell", "Die Herren von Winterfell"...) Meist war es ganz nett etwas zum Bild zu lesen, aber alles war recht kurz und macht eher für Fans der Bücher Sinn. Auf der rechten Seite jeder Doppelseite ist das Bild zum Ausmalen.
Die Bilder sind herrlich abwechslungsreich. Man findet hier tolle Muster und Ornamente, aber auch Tiere, Fantasiewesen, Gebäude, Landschaften, Schiffe und Menschen. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist auch unterschiedlich hoch. Gerade am Anfang findet man viele Wappen mit großflächigen Ornamenten. Das Erleichtert den Einstieg.
Später folgen dann aber ganze Szenen, die mal mehr mal weniger detailreich sind. Einige Bilder sind so detailliert, dass man wohl eher Tage brauchen wird, um sie auszumalen. Größtenteils sind die einzelnen Teile gut abgegrenzt, aber bei einigen muss man sich schon etwas konzentrieren und bei einem einzigen Bild hatte ich arge Schwierigkeiten mir vorzustellen, was hier zum Wasser und was zum Feuer gehört. (das Seefeuer) Das hätte ich mir eine kleine farbige Beispielszeichnung gewünscht. Die hätte eigentlich auch gut noch auf die Textseite gepasst. So ist man ganz auf seine eigene Fantasie angewiesen. Je nachdem wie viel man davon hat, wird einem das Auswählen der Farben und das Setzen von Schattierungen dann mehr oder weniger leicht fallen.
In manchen Feldern sind Schattierungen gesetzt, was ich sehr gut fand. Dadurch wirkt das ganze nicht wie ein schlichtes Ausmalbuch für Kinder und es ergibt ein schönes Endprodukt. Die Anzahl der Bilder finde ich ebenfalls gut gewählt. Da hat man für eine ganze Zeit was von. Da auf der jeweiligen Rückseite einer Zeichnung nur der Text zur nächsten Zeichnungen steht, ist es auch egal welche Art von Stiften man wählt. Selbst wenn man durchscheinende Filzstifte verwendet stören sie nicht das nächste Bild. Ich persönlich male lieber mit Holzbuntstiften, aber ich kenne auch Freunde, die lieber mit Feinlinern malen. Beides geht sehr gut. Da die Seiten leicht angeraut sind, verschmiert auch nichts.

Ich finde dieses Buch absolut gelungen, sowohl für Fans der Serie/Reihe als auch für Leute, die sie gar nicht kennen. Am meisten haben mir die vielen Ornamente Spaß bereitet. Ich kann das Buch sehr empfehlen.

Schon als ich es das erste Mal gesehen habe, war ich sofort Feuer und Flamme für dieses Malbuch :). Ich bin zwar erst seit kurzem unter die Ausmaler gegangen, aber es macht wirklich großen Spaß - und ich habe in der Zwischenzeit auch schon ein bisschen Geld in mehr Farben bzw. Buntstifte gesteckt ... Daher konnte ich auch nicht anders, als dieses Buch beim Bloggerportal anzufordern, als ich es dort endeckt habe. Auf diesem Weg vielen Dank für die prompte Zusendung!

Meine Meinung:
Dieses Malbuch ist wirklich sehr, sehr hochwertig, das kann ich nicht anders sagen! Insgesamt fünf Illustratoren haben mit ihren Motiven dazubeigetragen, dass es sehr viele unterschiedliche Schwarzweißzeichnungen zum Ausmalen gibt. Manche gefallen mir sogar schon im nicht-ausgemalten Zustand, da bin ich stark am Überlegen, ob ich diese Bilder überhaupt kolorieren möchte :D.
Die Motive selbst reichen von den Wappen der Häuser, über einzelne Hauptcharaktere und Bewohner von Martins Welt bis hin zu einzelnen Szenen, die in den Romanen vorkommen. Alle Zeichnungen sind jeweils auf der rechten Seite des Buches, während links kurze Texte bzw. Zitate aus den dazupassenden Romanen abgedruckt sind.
Da ich bereits am Anfang Probleme hatte, mich zu entscheiden, mit welchem Motiv ich anfangen sollte, habe ich am Ende einfach das erste genommen - das Wappen der Starks.
Weil ich mich gerne beim Malen an die Vorlagen halte, so es welche gibt, habe ich mich bewusst dafür entschieden, den Hintergrund des Schilds weiß zu lassen. Das Originalwappen zeigt nämlich einen grauen Schattenwolf auf weißem Grund :).
In der Zwischenzeit habe ich übrigens schon mit dem nächsten Wappen weitergemacht, dem der Baratheons ... Man kann irgendwie ganz schön süchtig werden danach, kommt mir vor :). Trotzdem muss ich mich jetzt wohl oder übel ein wenig einbremsen, da ich auch noch andere Bücher bei mir liegen habe, die gelesen werden wollen.
Einen kleinen Kritikpunkt muss ich bei aller Begeisterung aber doch anbringen: Gerade die Motive der Personen und der Szenen (siehe Fotos oberhalb) reichen bis an den Rand. Dort schön auszumalen, stelle ich mir schon etwas schwierig vor - da kommt man doch mit den Stiften nur gut hin, wenn man das Buch mit aller Gewalt aufdrückt ... Und ob das für den Rücken auf Dauer gut ist, wage ich ehrlich gestanden zu bezweifeln.
Mein Fazit:
Dieses Malbuch ist einfach top! Und ich empfehle es allen, die "Game of Thrones" mögen UND gerne malen :). Das einzige, was ich nicht so gut gelöst finde, ist die Art der Herstellung des Buches. Hier wäre es sinnvoller gewesen, zu einer anderen Bindung zu greifen, damit man an den Rand der Motive besser herankommt.

