Her name is sweet – Cocoa - and she’s often that. She’s a lover and a licker. She can also be rude and unruly. Self-focused and crude, she attempts to lick her backside and tries to lick my face – often succeeding at both. She thinks she can do things she simply cannot – and she never tires of continuously trying. It’s insane. To make it worse, my dog is blind – stone cold sightless. Yet, she chases other dogs to dominate them and she snarls when a wagged tail would be appropriate. She thinks the world around her is hers, and hers only; she regularly refuses to play well with others. Wag more, bark less? Not always. In short, my dog reminds me of me. I’ve learned a lot about how I blindly treat God from her. And how I should treat others through compassion and vulnerability. It is a painful lesson. My hope is that this devotional on devotion encourages you.