March 20, 2016Vor allem anderen, dieses Buch ist wirklich total schön und auch wenn ich bis jetzt gerade mal ein Wappen komplett ausgemalt und ein weiteres Bild angefangen habe, kann ich jetzt schon sagen, dass dieses Buch zu meinen Lieblingen gehört.
So viele Details, so viele schöne perfekt aufeinander abgestimmte Bilder und das alles untermalt mit den passenden Textstellen, ist mir selten unter die Augen gekommen. Was sofort auffällt, ist wie detailliert jedes einzelne Bild ist. Am Besten erkennt man es bei den Charakteren der Geschichte, die hier wirklich gut eingefangen wurden, aber nicht zu stark denen der Serie ähneln sondern eher fantastischer und mehr wie die Buchcharaktere wirken. Mit dabei sind u.a. Kahl Drogo, Daario Naharis, Ser Loras, Sansa usw...
Auch die Wappen, für jedes Haus natürlich eins, wurden toll gezeichnet und so musste ich einfach mit den Drachen beginnen, die mich sofort fasziniert haben. Genauso faszinierend sind die vielen Landschaften, Szenenbilder und Gebäude die hier in diesem Malbuch ihren Platz gefunden haben. Mit dabei sind die u.a. Winterfell, Der Rosengarten, Harrenhall, Der eiserne Tron usw...
Jetzt haben wir schon Wappen, Charaktere, Szenen und Bauwerke und dann bekommen wir sogar noch Bilder von der Vielzahl an "Tieren" die bei Game of Thrones ihren Platz haben. Die Wölfe dürfen nicht fehlen, genauso wie die Drachen aber auch Pferde und Raben bekommen ihren Platz.
In diesem Malbuch gibt es so unglaublich viel zu entdecken und auch ich habe noch nicht alles gesehen und gefunden, obwohl ich es bestimmt schon 20 mal durchgeblättert habe. Ich glaube, dass man erst beim Malen erfassen kann, wie umfangreich dieses Werk wirklich ist und ich freue mich schon jetzt auf den Tag an dem ich es komplett fertig gestaltet habe.
Ich gebe diesem Malbuch 5 von 5 verdienten Sternen. Es ist klasse!

Die Rezension bezieht sich auf die deutsche Ausgabe aus dem Penhaligon-Verlag.
Als großer Fan von allem, was mit "Das Lied von Eis und Feuer" zu tun hat, war es für mich natürlich mehr als ein "Muss", mich auch dem Malbuch zu der Reihe zu widmen. Da es mittlerweile ja fast alles im "Game of Thrones"-Style gibt, war klar, dass auch hier irgendwann ein Bilderbuch für Erwachsene folgen musste. Und ich muss sagen, es ist sehr gelungen.
Die einzelnen Bilder sind wirklich schön, detailreich und lassen sich sehr gut ausmalen. Die Seiten sind etwas dicker, so dass auch beim Malen mit Filzstiften nichts auf der anderen Seite durchdringt.
Auf den ersten Seiten sind die verschiedenen Wappen der einzelnen Familien abgebildet. Von Stark über Lennister bis hin zu Targaryen und Tyrell sind alle wichtigen Familien vertreten.
Aber auch Charaktere aus den Büchern sind zum Ausmalen vorhanden. Cersei, Sansa, Ser Laras, Melisandre und noch viele mehr. Hier hat mich ehrlich gesagt gefreut, dass es mal nicht immer die Hauptcharaktere sind, die abgebildet sind, sondern auch Nebenrollen in den Vordergrund gerückt werden.
Aber auch Orte wie Winterfell, das Tal von Arryn, Rosengarten und Harrenhal sind vertreten. Kampfszenen, Hochzeiten, Schifffahrten, Drachen, Wölfe und der Eiserne Thron werden zum Ausmalen angeboten.
Hier ist wirklich für jeden was dabei. Auch ist es eine Möglichkeit, durch das Ausmalen nochmals in die Geschichte von "Das Lied von Eis und Feuer" einzutauchen. Die Entspannung ist dabei natürlich garantiert.
Ich habe zwar erst zwei Bilder ausgemalt, aber ich freue mich jetzt schon, dass das Buch mit seinen 96 Seiten noch lange mein Begleiter sein wird und ich viele Abende nochmals mit meiner Lieblingsgeschichte verbringen darf, in dem ich sie mir in den buntesten Farben ausmale.
